View Full Version : Hidden Pocket Tutorial

I recently made a tutorial (http://godsavethequeenfashions.com/How_to_Do_Hidden_Pockets.html) that shows how to install a zippered interior pocket in a costume - this should be pretty helpful to at least a few people. Please note that your costume needs to have a lining for this tutorial to be applicable.
This is also a great foundation for adding:
- welted pockets
- decorative zippers

I think that this is a good tutorial for pockets in general - not just hidden ones! The explanation is much clearer than in commercial patterns. If you are making a school blazer (like for OHH) this is a great help! thanks!

Hey, I saw the hidden pocket tutorial, and I was wondering...would that work on all cloaks as well? Or would the cloak have to be lined in order to be able to do this without showing the stitching on the outside?

For an interior pocket to be made using the technique described in the tutorial, it absolutely must be done on a lined garment.
Alternatively, there isn't any reason that you couldn't make a regular pocket that is hidden on one of your cloak seams. Check out this tutorial: http://sigridsewingprojects.blogspot.com/2008/05/how-to-sew-side-pocket-with.html

Now, does that tutorial work if I am ordering the cloak and not sewing it myself? Mind you, my sewing skills are next to nil--I can put a button on my clothes and mend a ripped seam, and that's it...I'm a TOTAL sewing noob.
