hey everybody.

I was hoping to find some pointers on sword making. Im making my first sword prop ever and I really want it to be Epic! I need assistance on the Ragnell sword Ike's sword from Fire Emblem/SuperSmash Bros.

Any help is greatly appreciated and who knows, there may be some Potions and Either in it for me to share too.

for a fairly flat sword like that i recomend a sheet of about 1.5 in thick plastic. Its durable and wont snap as easy as wood, I had a sword like that. OR you can use wood but make sure that it is a hard wood or else its gonna snap. SAND! everytime you cut sand it. that is the big thing to make your cosplay sword amazing looking. AS for instructions go... get wood or the platic... draw a clear defined picture and go to a print shop to have them blow it up for you to the actual size... lay it on the material and cut using your guide. I would recomend a Jig saw.

And if you ever played Fire Emblem Path of Radience. You should take a look at the silver sword its pretty cool.

I am also planning on making a Ragnell sword, and was wondering what would be a good material to make the hilt out of, and how to attach the blade to the hilt? Any suggestions would be very welcome.

Thank you,

I actually made myself a Ragnell for my Ike cosplay during the summer. The blade was constructed out of pine and the handles were made out of two separate wooden dowels (of varying diameter). The dowel handle closest the hilt was caved down with a whittling knife and then sanded. I used paper clay to sculpt the details on the other dowel. The handguard portion of the hilt was made with a combination of paper clay and paper mache. Paper mache was used as a base onto which the details were sculpted with paper mache.

Yeah I really don't have much time right now to go into a lot of detail but if you want to see pictures of it they can be found here (http://auritailchaser.deviantart.com/) or you can view them by clicking on my signature. I have not gotten pictures of the final version of the Ragnell I made (I repainted the blade and glazed the entire thing). Hopefully I'll get pictures of the final version up soon. Also if you have any questions feel free to AIM/Yahoo messenger me. I am usually online.
