View Full Version : Your fanime masquerade award goes to...

Dark Vision

Now a lot of people I see at mad or disapointed the judging of the masquerade. I love some of the skits and they did derserve an award.

So give your award out to your favorite group.

Mine for the most daring, most truly sexy skit goes the Dilandu. He worked the stage as if he were in a strip club. I love his working the microphone stand. Also his madonna like fashion on being a camera slut was truly awesome. I think he went beyond the expectations of any one.

06-25-2003, 01:43 AM
i personally loved the group that did the hilarious FFX skit. I died laughing at the KFC thing.

And the big problem with the masquerade that year (as I heard from eurobeat king), was that instead of having the judges shoot the shit between them, they were seperated and used a point system. The dude who was the big winner told me on Sunday that he enjoyed that he won, but he felt it was quite unfair and that there were other good groups. I think he was a very gracious winner, and I give him props for that (as well as his fucking awesome costume!).

06-25-2003, 03:41 AM
Oh yeah - the "Dilandau strip show" had me in absolute stitches!! (And Dilandau in the audience was thinking: "Better him than me!! :p ) ^^

06-25-2003, 03:57 AM
I really liked the USA Musume group. I mean, any time 10 people are dancing on strange in sync is simply amazing.

Oh and the fact that they were all wearing black vinyl had *nothing* to do with it...

<whistles innocently...>

06-25-2003, 10:44 AM
I liked the FFX-2 skit (the one digitaldreams was in). It's all about working old school music into your skit ^.^

heh i like the dilandau strip skit too. I like how the camera made him really look like a stripper and someone gave him money too. I was laughing so hard and thought " what would karisu think of this" heh . i talked to him earlier before the masquerade and he had a tape that he was trying to get them to play. that took alot of guts and i thought he should got the award for the most daring cosplay. I liked the FFX skit too cuz of the valefor (sp?) and it was pretty funny. i think our skit did well too but there were other pretty good skit. i didnt agree with the judging and i thought that u could only win one award? oh well. we did our skit for fun and thats what really mattered.

06-25-2003, 12:45 PM
Aoshi - As I had mentioned, it was a different system this year, it seems. The judges were all seperate, so they couldn't coordinate having one award per person. They used a point system. Hence the dealing with ties.

06-25-2003, 02:48 PM
Stripper Dilandau should've gotten SOMETHING in my opinion... I mean, c'mon, he danced around the freakin' microphone stand, for Pete's sake! ;D

I also thought the FFX skit was great... my friends were laughing backstage and their only experience with FFX was watching me play it in our living room for hours on end, so there was some definite universal appeal to what they did on stage.

And...uhhh... I liked our skit too... but I knew we wouldn't win an award. ;D

06-25-2003, 02:51 PM
*_* USA Musume... so... cool... Renai Revolution.... awesome song.... ::thuds::

06-25-2003, 03:25 PM
My friend and I only made it for the last portion of the skits, starting with the FFX one. We were in stitches by the time it was over--gotta love that KFC bucket. *grin*

Unfortunately, we missed all of the skits (minus two) that won awards so I have no idea how they were.

I REALLY regret missing the Dilandau stripping one....

06-25-2003, 03:31 PM
oh btw, the stripping dilandu one is my friend Joe. I swear that if I see him before I leave for AX, I'm going to smack him upside the head, in a good way of course. I had a big sweatdrop forming when I saw that. But, what he did was daring. I just wish the armitahe worked the camera like he did. oh well, you can't please them all.
well, for me, it should've been the Galazy Fraulein Yuna cosplayers.

06-25-2003, 03:36 PM
The stripping Dilandau should've won an award, he was great. So should have the FFX skit with Valefor in it, I loved the moogle Yuna.

06-25-2003, 05:10 PM
I didn't stick around for the awards, which seems to have been a good thing - I would have wanted more people to get awards than got them.

There were a LOT of good skits and costumes. In cases like this, I like the kind of judging system where the judges are allowed to come up with additional award categories to give recognition to others who deserve it.

06-25-2003, 06:22 PM
Since my sis-in-law was Wakka in the KFC skit, I have to admit to being a smidge biased.

That being said, the Chippendales Dilandau had me absolutely rolling on the floor. That takes SERIOUS cojones!

Also loved the PSO skit, but then, I used to play the game incessantly so I know all the injokes. Rappy!

I didn't stick around for the awards... I thought that the Amazoness Quartet from SMSuperS was entertaining. PallaPalla was the cutest thing! =3

06-25-2003, 11:01 PM
hrm, hearing this almost makes me regret staying to play in the tower of dead anime characters. almost.

06-25-2003, 11:41 PM
rofl.. i almost forgot about the person you have (er... making that person you gave...) stripper dilandu a dollar. that was too funny. props to that guy for being brave.

Tho' actually most of the skits were ruined for me by this annoying loud mofo who was sitting in front of me. Why he thought anyone wanted to hear his opinion on things is beyond me ~.~

06-25-2003, 11:44 PM
I loved the stripper Dilandau skit! Hilarious. And that FFX skit with Moogle Yuna. .. Then there's that one skit with the Amazoness Quartet. I agree, that Palla Palla is ADORABLE! ^_^

I didn't stick around for the awards either..
Who got the awards? o_O

06-26-2003, 12:40 AM
I thought Utena dancing party was cool, they did Madonna's "Vogue" That was cool...very pretty costumes and people really COULD dance...

yeah i was kinda surprised that the stripper dilandu didn't get the courageous award lol cause that took guts to do hehehe. Umm yeah generally I would think they would stick the judges all together that way there'd be a general consensus on who wins what award and most cons have what they call judges awards which go to whatever group the judge in perticular likes the best. Those awards often have the funny names like "does your mamma know what you do?" or "best use of a fluffy" or something they generally tailor the award title to the group/entry that they give it.

Yeah, that's what I mean. At the SF cons I go to, i always see awards for things like "best use of styrofoam and dryer hose", "most creative placement of lighting effects", "best flirting with the audience", "most likely to repel an alien invasion singlehanded", and such.

Ok, I've found a new mission in life... to win that award! XD

06-26-2003, 01:57 AM
Yeah, Stripper Dilandau should've at least gotten an award like...

Most Creative Use for Microphone Stand Other than for a Microphone

Glad Your Parents Aren't Watching This with You Award

or maybe

Most Likely to Sway You to Watch Escaflowne Again

Ahhh..the possibilities would've been endless!

Karisu-Dilandau WAS watching this - & so were her kids, heh. ^^ It was only PG-13ish though. (Darn, he didn't take off the undershirt.... :p )

EDIT: Positivespace - I really loved your skit and your costumes! And you make a really excellent Paine! ^___^

06-26-2003, 02:37 AM
I was all for the Dilandau winning most daring. He worked the camera so beautifully, I wanted him to keep going. The camera guy giving him a dollar made it all the better.

06-26-2003, 02:45 AM
Miwa: Thanks! :D I was the FOmar in the back who was struggling to keep the Rappy upright, and I also mixed the sound for the skit. Yeah, I enjoyed the striptease Dilandau as well. I could think of quite a few other folks who were worthy of an award. At least our skit wasn't as disasterous as it was at Sakura-Con.

06-26-2003, 04:09 AM
Karisu-sama: Glad our skit met your parental approval... we tried to keep the booty shaking down to a minimum ;D (By the way, the picture we took together is in my gallery if you haven't seen it yet.)

06-26-2003, 01:45 PM
Profile in courage really should have gone to the stripping Dilandau. The SM kiss has been done several times in the past few years, so it isn't that shocking at all =/

And thanks to everyone for praising the FFX skit #^^# It would have been nice to win an award, but the fact that people remembered it and liked it so much is really satisfying.

06-26-2003, 03:57 PM
I also thought that the point system was not a very good thing. I was pleased with our skit though (the freaky puppet master over the dollies one - inspired by Mihara Mitsukaz artwork. I was the puppetmaster) but I had a lot of people come up to us after the masquerade, saying how awesome/cool/freaky our skit was and that to me was more rewarding ^___^
I guess I'd rather be a good skit that the audience likes (even if they aren't familiar with the artwork) than a skit people thought was bad yet got rewarded by a point system.

I liked a lot of the skits myself ~ I think it was a really kick butt show despite the slighted awards ^____^

totally I agree, I feel much better when the crowd loves your skit more than when you win an award. Although it's always a plus when the crowd loves ur skit and u get rewarded ^_~ hehe but yeah there were tons of good skits and yeah it was very odd how almost all the skits did some sort of dance number lol I also liked how fanime brought back the microphones cause like eventhough my group didn't need them it's always good to have for those groups who can't project and need it. They were very sensitive cause like I could hear on our masq video of our skit when I dropped the telepipes on stage I could hear the "thud thud" of me dropping them ^_^;

Yeah karisu I was wondering what u were going to think about that dilandu ehhehehe but it was good he kept it tasteful and pg-13 unlike the one armatige girl >_< I remember her last year as seriyuu no miko and like she was either falling out of her top or it at least looked like it which caused massive fanboy hooting X_X

06-27-2003, 12:41 AM
she didn't mean to fall out, though - you could clearly see the shock/embarrassment on her face. I feel sorry for her.

06-27-2003, 01:35 AM
lupineloli - Yours was beautiful. However, being used to doing stuff like musical theater, I saw so much potential for the dancing and choreography. Not to say it wasn't good (because, hot damn, it was), but there were things... that coulda been done... and yeah, I'll shut up. It was purty ^,^;;

I did a skit too... I was Lulu in Gothic Final Fantasy. I was a bit sad... I had actually written a full skit, but at the last minute, my boyfriend (Vincent) got severe stage fright. So I improvised the mini-script as the Aeriths were getting slaughtered. It was only afterward that he told me it was his first time actually on stage. Bleh, now he tells me! He wants to do the actual skit next con, though. Wish me luck I can help cure his stage fright!

Thanks for the all the nice things said about USA Musume ^^ We all really appreciate it!

I won't say who should have won but I will say that Stripper Dilandau had to be my absolute favorite. He WORKED it. XD Too awesome. As for my other favorites... Rachel, Lisa, and Lynleigh's Morbid was stunningly beautiful as was CJ and Ashley's Grandia costumes. The FFX-2 one with the killer Paine cosplayer made my day, and you gotta love the Moogle Yuna and its Summon ^_^ Jenny, you kicked ass!

06-27-2003, 09:50 AM
I really enjoyed stripping Dilly too....but my fave was Seperoth singing "I can change" and then running around and killing all the litte Areis's. That was freaking hysterical. Also, the Fushigi Yuugi group was SO random that it was funny. I really enjoyed those more than the ones that the "men" behind me seemed to enjoy.....I wish they just all would have left and gone to the hentai marathon....

06-27-2003, 10:52 AM
Since we're talking about skits....what did y'all think of my group? My was The Three Trigguners: The Vash Hunter

lupineloli , I LOOOVED y'alls skit. Very freaky and well done. The dancer in me was totally cheering. :)

I liked most of the dance skits. =) The Vogue one was cool and I don't even want to know how many hours the USA Musume group practiced. When y'all hit the mark, I was like: wow!!!!

And I liked positivespace's. (more dancing!) I'm taking you gals clubbing. LOL Y'all would totally tear up the dance floor. You dance better than some of the gogo dancers I used to work with. =)

Kitty's was funny too. Gotta love Whitney Houston. =)

06-27-2003, 02:43 PM
Thanks Mink for mentioning my group! We were the Fushigi Yuugi turned Sailor Scouts or er something like that!
We just wanted to do something totally different and odd. That seemed to do the trick.

I loved the Dilandu. He was hilarious and such a nice guy too.

Thank you for your kind comments on USA Musume! We worked really hard on our performance and were pleased that we pulled it off. Here are my favorite skits at Fanime:

I loved the Dilandau skit. He was really daring. I had never seen a skit like his before. I liked the part when he crawled up to the camera and someone handed him a dollar. It was very original.

I liked Albert and Collie’s Initial D skit. Albert showed up in his car and started running around on stage. Collie was in her Gambler Rikku costume.

Ashley (Raya) and CJ had beautiful costumes.

Lynleigh, Rachael, and Lisa had a gothic lolita skit. It had a nice creepy undertone to it.

Wayne#2 and Kitty’s skit was really funny. Kitty was Lemme and performed to the FFX-2 pop song. Kitty started singing to “I Will Always Love You” from The Bodyguard soundtrack, the audience got a huge kick out of it.

I also liked the FFX-2 skit with Paine. That must be a really tough costume to pull off.

My most favorite skit out of the entire night was the Final Fantasy X skit by Sakura Mochi. If anyone ever played Final Fantasy X, their skit was the one to watch! I thought the skit had a really funny twist to FFX. Jenny's Valefor was cool!

Girl, just name the club and the time and you're on! You're right, my girls and I have been known to bust some moves when the music's right (harder to do when you're in chunky platform shoes in costumes, though... LOL).

To the folks that mentioned my FFX-2 skit with my girls... THANKS SO MUCH!! It was our first time (in everything: cosplay, con-attendance, masquerade) and we were pretty unsure as to how the audience would react to us... but I'm so happy you guys enjoyed it. =)

Heh... I passed on Masquerade due to fatigue. I give my "Stick With It" award to the group that did the YuYu Iron Chef skit.

I was to be part of it but due to personal reasons I ended up having to bail. I was glad to hear that they manged to find someone to replace me and manged to "stick with it."

I thank that group for helping me get more into cosplay those couple of years ago.

Positive Space - If you are new at this, it sure didn't look like it. Great recorded track too! XD Brought back a few memories of high school to hear some old skool hiphop.

Ack, I just made myself sound really old right now. LOL

heh i just watched our PSO skit and i was laughin so hard cuz of the mistakes i can catch lol.. in the end all of us had fun doing it.

06-30-2003, 11:32 AM
If I had known they weren't into the "walk on" thing, I would have done a skit instead of walking on. What the heck was I thinking??? "Short and sweet" my arse! Next time I'm bringing out the BIG GUNS. (Ok, so maybe an 18 month old baby)

But I'm glad you guys liked Sakura Mochi's FFX... I'm biased because I am a part of the group, I just didn't get to be a part of their skit. I'm also glad you guys liked I Can't Believe It's Not Better's "I can change" because they too are a part of our group. Sakura Mochi got split up into three parts. So what was I? Look at my avator. I sucked.

the yatta thing kinda..scared me...though....but eh... :omfg:

i think the lollita doll skit and the kfc gig shoulda gotten something..mysterioso and humor! who could ask for more?

I liked the Fangrrl Totoro skit, and not just because I was in it. My friend Mako-chan spent a year thinking up the Fangrrl Totoro concept and went to a lot of trouble to design and sew the costume. She deserved an award and got shafted. Again. She was an extremely detailed Tsunami in 2002 (pictures of which can bee seen in my gallery.) and didn't win anything because she was a walk-through and not a skit. So, for her efforts, I award her the Haru-chan Originality and Craftsmanship award!

07-06-2003, 06:37 PM
Leloi, I hear you about the walk-ons! I wish they had told us 'yes, you can walk on, but we don't like them at all.'

Not that it really would have mattered. I've been thinking for the last few weeks about what kind of Julia skit I could have done, and come up with nada. (The best I could think of would have been walking out there carrying a sign that says "i am NOT fujiko!") Ah well. I had such a good time backstage anyway, it really doesn't matter.

As for my awards?

Those Grandia costumes were totally superb. Again, wish they'd warned us about the walk ons.

I loved anything that involved choreographed dancing. (Top of that list, that FFX2 group and USA Musume) (Bottom of that list, the group that attempted the chicken. That was NOT how you do the chicken! I am from the state of polka, was born knowing all the words to 'roll out the barrel' whether I wanted to or not, and know how to do the chicken properly. I can't help taking personal offense at that skit.) ^_^
The stripping Dilandau (especially the dollar part) made me smile, as did the Utena group (though I must say I was jealous of the Utena... no fair that the guy pulled off the costume so well.)

07-06-2003, 10:50 PM
I loved the PSO group, it had me cracking up in the back. Its a shame it didn't get recognized for its faithful recreation of 90% of the PSO games I've played.

As one of the members of the "chicken" group I take personal offence to your post because you are personally attacking my group. we did this for FUN! who cares if we did it RIGHT or not! Besides we only did the dance to poke fun at the rappy on stage. Many people who play PSO know this joke of calling them chickens and it was done merely for this joke. It seemed the crowd enjoyed our skit regardless whether it was done 100% correct or not. Besides I've always learned the chicken dance to be "wiggle, wiggle, wiggle, wiggle, tweet, tweet, tweet, twee t,flap, flap, flap, flap, and then you clap" so blame whoever taught me it that way for teaching me wrong. Once again I state we did this for FUN not for accuracy and yes we did have fun doing this skit. I'm sorry if I offended you in our skit but I think the audience enjoyed our skit regardless what you say and yes, we take your comments as being a personal attack it's one thing to say you didn't like our skit but it's another to rip it apart especially over a really small point on our skit, that whole point lasted what? 10 seconds BIG DEAL! Get over it! You try teaching 3 other people to do 2 distincly different dances in 4 hours and it all depends on the person whether or not they choose to do what was taught or to do their own thing.

Um... I'm sorry.
It's my fault for trying to use sarcasm in a forum... it doesn't work. What I said was not serious... I was kidding. I did not actually take personal offense or actually think you were insulting Wisconsin. It's likely there are regional differences in the learning of the chicken.

Truthfully, I found your skit amusing. I loved the use of the Yatta dance and I'm sure I would have liked the skit more if I knew what it was about (I don't play any games). I'm sorry that I came off as serious. That wasn't my intention.

oh ok cause like the way you said it we were on the bottom of ur list and like you kept saying we did it wrong etc... and yes I'm a midwestern girl born and sorta raised ^_^; Lived there the first 4 years of my life and still go back there every now and then for visiting family. I guess next time if you're kidding just type j/k after it or something so that way it won't get taken personally ^_^;;;

I know this is a year too late.. ^^ But I'm a slow reader!
I'm glad so many people enjoyed the FFX skit with the KFC bucket. <-- I was the Lulu and wrote the skit. (With help from all my friends)
I love writing skits and it means the most to me when people enjoy it! I just love spreading our evil ideas.. XD
::pokes Lei:: Your costume was adorable! and I like walkons..
It just that fanime has no craftsmanship so it's all about the judges personal taste.
Wee I can't wait for next year!
