Hello everyone! My friend recently took me to a convention and now i'm hooked lol. I didn't cosplay at that (first timer even AT a convention), but knew what cosplaying was and such. So now comes the epic task of my first costume, I want it to go off really well and so I thought I would enlist the help of anyone who wants to.

I have decided, obviously, on Link, from the Legend of Zelda for the convention i will be attending in Sept.

Work so far:

I really want to be as accurate as possible, without being ridiculous (price sake). The 'wow' factor is a must. I don't want to look tacky. I want this to go off well as it is my first one ever. Thanks for your feedback!!!

So far, your list seems pretty good.
What do you plan on doing, making or buying his outfit?

I would get a different shield. You can make one yourself for a relatively small amount of money and if you take your time with it and are careful, it will come out looking great. The shield you found is used by so many Link cosplayers out there that there won't be any "wow factor" if you use it.

I know you don't want to spend a lot of money, but you should check out http://www.fiberglassblades.com. He makes some really great stuff there and he has tutorials on how to make his style props (including the master sword XD)

Ooh I do like those ears though, good choice!

The Zelda thread here is awesome, I would suggest going there for help.

YES! Seek help from the Legend of Zelda thread. All of the Links there are amazing. I have to agree with aBrokenBullet on the shield, though. Also, while I think those ears are nice, I personally think that they're too long for a Twilight Princess Link. For my TP Zelda I bought these ears:

I think the shape is a little bit more accurate.

In response to Koisnake:
Probably buy what I can. I'm not that skilled in making stuff, although my friend could help. I think some stuff will have to made for accuracy purposes.

In response to aBrokenBullet:
That sword looks great, but money is kind of an issue. My friend might have a Master Sword that I could borrow (he collects), although I don't know what it is made of and such. Again, I'm not that skilled so I don't know how I could be able to forge a shield, much less a sword.

In response to TheLadySummoner:
Thanks for your input as well! I will be sure to take a peak over there.

Well, I've found it's just plain easier, and funner, to make what you can for your cosplay then buy or alter something for the hard parts. IE, my brother found a reasonbely authentic master sword, at the circus of all places. The first step in making a costume, or cosplay is to identify all of the parts. link in general is tunic, hair, ears, hat, shield, and boots. (some cons don't let you bring or draw swords, so i call them props.) then it gets a bit more complicated depending on which Link this one has a chainmail shirt under his Tunic and his sword straps on differently. The "WOW" factor usually depends on how much time and effort went into it. I suggest making the tunic, i think broadcloth would be a good starter fabric, and the hat. altering a few belts for the sword straps, and his belt. and I've seen Links wearing white sweat pants, or the like. as for the shield, my first thought was cardboard really, but I know that's not a good way to go. have you seen the huge pieces of insulation foam, at Home depot? if you carve that into shape, and then paper mache it and then sand and paint over it, I think it would be pretty cool. throughout the whole thing though, what you have to remember is you're doing this to have fun. And link is a very recognizable costume, you really don't need to get to technical in the details. Since this is the newest version of link his costume is the most detailed yet. and if it's not ready in time, or you have issues, you can always change the game! and if you don't mind me asking, which con are you going to?

i as well advocate the zelda board. I found way more help for my zelda than I thought existed! BTW Good Luck!

I've already been posting over there and getting ideas... thanks though. I was going to try and go to NDK in CO, but I don't think that's going to happen anymore...
