I would like to know how many of us there are?

Not cosplaying from RE, but that brings up a good point: what is Costume-Con's Weapons Policy? Do they allow airsoft-guns for those who do plan to cosplay from RE and other anime/video-games that use guns?

Oooh... good question. We haven't written it up yet. We function mostly by the "if your weapon kills it, you eat it" concept, but there may be some specific requirements regarding replica weapons in the San Jose codes. I'll check up on it.

(This is the first Costume-Con in a while that's been large enough where it might become a worry... we're already at 520 members and climbing steadily!)

I've been reminded I left part of it out:
You kill it you eat it, and clean up after it, AND you eat your weapon. While we point and laugh.

We are researching local law enforcement to see if there are specific items we must require.

We also expect everyone to behave responsibly with their props.

Don't brandish your weapons all over the place like a pyschotic movie bad guy.
Don't draw live steel in a crowded corridor.
Don't nock an arrow into a strung bow and draw it randomly.
Display your weapons responsibly on stage and for photographs.
Don't surprise the show directors.
Treat your prop weapons (especially in public) with the respect and care you'd use with a real weapon

Face it, if you are chasing someone through the hotel lobby brandishing your katana/machete/airsoft gun/phaser/bat'leth/chakram, the odds are very good that the cops will show up, and they will cart you away. If you ignore requests from convention staff to knock it off, it may even have been one of us who called them.

Note: this is *not* our official weapons policy. I'm just expressing my general opinion on the matter until we get it written.

Mainly, we (your fellow con-goers) expect people to be responsible with your weapons. If someone screws it up for the rest of us, there will be many people unhappy with the party or parties who forced a more restrictive policy on the rest in the future.

We've set up a page for all of the assorted policies that don't fit elsewhere on the site:
