You could try for Anime USA which will take place on November.

http://www.animeusa.org/

Other cons in VA are T-MODE which is next Month

http://www.tmode.org/

Then of course there is Nekocon

http://www.nekocon.com/

When in doubt always check the following websites:

www.fansview.com

www.animecons.com

Hope this helps.

Also, it appears that Anime Mid-Atlantic has moved from Richmond to Arlington (http://forums.cosplay.com/showthread.php?t=120999) (and to the Crystal City Hyatt, current home of Anime USA and onetime home of Katsucon and Otakon, at that) .

I am happy that AMA isn't in Richmond but I am sad also because that was the closest convention to me...

Bring Lots of Money. I repeat Money. M-O-N-E-Y.

Manly for the Dealers Room. This is the place where you can buy all types of Anime Related Merchandise.

Camera. All the better to take pics of Cosplayers and such.

There are plenty of Events to attend at a con such as Panels,Workshops and the Cosplay Masquerade Competition.

Read the Program Book. I repeat Read the Program book. This will tell you when and where all the activities will happen. Correction read the Pocket Program Book.

Mingle with your fellow Anime Fans at the con. That is what the Con is for.

Get a Hotel with friends to lower the coast of the hotel.

Eat Something. A REAL MEAL. Pocky is all fine and dandy but it is not a real meal like a steak or hamburger. A real Dinner,Breakfast and Lunch But not in that order.

Now let's get into the don't.
Don't glomp people unless they say it is ok or at least have a sign saying it's ok.
A glomp, just in case you don't know is a tight hug anime fans give one another. People run up to some one and just hug them.

Don't let the power trippy staff people push you around. Remember you paid to get into the con so if a staff person is being rude go over the staff persons head such as the Con Chair and tell the Con chair about the rude staffer.

Don't forget block the halls this is a fired hazard. If you have to take pics of a cool cosplayer use another spot.
Also if someone tries to make small talk with you PLEASE be polite.
I for one can not stand stuck up anime fans.

That's all I can think of for now. If I can think of anything else then I will let you know.

I find I enjoy not spending money at cons.
Or rather, I enjoy not eating Ramen Noodles for the following month.
