It'd be nice if we could survive on something as cheap as the arm of the fanperson standing next to us, carefully washed, thuroughly cooked, and liberally covered with spices... But we can't, and I think that was my cold talking, not me. In any case, what plans/idea have people come up with to reduce their food expenditure at Anime North? Almost as a rule, food costs can make up a serious portion of one's spending at a con. In our case, the location of AN makes for difficult eating out, and the resturants within the hotel costs an arm and a leg at best.

Here's some of my ideas:
1. Order pizzas
- Pro: reasonably affordable, some variations
- Con: you might end up eating only pizzas for 3 days, ew
2. Instant noodles
- Pro: cheap, easy, when you want it, Japanese-themed
- Con: limited nutritional benefits for 3 energy-demanding days
3. Potluck/everyone bring something that keeps relatively well
- Pro: big variety, affordable, wonderful eating if done correctly
- Con: complicated, storing certain food in one's room can be
tricky, requires the most planning

If anyone has any ideas, please share.

Last year on Friday we ate in that main hotel restaurant. The food was awful and cost was expensive, so yeah, I know what you mean. :(

If someone were to lug a microwave to the con, then you'd have all sorts of instant food as an option. Just make sure you bring some plastic cuttlery that can easily be thrown away.

But pizza is the best bet. Just get different types of pizza for the three days for enough variety. Combine that with granola bars/nutrigrain bars/mini-cereal boxes for breakfast and you should be fine for the weekend.

There's also a Mr. Sub down the street, about a 10-15 minute walk.

Last year, me and my friends walked down to the Tim Horton's. It's about a 10 minute walk and everyone loves Timmy's!

Those are all good ideas.. I <3 instant noodles.

The potluck is a good idea,I was planning something like that for last year but then the issues of alergies and all that junk came up and it was simply too complicated for me to bother handling.

Myself,I'm planning to survive on scammed instant noodles, porridge and rice cakes. The caramel flavored kind :D
And possibly A WHOLE CRAPLOAD OF JUICE BOXES

I've bought a brunch ticket, so my big plan is to smuggle out enough food to last me the entire weekend (or at least saturday and sunday) ^_^
Other than that I'm kind of lucky b/c my brother is comming to the con from home every day, so I'll make sure me rings food w/ him. ^_^

oh no, the food issue! does the economy room coem equiped with a coffee maker? i need hot water for noodles... i can't think of anythign else to bring other than junk food, and i figure the noodle will be a good change to living off potato chips since Dolce and i came home from our trip to the never-ending land of pasta. *shudders* i'll never eat italian again.. XD

If you could get your hands on an electric kettle... that would solve your non-coffee maker problem!

If you are having soup (Mr. Noodles? I don't know)... try getting a spork! (Spoon-Fork!)

There is a good place like a ten minute walk from the con. Its called Arizonas. they have good food and their appetizers are half price from like 1 until 6 on week days and until 9 on the week ends, my friends and i are going to head there. Ive been lots of times and they have good stuff.

JustinCredible

The map says that all of that stuff is in the area of 15min away... if not I guess if I have a free period (;) ) I could run out the street with my pedestrian-skilled feet and get you something!

Its going to be hard... because if I get into Battle Royale and Super Smash Bros Melee tourneys... expecially on friday I will be pressed for time.

Plus I'm going to be video taping various stuff... plus photoshoots for various organizations... Friday is going to be the death of me... If I can make it past friday... then I'll see if I can sit for you more for the weekend!

Its going to be a juggling act :juggler:
