View Full Version : Tokyo International Anime Fair / 東京国際アニメフェア 2008

March 29 & 30 at Tokyo Big Sight! Admission is only 800 yen in advance for one day (or 1000 yen at the door).

I'll be back in Japan on March 5th so I'll be dropping by this for at least a day. I'm not that big into anime anymore, but I think it'd be worth it to attend just to see it!

I think before it was said that cosplaying isn't allowed at this event, but I heard that there were cosplayers last year...? I wonder if somebody could confirm this.

日本人の方へ、ぜひここで返事して下さい。日本語でも英語でも大丈夫です! 遠慮しないで下さ い。 (笑)

I will also be attending it hopefully (Jetstar allowing)

I'll most likely be attending with a friend coming to visit from Canada. I think I pointed out on another thread that cosplay isn't allowed at the event and from what I've read, this seems to be the case. If you look at the FAQ, Q1, found here (http://www.tokyoanime.jp/ja/faq.php) it states that cosplay is prohibited. English page stating the same can be found here (http://www.tokyoanime.jp/en/faq.php).

But, that doesn't necessarily mean that everyone follows the rules! Also, some people might just cosplay in areas adjacent to the fair and not actually at the fair itself.

While I could play the gaijin card and pretend I didn't know any better, I think I'll just go without cosplaying then. :)

Yeah, I considered playing the gaijin card too, but they were kind enough to provide the info in English, so I figure I'll follow the rules. Plus it might be a bit hard to pull off if you're the only one standing around in a costume!

I've been considering bringing an outfit along though. Just in case people do cosplay 'next to' the fair.

I decided to add a rusty Japanese message to the first post because I don't want any Japanese people to feel as we're only making these threads for gaijin attendees!

Wait.... WHAT?
No cosplay..... seriously??

O_O wtf
Ok, I was planning on going to this, but there's no point now, is there....

I still wanna go since it's nearby, and I like seeing events like this even though I'm not as into anime these days. Sometimes there's seiyuu events and the like and that's always a big draw for me, like when I saw three King of Fighters voice actors at TGS. :D

no cosplay.. didn't see any last year.
the only ones in costume last year were the booth babes.

I'm attending this but...

What?! No cosplay? I never knew that. Yea... first anime convention for me... and no cosplay? =(

How sad. Glad I checked up this thread before hand. Well... I could cosplay as Enma Ai in school girl outfit and it won't be that big of a deal. lol~

oh wells~

I'll be attending! It would be cool to meet some of you from cosplay.com.:bigtu:

Anyway PM me and I'll give you my mobile email. I probably can't hang out the whole time because I'll be attending for business:bigcry: , but it'll be cool to have a chat!

02-29-2008, 04:22 PM
I won't have a cell phone while I'm in Japan (couldn't justify the cost last time and probably won't bother this time!), but maybe we'll run into each other anyway. :) A general Cosplay.com meetup time could be arranged, too!

03-02-2008, 10:18 PM
That'd be cool. Keep me posted on that!

03-04-2008, 07:41 AM
Sadly I will be missing this event, because I will be going to Japan the week of April 9-15. =(

03-08-2008, 12:32 AM
Aw C7SOSO~ that sucks.

Ya~ for those who are going... we might run into each other. haha~ That would be really cool. No phones for me there neither. I'm going to Japan from the U.S.... so~ hm~~ I don't think i have any connection. XD

03-08-2008, 09:53 PM
Turns out I might be getting a cell after all, but I have no idea if it'd be before this event. :x

Anyway! It turns out I have a film class field trip to the Ghibli Museum on the 29th. Since I'll be in Tokyo then anyway, I think if there's time I'll try to head out to the Anime Fair later on that day. We'll see how it turns out!

03-20-2008, 02:13 AM
Oh man. How could you survive in Tokyo without a cell phone? How would you be able to find anything or meet up with anyone? I would be so lost without mine.

Anyway, I'll be at the fair on Saturday with my friend. If anyone wants to set a meetup place/time, we'll be there!

I can find things pretty okay. XD; I hang out in Tokyo on my own all the time! I don't usually try to meet anyone in Tokyo since my friends live in Saitama with me and we just meet at the station or on the train. I'm good at being on time when need be, haha. I've only spent a couple of years even in America with a cell phone anyway, so I'm used to life without one! :bigtu:

I just got my tickets for the fair , now I just gotta decide wether I want to go on saturday or sunday?. I am staying in tokyo (my hometown).
hope to see you there!!

03-26-2008, 09:49 PM
I'd check the schedule and see if there's any specific events you wanna see either day. There's a seiyuu event on Sunday that I'm interested in, but since you have to be there early for tickets I'm not sure if it's worth it... I'd have to leave my house at like 8 am just to see if I could get a ticket or not. :(
