It's talking about making a Victorian boot with buttons, but you can apply the same methods to lots of kinds of boots. This is especially useful for those who need to see pictures to understand the process.

I don't usually cut a separate vamp unless the toe area can't have a center seam; if you have a very rounded toe it can be difficult to shape non-stretch fabric over it without a center seam.
