I really want one of these? Unfortunately, I've been unable to find any retailers that sell them. Does anyone know where I can get one online and roughly how much I can expect to pay for one?

Well do you want a Dollfie in particular, or just a ball jointed doll? Volks makes the Dollfies, their english site is here (http://www.volks.co.jp/en/)

However, if you're up to purchasing from one of the many other doll companies out there, I would suggest joining the Den of Angels Forum (http://denofangels.com/forums/) and looking through the photos of other dolls. My doll is a bjd, but she's from a company in China called Dollzone.

Feel free to PM me if you need anymore help^^

Dear god Ningyo...... telling this person to go to DoA or DoD would have been MUCH more worthwhile then sitting here and doing something as dumb as posting THAT many links. Scare the person out of the damn hobby why don't you.... Even further, you have listed several sites there that are either currently experiencing problems as well as one site that I know for a fact is known for being a scammer. What did you do? Search bjd on google and put up everything that came up? This poster is asking for knowledge and help, you are giving neither.

And for the record Cezza, if you would like some personal based information, you can PM me and I can answer any questions that you might have as well. Don't feel intimidated by the morons list that was posted of links. It will do little other than confuse you since your original post comes off as one of not knowing much about BJDs or the hobby in general.

ningyobaka
07-10-2007, 03:45 PM
actually these links are from a pamplet my freind made. for her bjd panels at con. and if your scammer is bjdollarama. i haven't had any problems ordering from her. though i have heard the complaints.

and hey she wanted places to buy them. so i gave a bunch of links to places were she could buy them. i wouldn't recommend doa to anyone, since i don't like the site. though i do believe it's on the list.

and i would think your rude post would be more likely to scare any other doll enthisits than my post of links.

As someone who's loosely interested in abjds that list of just what amounts to nondescriptive links above is rather hard to navigate. I recognize 90% of the links and can say that you don't really need %80 of them.

You've managed to list just about every medium to major company with any connection to bjds. I personally am put off by it.

As for the point of the thread, your best bet is to check out Den of Angels. It is the Dollfie version of Cosplay.com in size and has a number of people who are more than happy to help get you into the world of asian ball jointed dolls. The othersites you should have some sort of background in buying from internation stores before preparing to put any money into your first doll.

Once again since it doesn't bother YOU it doesn't bother anybody else or the tons of pages of people who got screwed by BJdollarama? Man do you have some frickin issues. And as much as you don't like DoA and don't recommend it since people there like capital letters, punctuation, and actual intelligence, I HIGHLY recommend it to this person.

Just because you are supposedly knowledgeable about something (though that remains to be seen... about anything for that matter...) doesn't mean that somebody who is asking such a generic question needs to just go order a random doll from a long list of companies. Its called research and I would think that anybody in this hobby would encourage others to DO research as opposed to just giving them a list to shop from. However given your track record on these forums I am seriously NOT surprised by your response here or your inability to post something sensible or worthwhile.

Okay guys, let's calm down a bit here. If you need to fight it out, go to private messages, not the boards.

Cezza: for browsing's sake, I reccomend DreamofDoll.com :) They have an English site and not too-too many models of dolls so site navigation is easy ^_^ I love their dolls T_T

Bjdollarama is a very useful and nearly only option for some types of dolls for accesories. which i have and so does my freind who gave me the links.

and actaully using just that list on a pamplet, as in no hot links. physical typing in each url, is how i got my very first doll. and i didn't go to doa before i got my first doll. and i got a pretty good deal, and a wonderful doll. so personally i find the list very helpful. And just cause you only hear the bad stories doesn't mean poeple don't have good transactions with them.

and my personal favorite companies are elfdoll, and dollzone. and dollzone is pretty cheap. dollzone as an american saleman also which is junkyspot.com and they carry some other brands too. and they have cheap shipping. :).

also junkyspot is easy to navigate and has it's own forums that have tons of useful information.

-Kitsu
07-10-2007, 06:58 PM
None the less you will be able to speak with many more people who are into other brands than just the cheap as hell ones, which for the most part I must admit have terrible molds, if you first go to DoA.

I don't even own a bjd yet and know its much easier to deal with and get honest opinions from people who own a larger number of dolls than contacting a specific company.

Also to be honest I would probably have alot more respect for your whole argument if you weren't recyling links from a friends pamphlet on abjds. Just listing the links without giving much information as to what the site is doesn't really help anyone looking for more information on the dolls. It just gives them a raffle of what they're going to end up with.

Plus if you think 500 some is cheap for a decent bjd you must have been dropped on your head as a child. Dream of Children are about 100 less and much better in my opinion.

What's wrong with BJDollarama? I just ordered a pair of eyes but have not seen them because they were sent to my friend who hasn't given them to me yet.

Cezza: There are different types of Dollfies. Atleast, just Volks does. They have a doll that is more like a Barbie. http://www.volks.co.jp/en/

Volks was the first company I knew of and where I got my first doll (which was actually a BJD). It is better to look around at other sites to see what doll you like the most.

www.denofangels.com/forums, in my opinion, is a very good forum to visit. All you have to do is search, because I'm sure someone has already asked a question you want to ask that has already been answered. ^^

As for prices, for the ball jointed dolls, depending on sizes it is around $100 to $1,000.

ningyobaka
07-10-2007, 09:30 PM
when did elfdoll become cheap? seriously? did they have a price drop and i not know about if so please do tell.

and so far the most expensive site i have found, volks, i found to have the worst molds. the only one from them i liked was arashi, but at $800 i cna think of a lot of other things to spend my $800 on. and get a $400 doll i like just as much too. or a $150 one that is cute as a button.

and my friends pamplet i found to be very helpful and useful, so reclying it and coping and pasteing the links, for anyone to just click and see i found to be very helpful. and i didn't bold them but they do have headers that say what's in the links below, like u.s. companies, and clothing patterns. it's meant to be usefully to whoever searches the forums.

and one of the issue with bjdollarama from what i remember from the thread, (hoping someone liek mime will link her.) was someone ordered one doll, (limited or something) and got the wrong one and they wouldn't refund her, and didn't have the right doll to send her in replacement. another i think was they kept changing websites and companies and doa membership/accounts. people sometimes just wouldn't get stuff. or the wrong stuff and nothing would be done. (if i missed something big some one please post it to tell her.)

me and my freind only order wigs for our elfdoll tinies from her because of that, but she's the only place we had found wigs made for those dolls speicificaly.

The problems with Davona (BJDollarama) is that she is repeatedly sold dolls that she didn't have in her posession and people waited MONTHS for them only to be told by the companies when contacted that they had never been ordered by the woman in the first place.

Or how bout how she was physically ill but on the computer ALL THE TIME but couldn't get the orders out that were supposed to be shipped out? How bout the same cat that died so many times I can no longer count that high. Or any of the other number of excuses she pulls when she has blown your money on something that she wasn't supposed to and has nothing to show for it?

Yes for small items the site is alright, but do not, for the love of all that is holy, order a doll through that place. You are more likely to be ripped off than anything.

And by the way, ALL of this information is available on DOA if you would search it.

Celine

Most likely the same way we afford mass quantities of fabric, silly wigs, and other strange items.

Anyway I think the OP here was just looking for some info on where to buy and how much that the dolls cost. We get the point that some dealers are more reliable than others, but I don't know if this is really the right place to continue discussing it.

I afforded my first one by saving up for over a year only to get screwed over repeatedly by needing that money so when taxes came around my husband gave me the cash up front.

The others I have bought I have saved my money from commissions for.

Their customer service is awesome and their prices seem about average; one of my friends ordered K through there and kept on pestering them about when he was coming in, and they politely tolerated her to the very end. A lot of people think that Dollzone has the worst, though I personally own two of the DZs myself as well as a CP and a Volks. The DZ minis are rather scary but being that they are so cheap they seem to be popular.

You know I honestly don't have a company preference. There are so many dolls that I like that I can't say if one has the worst or the best moulds ;_;

Honestly when I started collecting my family about 2 years ago my friend gave me 2 links. DoA, yes its farting rainbows but it is useful for beginners to get info about different dolls and resin matches, shoe and wig size and such that they would not know yet.

And http://www.gigglegeek.dk/bjd.htm

With that link I discovered new dolls at my own pase, kinda just looked around when I wanted, found molds I loved and hated and such..just a good refrence page.

I now have a doll family of 13 and really DoA helped alot when I was a Noob and gigglegeek was great from getting my mind away from the normal company's.

someone recently gave me that link too. it rocks! such sweet pictures. :) and 13 dolls?! :O i wish i had that many. but i think with all my dolls (not just bjd) i've got a good portion beat with my number. over 600 dolls in my house. 500 or more are barbies. but still 13 bjd's would rock. :)

Wow! They've got some good ones on there. I'm thinking now buying the body and different parts separately, and that website is so cheap!

Does anyone own an obitsu doll or know what they're like? I'm a little bit wary of them since they're that cheap.

Mimette
07-14-2007, 07:52 PM
I think you are confusing them for the larger BJDs. Obitsu are vinyl dolls about the size of a Barbie doll. There is the larger 60cm version which is similar to a BJD but it is not strung like normal BJDs as well as it is made out of vinyl, not resin. That means it is lighter, but also prone to staining very easily. The cheaper ones are the small ones. The 60cm ones run around $230 for the body and the standard head if I remember correctly.

I also highly suggest the Junkyspot. Emory is a real pleasure to deal with and I have ordered several things from him including body parts as well as entire dolls. Also since Emory is based in California the shipping is considerably cheaper than from many other companies that are in Korea, China, and Japan.

This is such a...strange...thread. It started out with innocent questions and links and morphed into angry, angry bjd folk bashing, (*sigh*) and now seems to be a general bjd interest thread? heheh....Wow.

In any case...yes-Junkyspot is lovely. I myself have been custominizing/commissioning/selling 1/6 bjd's for a while now, have ordered several times through them and the shipping, prices and customer service have always been top-notch, (seems safe to assume the same can be said when ordering their larger bjd's).

dreamofdoll.com is a decent company but their wait time can be rather long compared to other companies.

As of tonight it has been noted that DoD doesn't accept Paypal anymore though. So you will either need to do a wire transfer or use a credit card through them should you decide to order from them.
