View Full Version : Otakon2003 Earlrbirds! What're your Plans?

09-10-2002, 02:19 PM
Anyone as psycho as me and already starting ther costumes for next otakon? I know I am.. (hehe I accidently posted a similar note on some other convention's thread without looking) Anyway I've already started fibreglassing my armour, its my 1st attempt and so far so good. I'm remaking my gold Cervantes(from Soul Calibur) costume... also already starting on my Gungrave costume I dunno if I'll get to finish though the gold armour ones taking alot of my time.

09-10-2002, 02:30 PM
heh...i've *started* my lulu costume. just basicly gathering stuff that i can find in my house and planning...... im gonna die waiting 4 otakon ><;! otakon 2002 was my first con ever and now im really into it!! since i've started so early, i plan on making 1 or 2 more costumes after i finsh my lulu one. ^_^

09-10-2002, 02:52 PM
Oh jeez, I haven't even begun to think. x_x; Honestly I have no friggin' clue.. I know some friends and I are going to do a group cosplay of something that's yet to be decided.. but.. yeah. ^^; Katsucon and Anime Boston come first, so those're my priorities!

09-10-2002, 03:02 PM
One Piece is getting popular (really funny/cool anime) :) I went as Mihawk (pimp looking guy with a HUGE sword) there are plenty of characters to cosplay as

09-10-2002, 03:14 PM
In fact.. I do know all the costumes I'm going to do. ^^;;

Sephiroth (KH)
Kuja (FF9)
Lucifel (Angel Sanc)
and possibly a J-rock. I can't seem to get away with not doing J-rock at a con. ::lol::

::Dies.:: lol. ^_^

09-10-2002, 03:21 PM
J rock girls are so hottt ^_^ oops said that outloud.. any soul calibur or one piece people out there? :)

I would do a Final fantasy costume, but knowing me, itd have to be Jumbo Cactuar or something like that...
(cactuar rules)

09-10-2002, 03:27 PM
Costumes...o.o; ...lotsa costume plans. @_@ Here's the line up so far:

1. Lulu
2. Sumomo
3. Female Ran Fujimiya
4. Helena from DoA2

09-10-2002, 03:46 PM
Soul Calibre people?

Well..maybe Hong YunSung but let's see me get all those other costumes out of the way too...
I have to make them for other people too!

09-10-2002, 05:12 PM
Hm... I've been thinking about it. Heck I've been having dreams about Otakon. I have a set plan already. I'll start making my costume(s) by the end of December. Hopefully, I'll finish by February.

09-10-2002, 06:05 PM
As of now, I don't plan any new costumes after Seifer, due to time (school, work). Might try something from .hack//SIGN, dunno. It's all about time and schedules. It's too early to say.
For now, the tenative lineup is Kaze, Seifer, and KH Seifer.
Heheh, Otakon '02 was my first also. Only was there Saturday though. ^_^

09-10-2002, 06:40 PM
I wanna go to Otakon next year. Does ANYONE know the dates? I have never been to Otakon. Will it be in July? How about the location- also at the Baltimore convention center?

Anyhow, I will definitely wear my Emeraude and Presea costumes. Presea on Friday and Emeraude on Saturday.

09-10-2002, 10:52 PM
>J rock girls are so hottt ^_^

lol. maybe i should keep you updated on the meeting times then? (if -they- update me. x.x they didn't this year. ::pout:: )

09-10-2002, 11:09 PM
Scandia> Yeah, it's in late july. It was the 28-30 this past one, so it's... *checks* July 25 - 27 this year, I expect.
And yes, it will be in the Baltimore Convention Center again... I assume...

09-10-2002, 11:12 PM
Whee, Otakon is way too far away for me to have any definite plans yet... but, I'm pretty sure I'll be bringing Luc (Suikoden 2) to go along with Shadra's Suikoden costume. ^_^ I'm not planning to do anything new for next year's Otakon, since I have some fairly complex stuff planned for Akon and especially AX.

Golgo M.
09-10-2002, 11:12 PM
Too early!

Anyways, if I do get to Otakon next year, and that looks bleak right now, I assume the Naruto anime will be large and in charge by then. My Kakashi costume should be better by then, and perhaps I can get a few of my friends in costume and head out as the gang...

09-10-2002, 11:25 PM
It's never too early for Otakon! Anywho I always start early (usualy February) because I only work on it once or twice every other weekend. Work keeps me busy (well soon, I just got hired by HOME DEPOT :D aww yeah) I started even earlieractualy.. in August about a week or so after Otakon ended

As for Otakon 2003... It may be early August... 2001 was 10-12? I think and 2000 was earlier than that, sometime in August..Don't quote me on that though Im not 100% sure.. But 99.8% sure that it'll be at the Baltimore Convention Centre. Keep checking www.Otakon.com. Hopefully in the coming months they'll announce the dates.

khamryn> **Dies & goes to heaven** LoL Lucky my gf isn't reading this XD

::Rises from the dead:: My heroine :P

09-10-2002, 11:40 PM
>imma do a Kilik!!!!! ^_^

Kilik? Thats awesome Cant wait man Otakon 2001 I went as gold Cervy, and I met up with a group of girls cosplaying as Seung Mina, Xianghua and Sophitia, it was fun.
Then O2k2 I went as pirate Cervy... no soul calibur cosplayers except a Seung Mina..

09-10-2002, 11:44 PM
Hey, I saw your Cervantes costume at Otakon. Soul Calibur is awesome! If it wasn't for the fact that I think I've already got more than enough projects, I would definitely do Xianghua, or maybe even Ivy. ^_^

09-10-2002, 11:48 PM
>If it wasn't for the fact that I think I've already got more than enough projects, I would definitely do Xianghua, or maybe even Ivy. ^_^

LoL Hopefully next year I'll be rid of my beer bellyXD! ::dies and goes to heaven again::
khamryn.. hope you have another phoenix.. LoL

09-10-2002, 11:57 PM
::Uses another PD.:: lol.. course I do..

::eyes Will.:: .. he wants me to do Ivy. I don't wanna. And he's not the first. x.X

09-11-2002, 05:47 AM
My mom did not mind that it will be in Baltimore. However, she DID object to my driving there. I do not want to fly, but if school is in session I will have no choice (and will have to cram two costumes and two pairs of shoes in one bag).

09-11-2002, 06:23 AM
I should have Dir en Grey together for Otakon.. at least, that's the plan, and assuming that my four friends can all make it, which is looking terribly doubtful due to professional conflicts and sudden irrational decisions to move to Texas.

Otherwise, I should have Milly Thompson from Trigun and Dom from Irresponsible Captain Tylor done by then, and maybe something else. Since I don't do stage competitions (I *would*, but I really can't think of skits, ever) I feel less pressure than I might otherwise.

09-11-2002, 09:59 AM
Good thing you're working on your Cervantes, no sewing for me ^_^
As for my plans for Otakon 03' ..... "One Piece" all the way. >> Ace, Smoker, and Lady Alvida (one I did this year).
I dunno if I'm going to do any video game characters this coming otakon.
Oh! I got my wood work started for Ace's hat, finally got that crazy tool working for me to do the faces on his hat.

09-11-2002, 12:05 PM
well if i find the under armour in that colour i want then yes no sewing for you ^_^ but its looking like i wont find the right shade of crimson that i need .. Hi Claudia XD

09-12-2002, 02:34 PM
No, they have not posted dates for Otakon 2003 yet. And I wouldn't neccessarily assume it's July either. 2001 was in August, so who knows when it will be this year. I would guess mid-late July/early August though. I would say the BCC, that's where it's been for the last few years. ^^

I started thinking about costumes for 2003 on my way home from this year's Otakon, hehe. I certainly have many ideas, I just need to decide which ones to make, and then start gathering money to buy supplies. One thing I do know is that my hubby wants to be Blue Tunic Link, which means I'll most likely do something from Ocarina of Time as well.

09-12-2002, 04:30 PM
oooooohhhh I plan to go as Jin-Roh Panzer Corps, but I want one more costume to cosplay as......Van, Carrot, Isamu, Kenshin, and some other characters with dark hair

09-12-2002, 08:54 PM
Anyone know where I can get a cool Iori-looking wig? World of Wigs.com doesnt have anyhting like what Im looking for... and while Im on the subject.. a wig that looks like ...
<-----------------that (its supposed to be white-ish purpley?) In the actual game it looks greyish white...

09-12-2002, 09:20 PM
I don't know my summer plans yet, hopefully I'll have an internship at the National Aquarium in Baltimore. If I can go, the only definite is Jean from Lunar 2: Eternal Blue. I've been dying to cosplay her. Other possibilities:
Athena, Angelic Layer (big group, hopefully)
Karen, X (with a Fuma & Kamui)

09-12-2002, 09:23 PM
Sorry about the double post, but Koumori, I don't go onstage either. If my costumes come out really well, I'll try for the Friday night contest. It's so hard to plan out group projects when no one knows their location / finances for the summer. Ooh! A Captain Tyler cosplay! That show is so underrated. There were a handful of great Tyler costumes at Otakon last year.

*facepalms* And I just realized that not only do I not know whether half of my friends will be there, but except for one of them, they look even less like Dir en Grey than I do. It'll be... interesting.

I'm excited about the Dom costume. I hope I can pull it off.. it was NOT easy figuring out what the hell he's wearing under that giant cloak. There will be shoulder pads. Big ones.

I *wish* I could do a stage competition. But I think the stuff I do is probably better suited to hall costumes anyway - I do good work, but it isn't all that.. flashy. If I were wittier and could come up with a skit or something to make it interesting enough to watch, I would; but sometimes I think there's nothing worse than someone just walking up there, turning around once or twice, and walking off. And that would totally be me. :)

09-12-2002, 11:47 PM
yes, i too am nuts enough too to be planning this far ahead, though my plans are being bogged down by the three cons i have coming up (anime usa, nekocon, and katsucon)

but my hopes for otakon are
Suzuka from Angelic Layer
and Arashi from X
hopefully i'll also have my grey Jibrille outfit done by then

(as much as i love my tactics cosplay its been sucking up a LOT of my time and funds ^^; )

09-12-2002, 11:54 PM
Jibrille, if we both end up doing X & Angelic layer, we'll have to coordinate ^_^

My group is planning an Angels & Deuses cosplay, Icchan too. This is all in the very very early planning stages though!

09-13-2002, 12:12 AM
We have this guy in our group.. that if we put a lab coat on him and glasses and sent him on his way he is just like Icchan incarnate without even trying. ><
oh how boring life would be without him in the group. lol

i would want someone to be my deus if she wasnt FIVE (has visions of people of my age playing a 5 year old ><)
i think i am just going to make a Hatoko Plush when i get my costume started. ^^ itd be so cute.

09-13-2002, 12:33 AM
A wig that looks like Cervantes' hair..? Hmm... if nothing else I can suggest getting a white one and either styling it yourself or getting it done professionally and then taking that temp spray in hair color to it. ^_^ Sukida and I got a pretty cool effect on her Kami wig that way.

09-13-2002, 02:33 AM
khamryn- you so have to make Ivy! Everytime i see her in the game I tell Will to get you to make it! It would look so rad!

09-13-2002, 09:44 AM
Elfy- ::blinkblink.:: ah hah! so you're the one behind it. ~_^ hehe. well.. uhm.. maybe. :p if i figure out how to make good short-hair wigs.. which i need to do anyway. o.O; hehe

09-13-2002, 02:50 PM
>if i figure out how to make good short-hair wigs.. which i need to do anyway. o.O; hehe

Oooh ya know either of her costumes would be SO cool.. ( I like her purple one best XD) I *tried* to convince my girlfriend to go as Ivy but she put the brakes on me with that.. hmmm

She's a stylist though.. I could get her to style my Cervantes wig.. woo hoo

09-13-2002, 05:34 PM
>Oooh ya know either of her costumes would be SO cool.. ( I like her purple one best XD) I *tried* to convince my girlfriend to go as Ivy but she put the brakes on me with that.. hmmm
>She's a stylist though.. I could get her to style my Cervantes wig.. woo hoo

I'm not doing the butt floss one! No ifs ands or buts about it. :p

heh. ^_^

Lupin III
09-15-2002, 10:29 PM
I'm going as Magoichi from Onimusha 2. He is the ladies man!

09-16-2002, 11:18 AM
Well I am gonna just reuse my Inu Yasha Costume with so twists Hehe! You will just have to sit there and ponder it cause I ant tellin!!!

09-16-2002, 04:03 PM
Here's what I got planned tenatively now, in day order.
Fri) Rufus Shinra, I plan to have done by then. I'll probably alter my lab coat from Chem class for it, heh.
Sat) KH Seifer for the group, and normal Seifer
Sun) Unless I improve on Kaze, I'll do Seifer.

I'm gonna try to bring my 13-yo brother, Mark, down with me this year. It'll be his first major con, like '02 was for me ^_^. What I'll make for him: KH Tidus for the group, and maybe a Turk to go with me when as Rufus. Heheh.

Xx Lulu xX
09-16-2002, 07:33 PM
:bouncer: Kahmryn you're friends with Carrie! Arent you! She's in the other side of your AV!!

09-16-2002, 08:46 PM
Yes I'm friends with Carrie. ^_^ hehe.

09-17-2002, 10:12 AM
Do you know Melchior? Because I know he's planning a group of Angelic Layer... I'm thinking about doing Athena for his group ^^
I might make my daughter one of the deus', probably Hatoko, since she will be five anyway. If you do make Athena, good luck!

09-17-2002, 10:26 AM
Do you know Melchior?

No, I don't think so. I'm just talking about my little group of crazy friends, but I'd love to meet up with more Angelic Layer cosplayers there. The hardest part is looking like those giant shoulders.

>I might make my daughter one of the deus', probably Hatoko, since she will be five anyway.

How adorable! I fully plan on making costumes for my kids someday.

09-18-2002, 12:15 PM
I know what you mean about the shoulders ^^
I'm more concerned with the 'helmet' piece right now. I'm trying to figure out how to make it, and what the best material would be.
It is so much fun making costumes for my daughter! She really enjoys it as well, which is good.

09-18-2002, 12:21 PM
>I'm more concerned with the 'helmet' piece right now. I'm trying to figure out how to make it, and what the best material would be.

I'm concerned with that too, hopefully I can find some malleable lightweight plastic material. I'll go scout around hardware and craft shops.

09-19-2002, 11:51 AM
As for me, I'm most likely going as Bask Ohm from Gundam Zeta and I SO want to do a Galacian Costume next year.

If there is a Ball, I would so do a Formal Titans Uniform (That would be fun to see what I come up with)

09-19-2002, 09:14 PM
haha, KuroBara, that's the exact same pic I have for reference ^^
I saw this stuff at JoAnn's, called Friendly Plastic or something, that you can heat up and then shape. But it only seemed to come in 'bookmark' shaped pieces, i.e. too small for our use I think.
I'm thinking paper maiche with liquid fiberglass over it might work, but I'm not sure yet.

09-26-2002, 05:36 PM
Hmm, for Otakon 2003 I plan on being...

-Malik Ishtar (Yu-Gi-Oh)
-Sea (SES)
-Rinoa (final fantasy)

I also have in mind a tekken costume of XiaoYu and a G-Gundam costume, either Allenby or Sai for backups.

09-26-2002, 10:16 PM
Ooh, Malik! Cool.

09-27-2002, 09:39 AM
I forgot if I posted here or not already but my group is doing a full Dark Kingdom from Sailor Moon, anime version (I think) on Saturday. (All because I finally found myself a willing victim... er... a Kunzite.)

Friday, I don't know.

09-29-2002, 01:58 AM
I hope the three girls who went with me last year will accompany me again to Otakon this year..so... WE CAN MAKE THE FOOT STOOL SMELL LIKE BANANAS AGAIN!!! XD

Anyway, some ideas for Otakon (all are pending mind you)

Uriko Nonomura from the Bloody Roar series
Wakaba from Utena
Beatrix from FFIX
Mad Hatter from Angel Sanctuary
Female Ken Hidaka fully complete with skit

*sing* When I run I QUEEEEASE! XD

LOL, the skit would be fun, I'd have to dig my old Yohji coat out fo the closet and fix it up a bit, i.e. make the ribbon stripes look not so "ghetto".

09-30-2002, 06:31 PM
Who is Malik? Card or person? Cause we love Yu-Gi-Oh, and I'm thinking I might do a Dark Magician Girl costume. My hubby wants to be Seto Kaiba, cause he's cool and stuff ^^

10-01-2002, 05:45 PM
My friends and me are planning on doing an FF8 skit. We are trying to get as many FF8 cosplayers as possible( but no doubles) So if you are planning on cosplaying as an FF8 charrie and you are not Irvine,Rinoa,Quistis,Zell and (possibly) Squall, join us..*heavy breathing* it is, your destiny..!

10-01-2002, 06:02 PM
Malik is a baddy, but a really cool one. My boyfriend did Kaiba for Otakon last year, he had a blast. If I ever cosplayed YGO, I'd want to be a card, or Mai ^_^

10-02-2002, 03:02 PM
Wow, you and I think alike sometimes it seems ^^ I said I'd do Mai to go with Brian's Kaiba, but then I found out about the Dark Magician Girl...she's so cool. I hope to do her this year, but I need to find the right material first.
hmm...a baddy, eh? sounds cool...

10-02-2002, 03:08 PM

I think we may be long-lost twins. Lol, I had to do a double take, my boyfriend's name is Brian! The dark magician girl is really cute, I was considering an anthro Blue Eyes White Dragon, for AXNY, but it turned out he couldn't go.

10-02-2002, 03:23 PM
Lol, that is TOO weird... hehe
Aw, too bad about AXNY, but maybe another time?

10-02-2002, 03:26 PM
*nods* Maybe. I have so many costumes planned right now, perhaps for I-Con. Hmm...Isis has a really cool design too, and I may already be fake-tanning for Jean, so that could work. So many costumes, so little cons (and cash!)

10-05-2002, 01:34 PM
:blubber: No Fushigi Yuugi cosplayers yet?? ;_;

Lol...well I plan on going to Otakon with my friends Mits, Lindsay, Jess, Melissa, and Dagny ... along with Melissa's dad who's driving us, and who's totally obsessed with anime, almost as much as we are ^^ :drunk:

I'll be dressing as OVA II Tasuki (http://genrousama.tripod.com/images/special12.jpg), Mits'll be OVA Kouji (http://www.freewebs.com/kouji/OVA13.jpg), and Lindsay will be OVA Nyan-Nyan ... and the rest...well, I'm not sure what they're going as ... they're still undecided ^^

Notice the costume theme between Mits and I :bigtu:

10-05-2002, 05:33 PM
I'm definately planning on attending Otakon again ^_^ It's always so great! Tons of hot guys there, so kudos to all of ya! I'd love to go as Subaru from .Hack//SIGN but I change my mind so many times over the course of the year so I'm not sure who I want to go as for sure.

10-05-2002, 08:20 PM
*waves* If you go as Subaru, you may find me as Tsukasa or Kurim on Friday or Sunday. Saturday is a definate Seifer day u.u;

10-06-2002, 10:41 AM
Yay! Someone else has been added to the Angelic Layer group, Katrina the ice-skating angel ^_^ *happy dance*

10-06-2002, 11:50 AM
LAst year, (my first Kon), two of my friends went as angelic layer people, unfortunately, I've never seen the series, so I can't say who. Ill probably be Toji for one day, Rune Walsh from Phantasy Star IV for one, and PJ berri from Parappa the Rappa for one day... Unless I decide there is another boss from parappa I want to be..

10-08-2002, 10:07 AM
chiri - Prepare to be glomped by many fan girls. XD Including me!

As for my Otakon plans, there's a huge group that's been put together for Kingdom Hearts. :D I'll be there as Belle in her golden gown. That might be the whole time unless I come up with another costume idea. I'm thinking about doing Uriko from Bloody Roar or redoing my Xu costume along with the Belle gown.

10-13-2002, 08:27 PM
Yep! Otakon shall consist of:

Belle (KH)
Wakaba (school uniform)
Tot (pink skirt, frilly white blouse)
Femme Ken Hidaka if the girls are STILL doing it
Might also bring my re-made Selphie SeeD Ballroom uniform just in case

:D Go go lots of costumes!

10-13-2002, 08:43 PM
Haha, I feel so torn, because my costume ideas are always shifting.. I'm so finicky sometimes! However, currently:

- KH Selphie! "Woohoo!", LOL..
- Young Katan
- Hopefully a Nanami (Utena).. not sure what yet, school uniform or dueling.

The last two are subject to change at any time! (But probably not.. ^^)

I'm just revamping my Sesshoumaru costume... it was so much fun last year... ^^ and Melchior and I are going to hang... ((his IY costume kicked so much arse... ^^ not that yours didn't, R... ^^' lol! Long time no chat!)) gar... it's cold here... my pants are done for my costume, though, and that makes me happy. ^^

10-15-2002, 10:57 PM
Friday- Nataku from Houshin Engi
Saturday- Tengaar from Suikoden

The really sad thing is that I already have Otakon 2004's cosplay figured out, too*eyes swirl*

10-15-2002, 11:10 PM
Well I'm not sure on the actually days but I'll be wearing atleast 2 costumes.

One or two of the days I will be Sivil of Macross 7,
One of the days I will be joining the FF8 Group, not sure if I will do Ultimecia, Siren, or Kiros yet.

10-30-2002, 12:37 AM
now my cosplay group needs a wakka... so they turn to me. I kinda resemble him. BUt he looks like such a doofus. sigh.
ohwell, it will give me a chance to talk to the cutie Lulu cosplayers :D
hehe rune on one day, wakka on one, and toji on one! sounds like the fun, ne?

11-02-2002, 11:30 AM
Well, I talked my sister into going with me. My costumes are:

1) Tomoe (Rurouni Kenshin OAV)
2) Cesia (Dragon Knights)
3) (possibly) Rin (Inu-yasha)

And my sister:

1) Belldandy
2) Some Gothic Lolita girl
3) Gourry in drag

11-02-2002, 08:01 PM
Ok...changed my mind, lol! I've decided on Dancing Ranga instead of Athena (Angelic Layer). This is mainly due to my lack of sewing skills, and since I'll be travelling a long distance to get there, I need more packable outfit. Plus, she'll fit with the fake tan I'm getting for Jean, and now Isis (YGO). That's 3, all I'll do!

So, Sailor Andromeda, we definitely need to meet up for photo shoots! Lol, all this before there's even a date for Otakon!

Radical Urd
11-02-2002, 08:31 PM
Well we (meaning my friend Lizzie and I) made plans right after Otakon 02 ended. We were out on the trampoline and had just watched A Girl in Gaea and Lizzie was like Sora's Folktale is such a pretty song maybe I'll do it for Kareoke. And I was like DUDE, that's perfect! Nariya and Eriya! So we decieded to do the cat girls Nariya and Eriya. Our Magic User's Club group had been pushed back from last year, so we're going to do it this year. And on sunday if we can persuade Lizzie will be a Love Hina group. I already bought my witches hat around Halloween and I'm still shoppin around fo' stuff all the time. Its never too early but its can alway be too late

11-03-2002, 06:45 PM
Well I finally decide what I shall be doing:

Friday - Sivil of Macross 7
Saturday - Kiros of FF8
Sunday - Cloud of FF7 (Don Corneo outfit)

11-04-2002, 01:00 PM
KuroBara- You're not doing Athena either?? Apparently I'm not doing her, my hubby said 'no', because of expenses, and he doesn't think I'd be happy with the end result. This frustrates me, because I really want to do her, but I know I don't have the money right now. So maybe I'll get to do more costumes instead or something. We should still meet though!
As of now, I'm planning:
Twinrova, Ocarina of Time (it's either her or someone else)
Kagome- Inu Yasha
Dark Magician Girl- Yu-Gi-Oh!
And I still want to do the Female chemist, from FFTactics, but we'll see.

11-04-2002, 04:29 PM
ohhh a Dark Magician Girl! awesome! Me and my friends are yu-gi-oh freaks....... you've already got some fanboys!

11-07-2002, 06:43 AM
*jumps on thread* I'm gonna work to afford Otakon next year, since I didn't make it this year and thought it was pretty good in '01 when I made it for a day. ^^ (I live in California :P)

So far, I've planned to cosplay Faust VIII from Shaman King for sure. I may also have Phantasy Star IV cosplay, I believe. ^^ Once it gets to Otakon time, I'll have a bunch of other costumes already completed for previous cons that I can bring. :D

11-07-2002, 07:30 AM
Hmmm..yeah I will be part of the Kingdom Hearts Group as Sora I believe!

I have finished off youthful Tokaki's costume (Fushigi Yuugi)
and I shall tackle Kite from .hack
Soul Calibre 2's YungSung
May even get a chance to tackle Wren from Phantasy Star 4

and whatever other peeps would like to see.....i suppose!

11-07-2002, 07:42 AM
*pounces Nietsche* Wrennnnn!!!

Damn. I don't have plans for Demi for quite some time. >_> (my Ota PSIV cosplay is obviously not her :P)

11-07-2002, 11:15 AM
Michi is:

1. Going to Otakon.
2. Doing PS4 with me.

She's doing this because I have already started buying the stuff for the costumes. I know of two other guys who say they are working on Wren and Rune for the con. So... yeah, the excitement of getting all four main characters together is unbelievable. I can probably ask the dude who did Alys a few years back to wear his costume again. If you do it, too, Nietsche, that would really be something. More PS4 cosplay than anyone has ever seen!

11-07-2002, 03:05 PM
me = rune!
i cant wait for otakon, that will be the most rocking picture opportunity of all time...
ohhh i get shivery just thinking about it.

11-07-2002, 04:08 PM
oh ho ho... with my sesshoumaru costume, I'm making a huge dragon arm.... hee hee hee. evilness. ^________^

11-09-2002, 11:46 AM
dont ask so far I count seven but that is from knowing whats happening. reason for that many for the con......I'm going in a con row......deffining.....fanime03 than AX03 than a con I think is in there but if not a short ready and pack break, than this one and so forth with others till I reach animagic back here in cal.......scary.

I have 3 costumes I plant to have by Otakon.

The first one is Sorata from X. My friend is trying hard to find a carpenter to make him a Diven sword prop so he can be Kamui.

My second costume is gonna be Shizuma Kusanagi from the Real Bout High School manga. Though, I dunno if I'm gonna draw a unibrow on my face for that...

And the final, and maybe most difficult costume to make would be Kuwabara from Yu Yu Hakusho. If I find a wig, I'd have to screw with it to get it right. And this is my first time even trying to make costumes.

Guess, I'm gonna need all the help I can get.

11-21-2002, 07:37 AM
I am so going to try and make it to Otakon, if at all possible.

Costumes planned?
Chloe from Noir
Ramsus from Xenogears

Doesn't seem to be any updated information on the site yet...

11-21-2002, 08:27 AM
Yeah, I didn't hear anything about it either -- did they do this last year? Delaying the info, that is.

11-21-2002, 08:31 AM
I saw in another thread that Celine said sometime around New Year's

EDIT: Do you go to JACO or AnimeSushi viewings MakioTwist?

Otakon 2003 has not announced dates yet, but we're very close to doing so. Please stay tuned to our website for an annoucement and locations of hotels!

I will also forward the announcements to the boards here since there's a heavy interest.

Also.. All you cosplayers who are going to Otakon... be sure to stop by the Otakon Photo Suite! *plug plug* Last year we had a wonderful digital rig and we got some sweet photos in... :) You can see a few of the results at ...

(yes, I keep plugging the Photo suite. Sorry, its my personal baby that's growing up..)

Okay enough from me!

11-21-2002, 12:42 PM
Yay! dates gooood...
yeah, my family was going to do the Photosuit, but were turned off by the price. Sorry ^^
We are poor college otaku after all, hehe
*waits for dates*

11-21-2002, 01:38 PM
Oh yes! Dates.... Can't wait to start work on my stuff when I get back from london ^_^

11-21-2002, 01:39 PM
Wow, dates are finally coming. That is good.

11-21-2002, 02:12 PM

Just remember, money is only necessary if you want to buy a print from the photo suite. Getting your photo taken for Otakon archives is free.

(Basically, you're submitting your photo for Otakon to possibly use in publications and such.. We had alot of people come in saying "I wanna be in the program book!" after they saw the photos in the 2002 Program book. : )

11-24-2002, 07:25 PM
Really? I didn't know that. I would have definitely had our pic taken then. It would have been neat to have my family in our Zelda costumes in the Otakon archives. Oh well, I know that now for future reference ^^

11-25-2002, 02:24 AM
Hm... plans? I'm probably going to stay in the Hyatt again with the creator of the webcomics Restaurant and NoSkillz. We had a great group last time, nobody got sick, and everybody got along. Which was pretty good considering 7 of us had never met.

12-05-2002, 07:52 PM
^_^;; a group of friends and I are planning to go back to Otakon next year...we're gonna do FFIX. I can't wait, cons are so much fun!

Again, I'm sooo relieved that Otakon is in August, so it gives me a little rest after AX & SDCC in July. Haven't planned air travel or hotel yet, but costume ideas of what to bring are starting to formulate:

Shinji Ikari (w/ Pen-Pen)
Trowa Barton (normal & boyscout, both w/ Heavy-Arms weapons)
Jann Lee
Kenshiro (tentative)
Lion Rafale (tentative)
Suikoden 3 costume (tentative)
Ryosuke Takahashi (sorry, I can't bring the FC3S with me on the plane)

We're still a loooong way to go, but it's going to be here before we know it. ;) See you all in 8 months.. :skidude2:

12-07-2002, 09:21 PM
Now that there are dates for Otakon 2003, I'm really excited now about the Costumes choices that I want to do. I plan to make this my first Masquerade and my entry is going to be Bask Ohm from Gundam Zeta. So I already know my big costume. Right now, the schedule looks like this.

Friday Morning: Combo from Jet Set Radio
Friday Afternoon: Either Galacian from Skies of Arcadia or something else.

Saturday: Bask Ohm from Gundam Zeta.
Sunday: Studmaster. My original Anime Concept Character.

12-08-2002, 08:35 AM
I was one of those people that were already planning for next year while I was at the con this year. ^^ Though my plans have changed drastically.

I plan on bringing three costumes Setsuna(from Angel Sanctuary), Arashi(X), and I'm starting to really want to do a Jrocker. Probably Toshiya. He's got some cool outfits. I'm not sure what days, because...I'm in an X group that keeps getting smaller --;;. But I think that will be a bit of the time on sunday. I'm also gonna be making alot of shirts to wear on the rare times I'm not cosplaying. ^_^

^_^V Everyone's doing so many costumes, some of them from the same series as I am! I can't wait to see all the costumes...

khamryn- Ah! Your doing Kuja-sama!? n.n;; I must not fangirl if I see you. ^^;; I'm just such a big Kuja fangirl.

Sunde & Schuld
12-10-2002, 11:47 AM
hmmm.....So many costumes....and not enough days!!

I'm doing Myaku Toshiya from Dir En Grey, Tot from Weiss Kreuz [first season assassin outfit & second season normal-wear] and then my second big costume will either be Queen Neherenia [sailormoon] or the Watery Card.

Depends what I get done, because my big big costume is Athena [with wings to scale] from Angelic Layer.

12-10-2002, 11:52 AM
> Sunday: Studmaster. My original Anime Concept Character.

LOL, now I absolutely HAVE to stay around for Sunday!! XD XD

[samiedit] LOL, I'm a moron, I just posted all my KATSU costume plans here.. yeah.. I'm leaving. ^^;; *fwip*

12-10-2002, 08:17 PM
*Points to the Xenogears topic in game costumes awhile back* Should I just pull this out in the open now and stick it on the Otakon thread?

Congrats, you've just been drafted. ;)

Edit- Ok, done. ;)

12-10-2002, 11:07 PM
so want to got this con again. this time feel itgoing to be better ^^

12-14-2002, 08:42 AM
Well, my plan is first to MAKE a plan to get there. Again, I'm only 16, so driving almost 8-9 hours to Baltimore is going to be hard. Considering.. I don't drive, and I don't have any friends that would even want to go to Otakon. I got close last year, at least in my mind, so maybe I'll get close enough to go next year. n_n;;

If by some wonderful miracle I do make it, I'll definately wear my Corrector Yui costume I'm going to start, and then I'll throw together something else. I figure I'll only dress for 2 days, so I can take pictures/shop/ect.

12-15-2002, 10:00 AM
sara*lynn- Where in PA do you live that it takes 8-9 hours? Near Erie or something? That's really too bad that you live that far. I live in PA (for now), but I live in Allentown, which is near Philly.
Good luck getting to Otakon though!

12-15-2002, 10:01 AM
I live about an hour away from Pittsburgh. I double-checked somewhere else, and it said 5 hours. So, I guess it's not as long as 8 hours, but still. I've got some extreme hardcore heavy planning to do, if I want to get there next year. =P

~ Sara Lynn <3

12-15-2002, 10:28 AM
From Pittsburgh it takes about 6 or so hours if you drive quickly and such... however, it took us forever to get to Katsucon (was in Baltimore then) last year due to the crappy weather. However, that shouldn't be a problem for Otakon. You just have to deal with tolls, construction, and annoying cops. ^_^

12-15-2002, 10:56 AM
Yeah, since Otakon is in August next year, the weather should be fine. It's just hard to be so young and want to go to these things, especially when your parent(s) can't leave home for 3 straight days. Last year I was pondering taking a bus, but I think that'd taken even longer.. not to mention buses creep me out for whatever reason, I don't even like my 15 minute school bus ride!

I just either have to find out about some carpool thing going on, or hurry up and get some friends that can drive and want to go. =P Annoyingly difficult.

~ Sara Lynn <3

12-16-2002, 07:27 PM
Gosh I wish I could help you. We're in State College currently, but in May we move back to Allentown, so we can't take you ;_;
Hmm...maybe you could post somewhere asking for Pittsburgh are people that could help. I know there are people out there who live near there and are going!

12-24-2002, 01:56 AM
Ahhh. The Year is almost over, and then the real preparation will begin.

Anybody think Otakon is going to rock even more this year.

12-24-2002, 11:18 AM
lets see, i will have a large group of senshi cosplayers for otakon in 2003^.^ so were most likely either doing , all princess forms of the senshi, or all eternal forms, i will be working on eternal sailor moon myu style, and on tuxedo mask myu style^.^ and most likely ill have other costumes, but my lil creative mind wont start working till after katsu^.^

12-30-2002, 09:43 AM
I have no idea what I will be doing! A few of the Morning Shift peeps have talked me into going so I am saving money right now and working on my cosplays. I am going to finish Carmila for Otakon and pray that I can get it up there without damaging anything. Also, I am reworking Kurumi and it looks like I am have been talked into an FFX-2 style Rikku for the whole thing.

Then again, we shall see what the future holds. It is 8 months away you know!

01-07-2003, 11:05 AM
I wish I knew what to do for Otakon this year... I want to wear a nice flowy costume so I wont be sweating non-stop when I cross the street to got to Buger King (if you've been to otakon, you know what I'm talking about) It also gets pretty hot in the convention center too...so my costume ideas will have to be sleeveless and minimal(with classiness) If that's possible...

edit~ I finally know what I'm going to for Otakon ^ ^
-Bloodberry (SMJ)
-Miss Deep (R.O.D.)

Oh yeah..I've got some work cut out for me

01-11-2003, 04:00 PM
My group always gets down there on the Thursday before Otakon, and since that day falls on my birthday, we're gonna celebrate and be silly!*throws glitter* Whee!

01-11-2003, 06:57 PM
::Waves:: sup homies! Rumi Cannot wait for Otakon 2003 she is very happy...but still is having trouble with the costume...o well...she'll finish it soon!

01-12-2003, 10:46 PM
Man I can't wait for Otakon this year. I'll be cosplaying at my most favorite anime character Gene Starwind (Outlaw Star) with my gf and a few of out friends that Friday, I'm the Leon/Squall in that HUGE Kingdom Hearts group on Saturday, and i'm either gonna be Doc or Nikki from Chrono Cross that Sunday, and be in that group as well...and Studmaster...HAIL ZEON!!!!

01-16-2003, 11:34 AM
I cant wait til Otakon...Its the whole reason im alive. ^_^x I started working on my Hitokiri Battousai costume two days after i got back from Otakon 2002. Im gonna make sure i look exactly like him...i already have the build and the hair. I'm trying to get some of my friends to cosplay with me...but im having trouble with it. I have an Aoshi and a Saito for sure, and i might have a Hiko...but i cant find a Kaoru or a Sano...if anyone knows there gonna be there and and wants to help me out just PM me. ^_^x

01-17-2003, 07:03 AM
Well it's update time:

(possible j.rock costume, still undecided)

01-17-2003, 08:26 PM
Here's what I got so far:

Wallmarket Cloud (FF7)
Kiros (FF8)
Tolone (Xenogears)
random vinyl outfit for rave night

I'm not sure if I shall bring Sivil(Macross 7) with me...I doubt I wanna drag a third wig with me

01-18-2003, 12:17 AM
Hi! I'm back after an extended leave of absence... *coughs* Now that we're in the new year I can begin my REAL countdown. I know I sorta kinda started working on my armour last year about a week or so after Otakon.. but I have not even TOUCHED my project since then...

Been working too much, plus my girlfriend takes from my cosplay time.. but thats another story for another time heh heh... Anyway I dont feel so bad because I have at least been buying materials here and there. Since I work at Home Depot it feels like Im a kid in a Candy store sometimes... Especially since Im big on prop/armour building. Even if Im still a novice.

Well, my plans haven't changed at all.. I'm still going as Cervantes <gold armour> from Soul Calibur (as seen on my icon)

I'm TRYING to grow my hair out so that it looks more authentic than a wig. Only time will tell. I haven't cut my hair and its barely 2 inches long. dammit... If I can at least grow my bangs, I'm considering just putting in temp. extensions in my hair to get the look I need....

Anyone have any experience with this? I want to find out early on if I should jsut go with the crappy wig I have now..

06-15-2003, 05:48 PM
Gonna try to cosplay as:
Oburi (kite)
Lupin(Lupin the 3rd)
Hiei (Yu Yu)

I'm only gonna be there for 2 days so that's gonna be kinda hard...worse comes to worse I'll cosplay as myself and run around buying things from venders....

06-15-2003, 05:56 PM
WHOA! Talk about bringing back threads from Beyond the Grave! (no pun intended) I almost forgot I created this monster...XD that was EONS AGO!!

WELL despite what my alst post says.. I HAVE in fact changed my plans. I am holding off that Cervantes de Leon costume for Otakon 2004.

I am going as Juraquille Mihawk on Friday, as I did last year. Saturday I will be debuting my Beyond the Grave costume... from the Yasuhiro Nightow PS2 game Gungrave. Not sure about Sunday yet.

Still haven't bought my airline tickets yet, and still am unsure if I'm arriving either in the early morning or afternoon on Thursday night. But I will once the airline tickets go down and I find the right price to fly to either BWI or DCA..

Costume-wise, I'm not going to bring too many due to the heat in Baltimore, as well as me mainly wanting to get photos, so I need to be cosplay-comfy when making lap-after-lap back n' forth around the BCC dozens of times each day.. It looks like I'll be bringing:

Shinji Ikari (Evangelion)
Trowa Barton (Gundam Wing Endless Waltz: Marimaya uniform)
Hibiki Takane (Capcom vs. SNK 2)

Might bring one more, but it's uncertain right now. I'll post again after I survive Fanime, AX, and SDCC.. ;)

06-15-2003, 08:21 PM
I hate myself........
Squall Leonheart (FFVIII)
Chaos (Xenosaga)
FFXVB Squall Leonheart (FFXVB)
K' (King of Fighters)

Kyou (Fruits Basket)
Takuro (Glay)
Kaede (Last Blade)

Tsume (Wolf's Rain)
Shingo Yabuki (King of Fighters)

06-15-2003, 10:08 PM
I plan on doing Bahamut from FFX and Roy from SSBM. Hopefully I'll get them both done on time! (I started them in January! Can you say "procrastinator"?)

06-20-2003, 07:53 AM
Arcanine, (body work currently), Tasuki (Fuushigi Yugi) "Completed" except for the Fan, but I think I can pull that off in like a day or Two, And Cloud (Kingdom Hearts), even though I'm not the one wearing it, I have every right to say that I'm still making it.

06-20-2003, 06:43 PM
lol im finished all 8 of the costumes i made for otakon ^.^ all i have to do is make my weapon, but a black tank top, and buy chi ears for my persocom costume... hehe ^.^... i have had plans for otakon since march... and like wee! i cant wait to go.. its my fav con... ill be there thursday too!
