I'm surprised there is no thread actually focused on this. xD

I'm sure everyone and their mother has heard of the craze with the Pokemon Gijinka's lately. I know a few cons are getting group gatherings for them as well..
But there are no threads actually focused on the cosplaying, atleast none not relating to a con gathering. ;)

The Pokemon Gijinka craze is basically human styled Pokemon. With their outfits, hair, etc resembling the Pokemon itself.

Yes thank you for posting this thread! I have one gijinka costume but I need ideas, I wanted to used this dress for the AWA formal... http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/aa194/Morgans-Random-Photos/PHOT0152.jpg
Would that fit for Azumarill if I made the ears? Or is the dress too dark? And if so XD what pokemon do you suggest for it, I was thinking Dragonair if not Azumarill
http://faqsmedia.ign.com/faqs/image/ani184.gif
Tis Azumarill, I was thinking the polkadots on the dress are too dark but I don't know

One of these days, when I lose weight, I'm gonna do all the Eevee ones. :) I love Eevee - it's been my favourite Pokemon from the start.

(Also, thank you for the source link. XD I've been looking everywhere for the originals).

I'm probably going to start on Umbreon, because the design is so epically emo I can't resist. XD

I think the dress is a bit too dark for Azumarill. Like you said. Dragonair is darker, so I can see it working for that one. c:

I've put together Meowth's dress, paws, ears, and tail for a friend. I'm about to send Vileplume fabric off to another friend. And I'm making Zubat for myself. (all for the D*Con group)

I think fleece and flannel and other snuggly fabrics are appropriate for a lot of the Pokemon. I used off-white micro plush fleece and light brown fleece for Meowth. Vileplume is kind of flannelish, I'm not exactly what it is since I bought it off a clearance table years ago. And I'm using turquoise and purple fleece for Zubat.

I was planning to do Gijinka for my Pokemon cosplay group, but since I ended up nothing having enough time I became the Diamond/Pearl trainer. I think one of these days I'll try Beedrill.

But the rest of my group did a Gijinka group at Anime LA 2008 (http://www.cosplay.com/gallery/100289/)and it turned out pretty well. I think some of the members are going to improve on their current costumes.

august i will have a charizard,but more...bad@ss,i'm gunna use the arms and legs from my wargreymon for him,maybe some fang caps and what should i use for the torso,just a slightly shredded japanese tunic with a white under shirt?
i'm definitely haveing some epic wings for it.

Blastoise doesnt seem workable for me,aggron,any dragon type,maybe a wolf type might work,but i havent played for long time so theres ALOT of new pokemon to look at and see which one I'd like to make into a gijinka,but where can i find a list of all these new pokemon?! wikipedia stinks,they dont have pics at all

I'm working on a Gijinka Mewtwo for the Dragon*Con parade group Athena started.

Thus far I only have my wig and purple contacts, thought I've decided on a lavender stretch twill for the coat, and will probably carve the tail from foam and cover with fleece or a similarly slightly fuzzy material.

Question: I want to do the Roselia gijinka one, but I am in a dilema.
In the picture:
http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a344/Master_Of_Sarcasm/315.jpg
the eyes are closed. I looked up a picture of roselia and its eyes are black, but I imagined the eyes as green. What do you think? I mean, I should go for accuracy, right? And if I do do the darker eyes, would my natural lightish brown eyes work, or should I get contacts?

Well, i'd say, Roselia's eyes actually are black, when open, but, Roserade, it's evolutions eyes, are a pinkish color... I know that Ciba Vision makes a brand of contacts that are light colored, specifically for dark eyes, and they're usually under 40$ in most places, they come in amethyst which is a purple, which is probably as close to the Roserade color as you'll get, unless, if you'd rather stick to the color of Roselia's eyes, then i'd go as dark brown as opposed to dark green. in which case, don't get contacts if your eyes are already light brown, you'll be fine~

Mr.Darcy- I think your own eyes will work well for it. I know a cosplayer did Roselia and they had the hair over their eyes, so they wouldn't really have to deal with the eye problem I guess?
But I think if you have your eyes slightly opened, or simply closed for pictures, it'll work alright.

I'm making my own Kangaskhan design. :3

I'm thinking of using a lot of Vinyl and figuring out how to make my boots&gloves super bulky.

For the horns, I have a hat with a point in the front and two horns on the sides. I can't really describe it, so far it's made out of tin foil&duct tape, but I'm going to paper mache it later. It looks better than it sounds.. XD;

But I'm not making it too close to human-styled clothes, just not mascot. I'm making an original design. Would that be considered Gijinka? 0.o;

My friends and I are planning to do Pichu, Pikachu, and Raichu for Fanime x3 Then after the little Pikachu generation, get a couple more willing people and do the Eevee Evolutions ^-^ Most of the outfits themselves are fairly simple, but we're currently lost on ears and tails, especially for the Pikachu generation @_@ We're trying to get at least Pikachu and Raichu done by Fanime (since our Pichu can't make it to Fanime :( but Anime Expo), but we procrastinate a lot lol so any ideas? Any and all help is greatly appreciated ^-^

04-20-2008, 12:01 PM
The ears you can make into a hairband. Just make the front side and back side, sew them together, and insert sturdy wire or cardboard into the inside to make them stand up right. Then hot glue them to the base of the band. The tails you can pretty much do the same thing, except sew them onto the backs of your costume.

I think the simplest option is jersey cloth or some other knit that most sweaters are made of, but it would be cool to add some texture with a rougher material. I have a rough knit lying around that looks really interesting, rather like it's been home spun and woven.

Keiosu
04-20-2008, 03:13 PM
Maybe I'll combine two materials. A rougher one for the darker area and a soft one for the belly. I'll see what the fabric store has to offer and judge it off of that. Thanks for the advice.

04-20-2008, 05:00 PM
Well for the ears, we actually prefer to pin it to our hair, since a couple of our friends gave us the idea of pinning it instead of using a hairband. If pinning it doesn't work though, I guess we'll have to resort to using a headband @_@;; What fabric should we use for ears/tail? We don't really want to do something....fuzzy since Pikachu/Raichu's ears don't really look all that fuzzy-like lol .__. We plan on using the same fabric as the dress for the ears/tail, so yea, something comfortable would be nice XD

Try is with ins then first, but I'm not sure if it'll be secure enough depends on how big you make the ears. But go for it if it works!
How about regular cotton? Or perhaps fleece?

Fleece would be the best choice for non-uber fuzzy. And Pikachu/Raichu is a mouse, so they will be fuzzy, just not insanely fluff or anything..

I think the flowy sleeve idea would work well for a fish-touch. Sort of like seakings/ goldeens look.

Gah... I love Cyndaquil and the subsequent evolutions and the designs are so ADORABLE... but I can't bring myself to style those out-there wigs. T_T

It's also tempting to make an Espeon because I have yards upon yards of lavender fabric... I'm going to use to make a mock-up for another dress but I hate wasting fabric- so it's tempting to use the mock-up (with some modifications) to make myself an Espeon dress.

Edit: I know in the gijinka illustration that Espeon is actually a lilac color but I'm sure a pale lavender would pass muster, right?

speaking of fabrics, the store here, had some pink and purple fleece type fabric, was really cute, I think it would have made good material for a few different types of pokemon. the one fabric kind reminded me of a Male Nidoran, like from the anime.

Ok, I'm in the planning stages of a Lucario gijinka cosplay and I was looking for some advice on the costume plans. =) The design isn't set in stone at all, so any recommended changes would be welcome. Here's the image I quickly made of (supposed to be lol) me in the costume:

And here's a ref pic of Lucario:

Kazukii
04-28-2008, 02:39 AM
I don't personally like the hoodie. It looks more like the type of people you see around with panda hoodies walking around cons.
It doesn't look like a Gijinka. Maybe if you used a blue wig to attach the ears to. Or a black with with blue ears it'd look better. The pants are alright, but the shoes are eh..

As for materials, cottons, fleece, faux fur..

Cosplay Cyborg
04-28-2008, 03:44 AM
I'm cheap and can't sew, so I usually buy most of the clothing I use for cosplay at thrift stores (unless I get uber lucky and someone makes something FOR me). Lately I've been on the hunt for some neat Gijinka Squirtle Squad Leader stuff. Unfortunately, there is no reference picture for this--since I thought it up upon seeing a friend's Squirtle Squad sunglasses and have yet to see artwork.

Stuff I have fathered so far:
* Neon Blue Tights and Black Fishnet Tights
* Neon Blue Suspenders
* Black Pleated Miniskirt
* Smexy Leather Knee-High Boots~!
* Squirtle Squad Minion

Stuff I hope to add:
* Neon Blue "Misa-style" Wig
* Leathery Material to use for "Converting" a Mini Backpack into a Shell?
* Custom T-Shirt with "ZENIGAME"% on the Front?
* Black Fingerless Gloves or Fishnet/Mesh Arm Warmers?
* "Plushie Explosives"@
* The Tail

Stuff I'm getting help with:
* Squirtle Squad Sunglasses
* Squirtle Squad Flag +

+ As for the Flag, I recall there was an episode in which Satoshi/Ash's Squirtle and the Squirtle Squad were in a fire fighting competition and had a big flag of some sort. I may look up pictures of it or just make my own.

@ The Squirtle Squad appears to carry around a lot of explosives. They look like Bobombs from Mario, so I might buy a few plushies and throw 'em at people like BOOM! ^_^

% Zenigame is Squirtle's name in Japanese. I think it sounds cooler so I'm using that on the shirt.

~*~

So there ya have it. My idea for the Squirtle Squad Leader, Gijinka-fied. Suggestions are welcomed and even encouraged!

On a side note, I thought it would be cooler if the leader was a girl. Something about that cracks me up. All these little Squirtle being bossed around by a girl Squirtle. XD That's why I made her kind of punkish and girly.

I was never interested in attempting to make a fur suit and I doubt I would be able to design a nice Pokémon Princess costume, let alone make one, so I find myself very much drawn towards the Gijinka designs because they are much more my speed. I'm not bent on cosplaying as one any time soon, but I have always wanted to try designing one, and I may or may not consider it after I get all of the human trainer costumes I want to do out of the way.

Though, Zaphk (http://zaphk.deviantart.com/gallery/#Pokemon) does have some really tempting designs @_@

I just found THE MOST PERFECT fabric for a Munchlax Gijinka. It's dark green and kinda fuzzy like a blanket but not quite fleece. My friend suggested doing Munchlax instead of Squirtle, since Munchy's easier, so I'll have to check on the pictures to see how I'd make the outfit.

Good luck with the Ninetales [ It's not tails, I used to mistake that as well. XD ] I've been waiting to see someone do that one. It'll be nicer spiffed up a bit though, a cream dress and long ass wig is fairly boring.

I'm doing a design based on a Chinese Hanfu (It's not gonna be dead traditional but slightly based off of it) So I hope to drift from the plain dress and long wig ^__^

I've seen a Ninetales gijinka cosplay before; I tried looking for the picture again but it just wasn't happening. If I ever stumble upon it again I'll be sure to post a link.

I'm going to make myself an Ivysaur costume over the summer. I've already bought the fabric; it isn't quite the color I wanted but I think it'll do. I had found this perfect dull satin, but they didn't have enough for what I wanted to make.

I have a question. I'm doing Natu, as you know, and I was wondering whether I should close the sleeves all the way (which I think would look better) or leave them open and retain the use of my hands? What do you think?

(Plus, should I put something like card material in the sleeves to make them hold that shape, or just really heavy interfacing? I used really heavy interfacing to make my Saint Tail's coat tails keep their shape, and it worked pretty well, plus it allows a bit more freedom of movement then a heavier card would...)

moonflower.
06-19-2008, 09:45 PM
I'm not sure of the design, but maybe just leave holes big enough to get your hands out if you need them, and close the rest of the way up... It could be a compromise of both designs.

06-20-2008, 11:13 AM
Oops. Sorry, forgot the picture.

06-20-2008, 07:28 PM
For Natu's sleeves you could just interface them stiff enough and then leave an opening for your hand near the end, it'll keep the shape, so when your hands aren't out, they can hide in the sleeves like shown.

KawaiiKawai
06-20-2008, 07:59 PM
I'm doing a j-rock Jigglypuff gijinka, but I'm having a little trouble deciding what style of pink wig to wear. It'll have the characteristic curl over the forehead, but should the rest of the wig be curly, or would that be too much cute for a j-rock?

Kazukii
06-20-2008, 08:20 PM
You should look on deviant art for other variations of Jigglypuff Gijinkas.
You may end up not even doing a proper gijinka by the sound of it.

moonflower.
06-21-2008, 12:16 AM
Or, For Natu, instead of making it the sleeves, make it just lay over the arm, and attach it to your arms underneath.. Then use stiff interfacing. It should give the same effect when the arms are down, but gives full use of the arms and hands otherwise...

the only thing that goes against most of the pics is im goin to be wearing hats rather than ears coming from my hair. my hair will be in dreads then and obviously it wouldnt look right =/ i might still order a wig but the bulk from the dreads underneath would be noticeable without a hat ;____; it's gonna limit a lot of costumes, but eh ill have dreads who cares? xD

Thanks! I matched the fabric as best as I could to the picture, but I still feel like its too bright. Its a nice knit material though, and I don't think its too bright... I hope. Every picture of Raichu I've seen is a different color... Some are really dark orange-brown, and others are almost yellowish..

http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y131/wicked0witch/CIMG7992.jpg

I hope that color works out. I get paranoid over these things. Lol. o.O

Edit: Oh, I remember why I came in here. For those people who carried their plushie-versions with them, how many people made them themselves? I want to carry Raichu with me, but every version I can find is only like 5 or 6 inches.. I'm getting one of those to be a backup, but I want to make a life-size version... To those that made theirs... was it easy? What kind of materials did you use? Thanks in advance. ^.^

Wow everything looks really amazing so far...
I'm not really planning on meeting up with a group other than two or three people but is there anything going on with the Pokemon ginjinkas attending Otakon? I'd really love to know..

Oh and it seems as though no one has tried doing Sentret recently, I'm going to probably switch the two colors of the hair since the deeper brown is somewhat my base hair color. Instead of trying to tie loose ribbon around it I'll probably just tie a fairly tight brown bow around a thick hair tie to hold it together and then streak my hair so its got those three rings going downward :]

I was wondering since I'm the a huge newbie to making my own clothing or at least trying to do so, what type of material would be most breathable and look/feel best to go with the turtleneck that the character's wearing in the design? I figured I'd get some deep brown leggings and then cut them to shorts, get some of the same fabric in a lighter brown and then sew it together for them.
Also, for the ears, would it be best if I were to put in a specific type of lightweight plastic called pellon into the ear pockets and then sew them/attach them on to a cloth headband? Or would the plastic be too heavy and cause the headband to slouch uncomfortably too much? (Sorry for the huge post, I just want to get all the questions out in one go and see if someone can answer them to the best of their abilities.)

Ah. Sentret would be really cute if done justice. X]
I'm sure there are people going to Otakon as Gijinka's, you could ask on the Otakon convention forum. =3
The rings are meant to be going around though like the Pokemon has..
For the shirt, you could either use a nice soft cotton, with all the different types, they're bound to have the color. But to get it to have the same look, you'll probably want to use a fleece or something similar. But, it'll be hot. -shrug- I've seen others do the nice plush outfits with the hotter material, their outfits pay off since they look how they're supposed to.
You could have the ears sticking straight up by just using a good interfacing.

Sakurai_Atsushi
07-14-2008, 05:16 PM
I got a nice pink fleece, although, I bought it with the intent to make a Gijinka costume, I have no idea which one for it. I was thinking Clefairy, or something. it's a really light pink, so something like male nidoran, or even Ditto is too dark pink. =/

ArtisticGeek
07-14-2008, 05:44 PM
Ah, thanks, I'll be going fabric shopping sooner or later this week so I'll hopefully pick up some nice soft material.

Would it be better to get fuzzy material for the ears? I'm thinking of doing a furry design on the outside and on the inner parts of the ear I'll have a soft fleece sort of thing.

Has anyone completed their costumes or took some new progress shots? I saw some on the past pages and wanted to know if there were updated versions or something.

I got a nice pink fleece, although, I bought it with the intent to make a Gijinka costume, I have no idea which one for it. I was thinking Clefairy, or something. it's a really light pink, so something like male nidoran, or even Ditto is too dark pink. =/
Well there is also Jigglypuff and it's evolutions, along with Lickitung, Corsola, Skitty, Cherrim.

I really love the Mewtwo and Lickitung... Does anyone know where I might find boots like those in the Mewtwo design? I've been hunting for a pair like them for some time. ;_;

So I got about a quarter of the dress done for Raichu, and I started making the tail. I have the base wiring all done. Now I Just need to make the layer of fabric to go over all the duct-tape and wires. It actually semi stands up on its own too, which is really exciting, as long as it has a point that is hooked into my dress.

I'm also going to slightly (slightly! I promise) modify the dress for Raichu.. I'm going to add a small sash around the middle in a lighter color, like raichu's stomach, or in the same color as the rest of the dress, because I'm not a tiny little drawing, and a dress like that makes me look pregnant. It will also help to keep the tail up.

Progress pictures soon!

is anyone thinking of trying deoxys, rayquaza, and regigigas?
i think those would be really fun, i want to make those 3 once i get a bit better at sewing.
i think the only things that would stop me would be deoxy's boots and rayquazas head... thingy.

i also like ponyta and rapidash, along with poochyena and mightyena. christ i think i need more cons in the area just so i can wear all the costumes i wanna make =D

I think fleece for both the inside and out would work find. Or faux fur for the out, fleece for the in. -shrug-

I have my completed one up. Luxray. P:

@Kazukii : I saw your pictures after searching this entire thread and then realizing you meant in your picture gallery xD;
It looks adorable @w@
The only thing I would've done to make it look better/cuter would be fit the blue jacket/shirt/top so it hugged you a bit better >>; you seem to have a slim build so I don't think it would've been a problem. The top poofs out a bit which bother me unless you specifically wanted to go for that effect ^^;
Otherwise thats really great and I'm envious ; A ; I'm afraid for my first convention that I'm going to make myself look like an utter fool and my cosplay will look horrible. Not to mention I have less than two weeks to work on it since I'll be away from home for the entire week before the con and don't want to chance bringing the costume with me and having it get messed up while in the suitcase or something.

No prob. =3

Yah. My gallery, my bad. XD
Ah ya, the jacket. I lurve my jacket. Lol. The effect was to make it look more...er..guy-ish. Since the Luxray IS a guy and all. So I needed it a bit baggier so I didn't look so girly. xD

i think the simplicity is more to her character though. simple yet gorgeous and powerful (she's my favorite pokemon)

but i know for longer hair some people actually freeze it to the posistion the actual characters hair goes in. i think if that was done for ninetales it would look amazing.

@Kazukii: Problem with my costume is I haven't even begun it yet, I'm going fabric shopping tomorrow for the ears and turtleneck.
Its going to have me slaving away up until my parents drag me off to the airport in fourteen or so days... I'm a HUGE beginner at sewing and making clothing, do you know of any tutorials that could possibly help me with turtlenecks or a pattern for them? I have a video on how to sew and surging the neck piece to the sweater, but thats about it. My mother has made clothing but that was years ago and she's never tried her hand at a turtleneck.

Another question from my endless pile of cosplay problems, do you think I should make the turtleneck sleeveless since it'll be in the upper 80s-90s the days I'll be wearing it?(then again I'll be in an air conditioned building...) PS: I hope you don't mind all the questions ^^;

That'd be cool. Most of the diff' aren't that big, so unless it something noticeable like Pika, I think it'd be kinda pointless. Such as horn difference, unless people actually know about PKMN, they might just think the one with smaller horns got lazy/ didn't want them as big/ or the person with the bigger ones got carried away/ wanted them much bigger. xD

I'm taking a bit of creative liberty with this costume, unfortunately. I'm getting the ears commissioned by a friend since the fabrics in my town are absolutely wretched. He's a really good friend so I don't have an issue with it and I can contact him easily and frequently. Problem is when he went to HIS fabric supplies store yesterday they didn't have the correct faux fur material. Of course they wouldn't get a new shipment in and he wasn't really in the mood to go searching through his entire city for it (I can't blame him, I'd feel the same way). He ends up with a really dark shade of brown (if light isn't shined upon it it looks black even). http://i33.tinypic.com/2vxpo4x.jpg Since I'm going to have to improvise to make the really dark fur look even mildly correct, I decided to try to go with the idea that I was cosplaying as a shiny Sentret instead of a normal one (at least I'm not going as a shiny Furret, cause then my plan would be blown to bits). It seemed to go well since the Shiny had a deeper shade of brown, too bad I'm having major problems finding a pair of knee/thigh high socks that are striped with the correct color combo. I'm NOW forced to try to make the Sentret's tan color (figuring as a Shiny it's he lighter color in the stripes and the circle on the stomach) a nice deep pinkish tan. http://tinyurl.com/5zbrj2 (http://www.sockdreams.com/_shop/image_upload/product_variety_2621.jpg) (shown here)
I figured since the inside of the ears are such a rich reddish pink I could get away with it. One of my other newer pokefans told me he thought it reminded him of a Shiny more than the other two options... Do you guys think it'll work and do any of you know any online sock stores (other than sockdreams.com , I've raided their site and thats where I got the one I might buy now)?

That would be nice additional detail if people plan to do a male/female pair of the same pokemon. The difference would be a bit more apparent then. It'll also depend on the what kind of difference it is. Rhydon's horn size wouldn't be as noticeable as Pikachu's tail shape.

On a side note, I like like how female Wobbuffett wears lipstick XD

I wasn't sure if I should go to the Wig area or here for this question... but I felt this thread would work. I'm working on my own take of Ivysaur. I'm doing it with more traditional colors. [Picture I used for reference.] (http://archives.bulbagarden.net/w/upload/7/73/002Ivysaur.png)

At first I wasn't even going to do a wig, because I thought the color would just be too hard to find. But, one day I was browsing eBay and found two wigs that might work. For the wig, I'm going for something that would be the same colors as the spots.

ONE (http://img.auctiva.com/imgdata/2/4/0/9/2/2/webimg/133593179_o.jpg)
TWO (http://img.auctiva.com/imgdata/7/3/2/0/7/1/webimg/143863762_o.jpg)

I just wanted to get the opinion of other Pokemon cosplayers. Which one do you guys think would look better? Or perhaps any other suggestions?

I'm currently working on the helmet, trying to get cheap foam to hold its place so I can experiment. I'm also trying to figure out if that first part of the helm is supposed to have the _/\_ thing going on like the latter sections. Maybe I can glue in wire forms to get the shape right..

Don't get me wrong, I have nothing wrong with ecchi/hentai. But I wonder why so many people insist on making the shows of children's youth into hentai-style cosplay all the time. one of these times, there's going to be someone dressed as a half-naked pokemon/gijinka, and some poor little kid is going to point it out to there parent and that right there, is how adults start banning there kids from anime, thinking it's all like that =/

My friend was like:
'I'm going to a con and cosplay birthday party; Who can I cosplay?'.

After loads of ideas and refusals I told him to just go as a Poke' trainer.:argue:

He's all: 'I need a Poke'mon though!'.

He then started to mention lots of girly Poke'mon and indirectly hinted that he wanted me to cosplay as a Poke', but I didn't get it until he was clear. ><

I agreed to cosplay Eevee for his sake; I have stuff in my closet that would've worked perfect for the body;. I just needed to make ears, tails, and fur.
Sadly, He never mentioned it again; so I didn't mention it.:walkoff:

That's when I first lurked this forum XD looking for ideas and tips; I'd love to cosplay Eevee someday. It's his favorite Pokemon.

So maybe someday; or for Halloween I'll be Eevee.

Kitsu, that's what I meant early about how people tend to over-sexualize things that don't really have sexual content or innuendo to them, and place them in situations where younger people will be exposed to them.

But then again, I don't necessarily feel qualified to criticize other people's creativity, so I try to keep my feedback to a minimum.

Although, Midnight Toker does have a valid point, cosplay is about having fun and putting your own spin on things, but at the same time, there could stand to be a limit I suppose..

I feel like I'm being fickle and like people will get upset at me for this, so i'm going to shut up now, sorry >.<!

Difference between well done original cosplay and just slutting up a costume is to not make your goal "show off as much skin as possible". The difference between Gijinka pokemon and what you're planning is in most if not all of the designs you can look at them without the original next to it and understand the source.

What you will be doing is running around in mascot styled feet, ears, a tube top, and a soiled diaper... Anyone looking at you will not be able to figure out what the devil you are. Yes you will get attention but it won't be the good kind. It'll be the creepy guys most girls try to sneak away from or the ever popular "what the hell was she thinking" look from those of us who actually check a mirror before walking into a con.

If you didn't care so much about what other people thought then why would you bother responding?

Anyway, no cosplay is not about acting like you're better than anyone else. Its a hobby which in essence is a form of fashion making it extremely subjective, its foolish to say that one would not be judged by their overall appearance just on the basis of it solely being about fun. Regardless this is more a matter of you sexing up a costume just to do it which is right up there with the Sexy No Jitsu everything Naruto (that just won't die!) that is really just an excuse to look like a cheap hooker wrapped in even cheaper satin.

If you want to run around looking like Mommy forgot to change you then by all means have fun with it.

Its a taste issue... which I get that a person is young and wants to show off a bit of a skin but really its fashion 101 if you're putting yourself out there in a trashy way you're going to be treated like trash.

if i dont have a problem with it and am having fun why does it matter to you?

I believe I already stated my opinion on it, here let me quote you since you're obviously having issues seeing.

Its a taste issue... which I get that a person is young and wants to show off a bit of a skin but really its fashion 101 if you're putting yourself out there in a trashy way you're going to be treated like trash.

An attention whore is an attention whore is an attention whore except you're not looking to get attention through skill or in a classy way. You're taking the easy way of making a cute tubby character into something a stripper wouldn't be caught dead wearing. Its obviously you're so starved for attention that even the cheap negative attention you'll get from your possible peers and the positive attention of ever pedo loving scumbag in a 10 mile radius is enough reason to forgo actually putting thought into your costume.

Ok seriously, I didn't want to butt in but this needs to stop. Midnight_Toker and -Kitsu, please take your argument to PMs. This thread is about the discussion of Gijinka, not to call out or be rude to someone. Since you both seem to have your differences on the topic, I just ask you both to remove it from this thread. Let's try to keep the forums to a friendly level, please.

i was perfectly happy discussing gijinka until out of no where she started being rude and making completely unnecessary and unwanted comments.

i apologize for letting her continue it.

i apologize for letting her continue it.

How exactly did you "let me continue"? Plus isn't the point of a forum to discuss things, in this case a costume. If you want to go with the whole dirty diaper look then thats up to you but can't say someone didn't say something when you end up getting comments on it.

Anyway might as well get on topic, I did one of the Pokemon from the Japanese artist back at AnimeBoston this year. The irony being Stillvisions did as well and decided about the same time as myself. Really wish I had a better picture of this...

At Otakon I'm also working on a much larger project involving Gijinka styled pokemon. If you're there you'll know us all when you see us.

Brown Axel hair *Jumps for joy*

XD Hopefully it doesn't kill me.

that makes me sad, i didnt save all of them D= and i cant read japanese so the other site is useless to me ;______;

oh.. here is my.. uh.. "design".. for the costume

http://i333.photobucket.com/albums/m365/pokemon_master420/snorlax.jpg

The other site is quite easy to navigate. You pick the numbers from the side which matches to the pokemon and you'll find em.
The ones below have dates of new releases, and it shows the newer works of art.
And I don't want to add heat to the fire that thankfully is going down a bit. And don't want to seem rude, but I agree that the costume design isn't Gijinka. It's more like just 'Pokemon'. But then again you never really called it Gijinka, so eh. -shrug-

And thanks for ..er..sort of stopping the argument.
I didn't want to butt in, but I don't want to see my thread getting locked because of arguments. :D

I'm trying convince my friend to make a Gallade, so we'll match

Wow -Kitsu, that looks really good. ^-^

I'm still trying to plan out the finer points of the Gijinka I want to do, since it's gonna be a little bit before I can make it. I'm comparing designs [of the same pokemon, btw] I was thinking I was either going to just pick the design I liked the best, or take elements from certain designs and try to combine those..

That's what my friend did for her Eevee she's doing. The Gijinka Eevee isn't too creative. So we're doing that wig/tail, and other parts shoes/ outfit. XD

Sandslash is actually working out pretty decently. I made mini versions of the claws - they fit on my fingertips. XD
So soon I'll make larger ones of em, hopefully. o-o;

http://i37.tinypic.com/1562snp.jpg (Shiny Sentret cosplay, deep brown & tanned pink colors)

http://tinyurl.com/5vv7oo (please pardon the frizzy/dirty hair this is after a six hour air plane flight and not brushing it in a day and a half ><; I'll have pictures after I dye the three horizontal stripes in to it)

http://tinyurl.com/5raykr (to show the actual neck junk)

http://tinyurl.com/5w5hfg (excuse the boy boxers and little kiddie crap xD)

I'm dying all the fabrics tomorrow(turtleneck and the silk fabric I bought for the circle in the center). Does anyone have a guide/steps to dying cashmere fabric? >> I have one tutorial but I only have one of the turtleneck sweaters and there isn't enough time to order another one (I have three days until the convention).

My ears are done and I need to get a cloth headband, I'm just taking some of the stuffing out and making them shorter today. And I should probably sew the wire to the top of the ear and the sides...
I'll have better pictures tomorrow so you guys can see if I really screwed over my costume or not.
As for the hair picture, I'll be washing it (duh?) and flat ironing it so its nice and straight ><; It's going to have three parallel stripes going from left to right of a chestnut color to match the sweater's circle color.
PS: The sweater is the most comfortable thing EVER. I'll be wearing it outside of cosplaying xD; its amazingly soft cause of the cashmere/wool combo = w =

Ahh! I love you for this thread! XD You have just introduced me to this, and I am in love with Gijinka! X3 Now, I must decide which one... *whips out DS to look at Pokedex* >_>;

...Lopunny, scary... o_O

I'm think about doing Espeon (http://image.blog.livedoor.jp/hitec03hitec/imgs/7/8/787502f8.jpg), Glameow (http://image.blog.livedoor.jp/hitec04hitec/imgs/7/f/7f378ec6.jpg), Raichu (http://image.blog.livedoor.jp/hitec03hitec/imgs/f/3/f352304e.jpg), Finneon (http://image.blog.livedoor.jp/hitec04hitec/imgs/b/1/b1db6246.jpg), or Kadabra (http://image.blog.livedoor.jp/hitec04hitec/imgs/c/5/c5ffb79f.jpg). How to chose? D:

I think I'll probably go as Espeon, though. ^^ *le gasp* Do you think this (http://img.auctiva.com/imgdata/2/4/0/9/2/2/webimg/82951653_o.jpg) wig will work?

ArtisticGeek
08-05-2008, 05:35 PM
@Dream; ... Finneon, oh gosh please. If you do it correctly and make it look good... Please, I'd PAY to see that, it looks so beautiful ' v '<3
I think Espeon and Glameow are too easy (sort of being hypocritical since my Sentret cosplay was fairly simple too) tbh.
I wouldn't be able to identify Kadabra ><; I think its either Raichu or Finneon and the latter of those two is more elegant >>

It's really up to you though :]

TarnishedDream
08-05-2008, 05:47 PM
Ah, I'd looove to do Finneon. But I don't know how I'd do the fins. What would I make them out of/how would I make them? And where would I attach them? If I put them on my dress they'd just drag on the floor... D: *distress* XD

Oh, and I can't wait to see your Sentret! ^^

You should probably use lightweight wire thats easily bent :3 That'd be the easiest and probably look best.

Socks/Silk (http://i519.photobucket.com/albums/u358/ArtisticGeek94/IMG_4442.jpg)

Turtleneck (http://i519.photobucket.com/albums/u358/ArtisticGeek94/IMG_4452.jpg)

I have another dyed piece of silk thats a rosier color, I'll take a picture soon and upload it to show you guys. I think the one above is a bit too light >>; But the other one is a bit too dark... urgh. I have enough to do two more tomorrow so I might just do THAT. ><;

Ahh, that looks so good! X3 It's coming out really well!

And on a side note, jk about Finneon, since I showed it to my mom and she was all, "ASDH#ASDF!@FSD!@! You are working on too many projects at once!" I'm using my money, but since it's basically money I've gotten for my birthday and other things she said unless I get a job she's not going to let me use my money for whatever I want. Right now I'm too busy for a job, so yeah. Back to Espeon. XD I'll save Finneon for later.

D'aw D: Well as long as you do it...

Good luck with Espeon xD; It seems like Sentret with the difficulty... Just remember not to wait to the last minute to make it if you'll be wearing it to a convention >>; (like I did)

Actually if you're going for accuracy, Espeon and Glameow are not easy. The wig you choose wouldn't be too bad. But it has hints of grey in it.
It'd be awesome to see a Kadabra. And Raichu hasn't been done well either. :]

I can understand the too many costumes at once thing. << Eheh. I'll be starting on Sandslash soon here myself. Already have Palkia in the works..

The buneary ears bother me to no end, otherwise its a cute concept :'3

The insides (pink parts) look like those thin pieces of foam >>; Gah, that and the fuzz they used for the left ear (from their POV)... it should've probably been a soft cotton-material >>... Eh, the sweaters and boots/skirt are adorable though.

Actual the ears annoy me the most too. I don't know why, but maybe because they are too big? Or the material she use for the ends of the ears.

To be frank, her wig is too blonde... they should tone it down a few shades with some tanner color ' v ' that'd make it more natural looking and blend better with her naturally (or tanning booth'd) tanned skin tone.

I don't get why some people have the horrible need to get really obnoxiously bright wigs unless the character specifically NEEDS that shade or tint of the color. (IE; people using cyan blue, electric yellow or neon green wigs) It speaks more about the person who is cosplaying rather than the character they're cosplaying as (as in it shows that they can't match colors from screens to real life or that they're too lazy to try to get a better wig...). Eh, this is why I never use wigs ><

TarnishedDream
08-06-2008, 04:04 PM
Yeah, I hate super bright wigs. o_O Unless the character has a super bright shade of pink, you don't need to buy a neon pink wig. XD
Hah, you're right, her ears do look like sausage links.

Hey, I was wondering. My friend said she liked the idea, but didn't want people to think she was a furry. o_O Would people think we were furries? I didn't think they would ever, but she was being really adamant about it so I thought I'd ask you guys. XD

Kazukii
08-06-2008, 04:13 PM
Neon wigs don't go good with most cosplays in general. :/ Unless the character has it that is. Otherwise it looks like you just snagged it from a cheap halloween store.

As for the furry thing, yes and no. Some will, some won't. That's just how it's going to always be when you have some sort of tail, ears, feet, etc on. -shrug- :/
