I'm planning a Trucy Wright cosplay, which means that I'll need to be making myself a custom-coloured top hat. I found a frame for it, but I was curious if anyone could give me some direction on how to proceed with it.

you could use felt to cover it or you can get foam sheets that work pretty well, i used them to make a jet black arm. Both of which you can get at any craft store pretty cheap.

This is an excellent resource for hats.

There is a pattern you might find helpful:

My husband is modifying the hat pattern into a Tuxedo Mask hat. We're not using felt as the pattern recommends, but regular fabric and quite a bit of heavyweight fusible interfacing to keep the brim stiff.

I'm cosplaying as Zak Gramarye (a character from the last case) from Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney too and I've been having trouble with the top hat too. I was thinking of making something like a cover made out of fabric for a regular top hat and then just slipping it over. Would that work?
