View Full Version : Ike (SSBB) - Not Sure How To Go About Making Costume

I think the title pretty much says it all.

First things first, here are the two reference images that I'm using to make my costume:
http://rlk89.com/gameinfluence/wp-content/uploads/2007/08/ike.JPG and

Originally I was thinking about modifying a blue shirt for the tunic, then designing and making the cape and collar.

Then I thought that that the modification of a shirt might be a little too time-consuming and not very easy to actually do.

For the various pieces of armour, I was thinking about using cardboard then fiberglassing it.

Another problem... the pants. I'm not really a clothing expert, so I'm just wondering - what should I buy for the pants (I really don't have time to make much for the costume, so I want to try and buy whatever I can to save time)?

Finally, any suggestions for the steel thing on the end of the boot?

Sorry that I need to ask so many questions... I've not made a costume in a good 5 months and I'm a bit confused now reentering the world of cosplaying.

Thanks for the help everyone -

For Ike, you'll want to go to the Fire Emblem thread here (http://www.cosplay.com/showthread.php?t=70692), as FE is Ike's native game. :)

Um definitely buy the white pants rather than making them yourself. That is a good plan.

normal straight leg white pants would do, I don't think fabric choice matters too much here.

Thats my 2cents.

Alright thanks both of you - I'll go to the FE thread then

EDIT: Well that FE thread is such a collection of oddities that I can't find what I'm looking for. Methinks it's time to do a site-wide search for Ike.

OMG We are oddities!! XD

Hmm... maybe you should ask Ike cosplayers like Windlord or Rabidfanboy n.n

To make sure the fabric matches, I would make the shirt. Its not that hard to make and you can use bias tape for the trims.

The armor looks kinda like leather, you might want to make it out of that and craft foam. Or you could just make the whole thing out of crafoam. I tend to avoid fiberglass because it can get heavy and it smells like burning death.

I too am planning on doing Ike... This is how I break it down into pieces...

-dark reddish-purple collared undershirt
-Blue tunic with gold trim, left sleeve ripped, crazy coattails
-Leather armor, left breastplate and left shoulder
-Red cape with beige lining
-Plated gloves, wrists wrapped undeneath
-Bracer on left forearm
-White linen pants
-Steel-toed (lolz) shoes
-Boot covers
-Two belts, bound together on right side

I'm not too sure how I'm going to tackle the armored shoes either, heh.

I've attached the Path of Radience artwork of him, one more reference for ya.

Oshi - thanks for the reference.

Maybe we could help each other with the costumes then? I'm not planning on getting it done for a while, so I'm willing to start when you start. That way we can pool ideas and resources - might be good for both of us?

Whatever you want to do, I'm fine with.
