View Full Version : Bleach waraji shoes...

So the Bleach faq doesn't have much info on the shoes, and everywhere I look for real waraji shoes they don't have that back piece and some of them are just way too expensive. Just how important are they anyway? I was thinking of buying some big cheap slippers to use as a nice soft base and try to wrap them with yarn since I'm not sure where to find straw (though I have yet to look very hard for them). If I really have to I'll just wear regular sandals of some kinda and threaten anyone who says anything with my fake plastic sword XD

i had same problem, so i spent hours of homework time looking stuff up on the internet XP

it's all the same basic idea.

In the props and tutorials list, StateAlchemist made a pretty nice waraji tutorial. I believe that he will answer your questions.

For the love of cosplay, don't use yarn! Go to a hardware store and get some twine - heck, you can probably even find it cheaper at a dollar store.

It doesn't look too hard to make the shoes, but I have no confidence in my abilities... I looked and there were some on ebay and on cosplaymagic which had the best deal, but are they nice quality? It would take awhile for them to get here so I'm not sure if I'd get them in time for the con but it would save me the trouble of trying to make them myself (and probably taking lots of tries, lol).

Btw the cosplaymagic ones are here:

I think flax might work xD. I'm not sure. I want to try it sometime.

Does flax even grow out of New Zealand? I'm not sure.

But something similar to flax might work, and then be creative with weaving them, I'm not good at weaving flax though, I can make a mat, and that's about it.

Okay, I did some research on waraji a while back when I did my Hitsugaya Toushirou cosplay, and I found this out: the back piece that you are talking about is just the sole of the sandal pulled up in the back.
