From my understanding, she uses acrylic paint in the desired color. So you'd use burgundy acrylic paint. Rub-N-Buff comes in several different colors, as seen here (http://www.sculpt.com/catalog_98/patina/rubnbuff.htm). Ruby may be what you're looking for.

You can actually leave off the rub-n-buff in my opinion. She was using it to get a certain look, which is not needed in your case. Follow the directions as she has it there: cut out the pieces, heat shape, layer of glue on the bottom followed with cheesecloth, another layer of glue on the bottom, repeat cheesecloth and glue for a second or third layer of cheesecloth if so desired. then, several layers of glue on the top (some say 3-5, some say 7-8), prime top and bottom (she left off this step), then paint. omit the rub-n-buff. seal (clear acrylic paint, future floor wax, etc). viola.

Priming is just like painting, just with a different material. It comes in buckets and cans just like regular paint. It goes on just like paint. It just goes on before paint. Go to any hardware store and ask for primer and you'll see. Lately I've been using Kilz brand primer (http://www.lowes.com/lowes/lkn?action=productList&N=0&Ntk=i_products&Ntt=kilz%20primer), but there are many others and I'm not even sure what other brands people recommend.
