Kuroshitsuji is basically almost unheard of right now I think. Though its going to become an anime soon so its popularity should increase. But because of that I think it has a really nice fan base right now! I even saw a couple cosplays from this series on cosplay.com! So I'm thinking I might attempt to cosplay Ciel Phantomhive, in particular,This (http://image.blog.livedoor.jp/animekurabu/imgs/0/f/0f96ceff.jpg) version.
So I'm wondering, the purple cloth thing Ciel (the boy in red) is sitting on, is that part of the outfit?

Is anyone else planning a cosplay from this series?

Yes, that is part of the outfit; you can tell by the black lace along the bottom and the fact that it's not just a rectangular cut along the bottom like a blanket, sheet, or sash would be.
And...is that really a guy?

Ah! Your right! So I guess I'll be looking for shiny purple fabric on my next trip to Fabricland then. Yes, it really is a guy.

Yayness! another Kuroshitsuji fan <3
My group's debut is next year, though we started planning in April ^^;

I want to know-is the cloth really purple? It looks brownish to me (I'm slightly colour-blind though).

mini_kitten_o5

Personally it looks like a cross between purple and brown to me. Since the pillows that Ciel is sitting on looks to be more brown to me. I'm probably going to use satin for that.

And yay! Another Kuroshitsuji fan! I think Kuroshitsuji is going to be a good hit when it comes out and get lots of cosplayers. Since when I looked on Curecos, there were over 440 cosplay images for Kuroshitsuji.

Actually, I think someone cosplayed this version on the site, and they had the cloth attached to the outfit. You could PM them and ask if you want.

Ever since I got the manga I've been dying to make one of Ciel's outfits, even though I'm kind of taller than a 12 year old XD I really liked the dress he wore during the Jack the Ripper case, and I thought his paperboy outfit was pretty cute.

I looked at cosplays of that version of Ciel, and I noticed almost all of them put the purple cloth thing so I'll definately be sewing that on.

I adored the dress Ciel wore during he Jack the Ripper case as well, I originally wanted to sew that version until I realized how much fabric would be needed. (I'm officially broke after Fan Expo) Since I'm going to be buying a wig for Ciel, I decided I might as well try to make the strawberry version of him after.

Haha, yeah when I saw how much fabric would be needed, I got kind of put off. But my friend found this fabric store that's in a bad neighborhood, but the fabric is soooo cheap. Then again the dress would probably require a hoop under it, or some pettycoats...:lost:
Is it just me, or does Ciel seem to wear roses...a lot? On just about every one of his outfits...

It seems that either way Ciel's dress will cost a couple shiny pennies. I never thought about the hoop skirt, though now that you mention it, its probably necessary. Since without it the dress would simply be limp, and not have the poof.

Ciel does wear roses a lot. I think the only one Ciel doesn't have a rose on is his strawberry one. Besides that, roses, roses, and more roses. Thats probably why I went to Dollarama and stocked up on fake roses.

Haha, I'm the complete opposite. Most of the cosplays I've seen so far don't have the cloth attached.
Here's one of them: http://i305.photobucket.com/albums/nn210/lamentfulmiss/0015fq2k.jpg

I suppose it's better doing without it if you're going to a con that is going to be crowded, or else people might trample or trip over it. I think I'd cry if people step on my costume..(T^T)
Or maybe you can make it detachable? You can put it on during a photoshoot but take it off when you wear it to a con. Just my opinion~ ^_^

Thats brilliant! Just need to think on HOW to make it detachable. Because if I use velcro, when I'm not using it, the back of my costume will have a weird velcro strip left there. And, yah, people stepping on parts of your costume ain't fun. I've had it happen.

Yes, Ciel's hair changes every once in a while. First I thought it was a nice silver/grey, then all of a sudden it became a silver/blue. Now when I saw the anime picture it became a dark blue. So I'm thinking I'll just get a silver wig, and sharpie dye some blue in. That way it will be a cross between all his colors! Though honestly, why can't Ciel have one solid hair color? Though it would be nice to have some opinions on his hair color, so, anyone have any idea what his MAIN hair color should be?

I totally thought Ciel was a redhead until I saw the anime pics. I have no idea why.

Probably because he looks like Ravi from DGM. XD

Maybe you could have it attached with snaps? That way it wouldn't be too noticable when it's detached.

Lol I actually thought Ciel was a girl when I first opened the manga. :hafha: But his hair...ugh can't the creators just decide on one color? I honostly consider his hair to be silver/blue, but now that the anime is making it a dark blue...

mini_kitten_o5
08-31-2008, 04:21 PM
Time to buy snaps! And detachable would be useful, especially at places like Fan Expo, where there are lots of escalaters. Imagine if it got snagged.

Same here! I thought Ciel was female at first. But then when I actually read it, a light shined down on me and said, "Ciel is a boy." Though I probably thought he was a girl because he crossdressed as one later on. I hope at least the anime will be consistent. If the anime decides to make Ciel's hair change colors every episode, I think I'm going to freak.

Who knows Blasphemy Blue? Maybe Toboso Yana will pull another hair color switch soon and make it red. And I guess Ciel does look a bit like Ravi. Maybe its the eyepatch?

Welcome sleepy hikari to the Kuroshitsuji cosplay thread! There are many versions of Ciel, thats for sure. Ciel actually has a closet, not the same clothes every day. I was wondering, since there are so many different outfits, should I edit the first post and make a little "Gallery" I guess of outfits different characters wear so far? And doesn't Ciel's hair bug EVERY Ciel cosplayer?

You could always try a toy store. I'm pretty sure that I have seen fake chain saws that are the real size. Just like how they have those fake tool sets and mini saw tables for the little boys, they probably make toy chainsaws, so you could always try to get one of those and just give it a better paint job and add some wear and tear to it.

Also...if anyone cosplays pirate Ciel...I will seriously love you. The other day I was bored so i did a few sketches of his Jack the Ripper crossplay, and yeah....I will go poor if I make that version.

Blasphemy Blue

The toy store had a tiny one, but I'm looking for something a bit more... yeah. XD I'm considering just making one myself, or getting an old used one and doing the haunted house method of removing the blade and replacing with with a wooden/plastic one. The weight and smell would probably be an issue, though. Otherwise... Maybe I can just make it as a prop and get the recorded effect and a pulley system for the 'rope'.

I could probably make it prettier if I did it myself. XD

It would be pretty awesome though if it wasn't harmful but still made the noises. You'd definately freak out some cosplayers! It would probably be cheaper to make it yourself, despite the weight probablem. Replicas from movies can be bought, and they'd be a lot lighter, but A LOT more expensive then necessary.

My gosh, my nightmare came true.

http://community.livejournal.com/kuroshitsuji/47665.html?thread=421681

From the website of Kuroshitsuji to the scans, Ciel's hair changed shades! And length. First it looks like a grey/blue (dark), then a medium grey/blue, now all of a sudden in one of the scans it looks LIGHT blue, with a small tint of grey. Sometimes it looks grey.

So, I was wondering, for people cosplaying Ciel, which versions do you plan on doing?

Im going to have a Black Butler group for Ycon this year~~ we have Sebastian, Ciel, Bardo, Finian, Lou, Angelina, Grell, William, and Undertaker~

Im doing Ciel myself~ Im currently making chapter 19 color page that outfit... the one with strawberries... for the con cause I cannot get the red one done on time ^^;;;... I started though... I think Im gonna make at least 3 version of Ciel cos hopefully by end of this year... Strawberries one, red one and the gray one... I really want to do chapter 21 color page that one... but the fabric for that one is super hard to find. If I can find the fabric for it during Xmas season Ill make that one too~

Its funny that no one thought about cosplaying William, not even Japanese, and he is a such cool/ easy to cos character. Im sad he only appear in manga for 3 pages.

now you mention it... I kind of want to cos Ciel in the outfit that he kisses a skull. I think the outfit design from the art page when Angelina die.

What good timing! I had no idea this thread existed, but I just happened upon it by accident... right after updating my Sebastian Michaelis costume. ^_^

Sebastian is my "Sunday cosplay" for this year (the quick and comfy costume worn on the last day of the con, when you're too exhausted to wear anything complicated). We're in the middle of two MASSIVE group cosplay projects that are going to take the next ten months to complete, so I wanted to do at least one costume that didn't require 2.5 hours of makeup and prosthesis prep to wear.

I somehow managed to convince my two cohorts to be Ciel and Grell, so we'll have a small group, at least. I'm really hoping to have them done in time for Youmacon... Will any other Kuroshitsuji cosplayers be there, by chance? I'd love to get group photos!

Thank you for posting all the color pictures! You had a few that I hadn't seen before. (I have vol. 1-4 of the manga, but no promo art or magazine scans.)

I don't usually make it out to the west coast for cons, since it's about 2,300 miles from Indiana, and we always drive to cons. (It's hard to transport our huge costumes by anything other than van.) But one of these years I'm going to make it to Anime Expo... I'll just have to pack smaller costumes! ^_^

@BlasphemyBlue: I don't know which cons you're attending, but can you carry a gutted chainsaw around? Most of the events around me have pretty stringent props policies, and wouldn't allow a former device of mass destruction (for security reasons).

I did see a pretty decent fake chainsaw for sale at a costume shop recently -- I actually considered picking it up for our Grell. Lo, Halloween season is upon us. ^_^

William! That will be purely epic! As for me, I'm still planning the Red Ciel cosplay. My gosh, I feel so bad for destroying my precious perfect pair of boots. But its for Ciel! I'm not sure if this will help for anyone planning a strawberry Ciel cosplay. But I stumbled upon a felt tutorial to make strawberries. I made some myself!

Its a free tutorial too! ~

It seems Grell and Sebastion are pretty popular cosplay choices too! I'm also working out an Elizabeth cosplay. But as of right now my fingers sting too much from sewing, and hot glue gun. Ciels many hats are a pain!

mini_kitten_o5: How are you gonna make that boot? I tried many store/online store but I cannot find any that somehow match with that design.

^^ thank you to the tutorial~ Ill make some after Ycon when I have time ^^;;; got too many cos that I have to finish next week...

Hat wise I went to party store and bought some plastic one... they are really cheep, less then $2... and use whatever fabric that match with that outfit to make cover for it.

sure~ do you want me to upload some more if I got my computer back? Im pretty sure I got lot more in my computer... not using my computer for these few weeks.

Trust me, the bitter irony of that boot got to me. Apparently its called, "Victorian Lace Up Boot." XD I figured that out when I searched Payless (http://www.payless.com/Catalog/ProductDetail.aspx?&TLC=Womens&SLC=WomensBoots&BLC=WomensBootsTrendy&Width=Regular&ItemCode=64012&LotNumber=064558&Type=Adult&Popularity=&DescriptiveColor=Black).

But it was too short, so all it took was a trip to google and...TADA (http://www.shoebuy.com/funtasma-victorian-120/266233/566140)! Exact match? Now just some minor alterations. They have it in white too. Though I forgot where I found mine, since I went out and bought it myself. (Mine was in black, though just search on google, "Victorian Lace Up Boot" and you'll find millions.)

I found a mini top hat tutorial on Deviantart and Altered it a bit to make it a bit larger. Then it was all sewing and the hot glue gun. :D

Theres more!? Sure, of course! The more the merrier. Though now I doubt my dream of making all of Ciel's costumes will never come true.

mini_kitten_o5: thanks for the info~ Ill go and search some too~ I saw one pair last winter but it cost $300+. hopefully I can find something cheaper online... TT

I make a small top hat before for my Code Geass cos with some foam and hot glue... but I dont really like it... since most of the Top hat that Ciel ware actually fit his head, itll be better if you have the actual hat that fit.

Im trying to do that too.. but I dont think itll ever happen since he have new cos ever 2 pages ^^;;;

I saw this (http://fetishfaerie-stock.deviantart.com/art/Mini-Top-Hat-Tutorial-79563375) tutorial on Deviantart so I'm going to construct it today. I already made all the strawberries needed, and a couple rasberries, and some red ribbon. Foam and I don't mix very well, so I'm following that tutorial to make the basic hat, and then just decorating it. Though I'm making it about and inch bigger.

Right now its Fancy Red One, Strawberry, and Anime Version. Since, Fancy red is just so...Fancy! Strawberry Version, I get to test out my hat making skills. And Anime Version since, through some magical box in the basement I found materials. Some white cloth, and a whole bunch of navy blue.

Though I'm wondering, should the buttons on the strawberry version be false, like its just there, doesn't really have to work. Or real? Like its functionable.

mini_kitten_o5:Nice~ the anime version cos should be fast to make~

for mine... Im gonna just use snap on to hold it together cause I have to finish it by the coming Thurs. Though I might sew on the real one later on if I have time.

I love that design too~ too bad its not in color...
I plan to make it "someday" too... though I have no idea how am I gonna make that boning on the skirt. ^^;;; Im not a prop person. Any idea?

It'd be kind of fun to make up colouring actually.
As for the boning...I have a friend who made a cosplay using skirt boning...I plan to ask for help.

I'll be sure to share what I find out when I do.

It's too bad Sebastian has like no outfits besides his suit...would so ge tmy friend to do it....but it's not artistic enough for her.

I have an idea for those who are planning a Ciel cosplay where he is kissing the skull as well! I'm not really sure about this, but the back part kind of looks like half of a crinoline, or hoop skirt.

Heh. x3 Hey everyone~
I've been lurking around this thread for a while, so I thought that I should make an appearance and not be the creepy kid I am. XD
I'm planning a Ciel cosplay for next year- the strawberry version!~
-------

mini kitten: I see that you're working on Ciel's strawberry outfit in the future too! :'D
We could help each other out on that. x3
By the way, thank you so much for the links ;w;

Welcome to the thread Xuki-Kun! Yup, strawberry Ciel, there will never be enough! Sure, ask me if you need any help, well, mostly the hat, since right now my brain is kinda...dead, with the rest of the outfit. And yup, tutorials are <3

Actually, in the reference pic I noticed something-
There's a nicely..pleated 'pile' of pink and purple fabric below Ciel...is that supposed to be part of the outfit? or is that like a royal straberry..seat? XD
I ask the weirdest questions..

EDIT: Oh, or is it supposed to be one of those..tail..attachment things?

EDIT2: I keep on leaving things out of my posts. = =''
ycysusan2001!~ I went back and actually [roughly] read all the posts..
and now I know one more person who's making Ciel's strawberry outfit..
Strawberry Army! :'D

mini_kitten_o5

I'm pretty sure thats just part of the giant strawberry chair. Cause Ciel's rich like that, and that a pink part seems to be flying up, while Ciel is leaning more downwards. And now I have to learn to make raspberries out of felt, since i noticed on the hat, theres also 3 raspberries. I'm so glad its Halloween shopping season, can get Ciel's eyepatch for cheap. (Hello thar Mr.Pirate, I only need your eyepatch.)

Some of the Japanese make the red ruffles part of the cos... so I make it part of the cos too, though I make my as attachment~ can be taken off. I almost finish my Ciel strawberry outfit last night... just need to sew on million buttons, style the wig and make the leggings. Ill post pictures sometime next week after Ycon. I get a group for it~

My dogs seem spectacularly uninterested in what I've been working on for the past several hours, so I want to share my progress with people who will appreciate it! ^_^

This is my in-progress headpiece for Ciel's skull. I decided to make it match the costume we're doing, so it's black and red, and has lace and ribbon instead of the vine of thorns.

http://www.cosplay.com/photo/1739153/

It's not quite finished; I still need to add the chains to the front, and the veil isn't shredded yet. But you can still get the idea.

Very awesome. If my cos turns out to be even half as good as yours, I'd be satisfied :'D
Oh, and my signature..Haha, yeah..my mother's friends send some pretty amuzing things. x3

Annie-Wu:
Amazing Grell, The wig and everything is just perfect~
I'm still wondering how people can pull off Grell's expression.
Everytime I try, it makes my face rounder and I get forehead wrinkles, haha. XD
Can't wait to see the chainsaw 8D...

mini_kitten_o5
09-29-2008, 03:44 PM
Annie-Waru: Woah. You pulled off Grell's expression perfectly. Its like seeing Grell if he was an actual person. The location looks very nice too.

ycysusan2001: SUCH A PRETTY CIEL. *sparkley eyes of admiration* Plus you have Ciel's cane! And I agree with Xuki-kun, if my Ciel cosplay looks half as good as yours, I'll be happy. You have any tips for strawberry Ciel's outfit?

MegumiHime: Welcome to the thread! :) Yup, Ciel has many, many outfits. I wish you luck with Ciel's Anime Version!

Xuki-kun: How's your Ciel going? What DOES your signature say? (I can't read it at all, except for 'Dangerous')

I'm still trying to gather all the materials. I'm actually trying to make all 24 strawberries (not counting the giant one, unless I somehow find awesome stuffing, and I can't believe I counted all the strawberries of the area around Ciel), so far I have 12 of them. Basically 4 for the hat, the rest for props and giving them to people. And I saw these really pretty buttons, though they only came in packages of, four I think it was. And it was the last pack, so now I have to wait until the store gets new ones in.

Xuki-kun
09-29-2008, 04:22 PM
Mini Kitten: It sounds a bit weird in english, but it's kinda like playing around with english and chinese words.
In english "Dangerous" sounds like "Dan Jiao La Shh"
and that means single leggedly..uh..going to the bathroom, I shall say. XD

So basically my whole signature says:
"When I was in middle school, my english teacher was a very humorous person.
I remembered when he taught us the word 'dangerous'. Think about how dangerous it is to 'dan jiao la shh".

xD;

Ohh, and progress. I'm actually wearing a blonde wig right now, trying my top hat WIP on for size, haha. And to my dismay, I'm a bit short on black fabric. XP
I won't get very much finished today, since I have to figure out a 'battle plan'
for school tomorrow. [In other words, I need to rearrage my band/orchestra schedule for school and try to get my directors to get them changed for me..Bah.]

Making strawberries and giving them out to people sounds like a good idea. :'D

I'm also searching for a job..I need to buy myself a wig for Ciel = ='.
So, probably not a lot of progress coming from my side for the next week or two.

mini_kitten_o5, Xuki-kun: thank you~ Im sure you guys will make a good Ciel~~ TT Im too tall/old for that character... The cos didnt look as good as you seen in the picture... entire outfit is hold together by safety pin cause no time to sew in real buttonhole ^^;;; and I photoshop the picture too. I made a cane because my Grell want me to have one^^;; the crown on top fall down during the beginning of the photoshoot... the picture up there is from the later on of the photoshoot. Tip... um... the costume itself is pretty easy to sew... the hardest part is to match up the red collar part with costume... I defiantly fail to match the collar to the middle of the costume... maybe just the fabric that I use... not sure... another tip is that if you cant find the fabric... make it... the white and red ribbon on the costume I sew on each line on cause I cant find the right fabric that I want. Also for the ribbon on the hat, its better to match up with the red fabric in the cos.

http://www.square-enix.co.jp/magazine/gfantasy/phantomnight/night.html

Apparently there was a Kuroshitsuji event. With a room (http://www.square-enix.co.jp/magazine/gfantasy/phantomnight/photo.html) that looked like it was right out of the manga in video 1. That would have been a DREAM photoshoot location.

I was also wondering in this (http://www.square-enix.co.jp/magazine/gfantasy/phantomnight/images/ph04.jpg) photo, second to the right, bottom picture. Ciel has an outfit to me that looks like a cross between the fancy red one, and the strawberry one. Does anyone have any larger pictures of it?

Xuki-kun: Unreachable... such a sad truth! But I OFFICIALLY LOVE the manga-ka of Kuroshitsuji's blog.
http://blog-imgs-23.fc2.com/d/e/v/devils6/070427.png
TADA! THE ENTIRE BACK VIEW OF CIEL'S FANCY RED OUTFIT! With arrows pointing that I can't read. So now I know that the purple fabric is attatched, and finally understand the secret behind why Ciel's hat can lean at such an angle and not fall off. (Though sadly, more work for me now.)

http://devils6.blog22.fc2.com/ <--the link of the blog. Search through the pages, it has pictures of some of the outfits, from backviews etc. And an almost consistent hair color for Ciel.

Oh how I wish I could read Japanese. The manga-ka of Kuroshitsuji seems like such a fun person~

mini_kitten_o5
09-30-2008, 09:49 PM
The manga-ka of Kuroshitsuji does seem like a fun person~ She is apparently a fan of Hatsune Miku and Sephiroth as well. (A nendoroid Hatsune Miku, and a can with Sephiroth's face on it.) But above all, she is a person who FINALLY gave us all almost consistent pictures of Ciel's hair on her blog. It seems to look like a gray. (And the clothes designs from the back etc.) Though I wish I could read those notes she wrote on the outfit of Fancy Red Ciel.

EDIT: I'm also making Ciel's hat he wore in the costume where he was kissing the skull. I'll probably NEVER make that version (wayyy to hard) but making the hat is fun so far. Full sized top hat! If I complete it successfully in the future I'll make a tutorial for it from beginning to end. (Pictures and everything!)

Annie-Waru
10-02-2008, 08:22 AM
You can cheat by cutting the ribbon, pinching the center and then wrapping around it with another piece of ribbon. Then you make the tails of the ribbon and stick it behind.

...that probably makes no sense, so I'll make a drawing and edit this reply.

Xuki-kun: or just look at the pictures for references~

mini_kitten_o5: I like to tie my ribbon the normal way, instead of making it 3 pieces, cause it looks more natural. I suggest you try and tie it few time and eventually you'll find a way to tie it pretty. for example:

Please do, I don't mind chinese websites at all. At least now I know Ciel's outfit color is green. All this time I thought that one was blue. Sebastion really needs at least ONE more outfit. Your so helpful, THANK YOU.

I'm finally getting around to working on my Elizabeth costume. Its the one where she is sitting beside Ciel in plaid. I'm currently drawing out to crown shapes on her dress. That way I'll cut out a template, so I can simply fabric paint them on to the fabric later. (Re-drawing them one by one would be too much of a pain for me. I'm taking the lazy way out.) Still, have to finish all my costumes before December. Canadian Winter kills all my motivation. Though that means really pretty photoshoots. (White sparkley snow as far as the eye can see!)

Ren-no-suke: I really want to...depend if I can sneak out or not. Our Lou is talking about bringing it to ALA on Jan. Its a bit early to think about Fanime for us. Im gonna worry about ALA first ^^;;; Im trying to make another Ciel cos. You live in Norcal? and thank you for the Chinese forum~ Ill check it out~ I usually use Yam Blog and Cure to get some references, though its a little bit different from normal forum.

Xuki-kun: TT they did something that is not in manga... and I though... usually... manga is more bloody... but guess not...

^^;;; I just find out one of the costume (http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c112/ycysusan2001/Untitled-14copy.jpg) that I have for Ycon is exactly same style that the maid ware in Black Butler... just need the wig and some small changes... ^^ hehe~

Xuki-kun: Those aren't really a lot of languages, Vietnamese is the language my parents speak, English, Italian, French are all school forced. Doing homework is a nightmare (who makes a kid thats 5 start learning 3 other languages?!) Though right now they aren't useful, unless Ciel starts sprouting out French words, or some other language I know.

Ren-no-suke: If I have any problems I will definitely ask!

Unlock: Your Grell's chainsaw made my jaw drop. It looks so realistic.

MegumiHime: I'm stuck without a Sebastion too. Though now that I'm stuck short (sad truth) it should be much easier finding a Sebastion for me. I wish you luck!

Ycysusan: More dreams of all Ciel's outfits are further drifing away. Though the circus one looks pretty simple. Striped shirt, ruffles, vest, bow, balloon type pants (I have a pair almost exactly like that in light blue, I'll just de-assemble it and I've got a pattern if I want.) Suspenders, and some fabric off the side with feathers. And a fancy hat.

The one where he pretends to be a servant can be closet for me if I want. (Steal brother's communion dress shirt, make some alterations, a vest underneath, dress shirt, and simple black capris.)

Though how come Sebastion's outfit still never changes?! He needs more than a tailcoat.

Waah, I love Kuroshitsuji~<3
I got Ciel's ring + eyepatch (official merchandise) for my birthday, so I'm going to be cosplaying the outfit Ciel wears in vol 1 when he dances with Lizzie~
And eventually I wanna cosplay his red outfit or the skull outfit from chapter 13. *_*

I'm just really nervous I won't make a good Ciel. >_< I'll be cosplaying him at Otakon 09 with a Sebastian~<3 (...that is more than a foot taller than me, ahahaha)

Does anyone know of any tutorials to make a hat like Ciel's? :x I can't find mini-top-hat bases that are the correct size - they're all usually too big or too little so I guess I'll have to make one from scratch...

mini_kitten_o5

KitsuneSqueak: Welcome to the Kuroshitsuji thread! All of your cosplay are REALLY pretty so I think you'd make a great Ciel! (Make sure to take photos.) Eh?! You have a Sebastion?! Lucky lucky lucky. I'm stuck without a Sebastion right now since most of my friends are around my height. (A very short height too. Lets just say below 5'5, because then at least 5'5 makes me feel tall.) And such awesome birthday gifts! The ring and eyepatch, lucky. I'll be cosplaying as Elizabeth AND Ciel.

As for tutorials,
http://fetishfaerie-stock.deviantart.com/art/Mini-Top-Hat-Tutorial-79563375

http://idzit.deviantart.com/art/Top-Hat-Tutorial-1-81296461

http://idzit.deviantart.com/art/Top-Hat-Tutorial-2-81296603 (http://idzit.deviantart.com/art/Top-Hat-Tutorial-2-81296603)

Those ones sure did help me. (Though sometimes I alter the size a bit.)
I would've just bought one, but all the ones I could find were plastic, and its more fun to make one myself.

MegumiHime: Yup, life is limited when you're short. (Wanted to do Sebastion as well, but he is pretty tall, and even with platforms I'm still pretty darn short. So I opted for Elizabeth as my second Kuroshitsuji cosplay option besides Ciel.)

*laugh* And we have the opposite situation. I'm 5' 4", playing Sebastian, and my Ciel is 5' 7"! I'm wearing four-inch heels with my costume, but even so that barely makes us even -- and Ciel has a tall hat, too. susan: I bought mine from Animax, though it was the last one. x: It's the Japanese equivalent of a size 7 ring (I think it's Japanese size 13?) - it's too big for my other fingers, but perfect for my thumb. XD (I have thin pianist fingers x:) As far as I know, that's the only size.

Anyone have any idea on where else Ciel's ring might be available? Because right now:
http://www.animestuffstore.com/kuroshitsuji-cosplay-ring-c-3676-p-1-pr-12120.html
is all I found. (Its about double the price of Animaxis, which is sold out.) Though for some odd reason I'm out to get the key chains, though I have no keys for it what so ever. (Is this the power of brainwash?)

And on a more fabric note. I have pieces of fabric all over my room right now. In particularily, navy blue, and green. Any idea where to get silver fox tails (faux)? I'm already partially done the hat where Ciel was kissing the skull. Its just the fox tails I can't find.

Annnd, that ring! It's so expensive.
[To me, at least] I guess I'll be making my own. xP

Unlock: WOW. I'm really impressed! Your chainsaw looks really good!~

Ren-no-suke: Right now its halloween season so there are plenty of chainsaws available at stores. Then I guess you should just spray paint the handle red, and make some alterations if you want.

Xuki-kun: Yup, Ciel's name in french means "Sky." I hope Ciel starts spouting French, I'll be able to understand then.

ycysusan2001: This (http://i251.photobucket.com/albums/gg284/mini_kitten_o5/cielcoloredcircus.jpg) is the colors I chose for circus Ciel. (Though I'm not sure whether to get shiny red fabric for the pants or not). For the other characters perhaps bright colors? Such as bright red, pink, orange, yellow, blue etc. Since every time I see circus the outfits are always really bright and colorful. The guy that is dressed like a clown in the first panel I was thinking of a Red and Yellow color scheme. I love your strawberry Ciel cosplay and is still in awe on how well you cosplayed Ciel to this very moment.

MegumiHime: I love the look of the community! (I would join but my parents are iffy about me faxing my info to them to confirm my age. So my account can't post nothing.)

I'll probably do a shoot sometime as soon as I'm done the outfits. (I'm alternating between them. Its my method of preventing procrastination, get bored with one, work on the other.) Though I won't be wearing them to a con until March maybe, or Anime North. (I'm sorry, Canada is very cold now, I'm not going to a convention in shorts.) Hopefully my parents won't take me to the annual visit grandma in Minnesota trip during March break next year, that way I can go to the con in March!

Anyone have any idea on where else Ciel's ring might be available?

You might keep an eye out on eBay, but I don't think the price will be any better. The Kuroshitsuji merch I've seen there has been really overpriced.

I made a ring for my Ciel this evening, but it's not remotely accurate. I just took apart a ring I'd made for a previous (now retired) cosplay and set a big marquis-cut stone in the setting. (If we ever decide to compete with these costumes, I'll sculpt and cast the real one, but for now I'm too busy to put that much time/effort into a Sunday cosplay.) ^_^

Any idea where to get silver fox tails (faux)? I'm already partially done the hat where Ciel was kissing the skull. Its just the fox tails I can't find.

Well, I know where to get *real* silver fox tails... but the last time I tried to sell any fur on this site I got massively flamed, so I won't go there. -_-; There are numerous stores online where you can buy faux tails; you can search Google for them. You can also make your own by sewing a pear-shaped tube of furry fabric and stuffing it with polyester fiberfill or fabric.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding, but in the picture where he's kissing the skull, aren't the things on his hat long feathers, like pheasant or phoenix rooster? You can buy those at craft stores like Hobby Lobby and Michael's. I'm completely missing the fox tails, assuming I'm looking at the right picture...

Thank you for the help :) Heheheh, I'm afraid about real silver fox tails because I get a mild rash when I touch dogs and cats, so I'm afraid I'll get a rash if I touch fox fur too. If I don't find some faux fox tails in stores, I'll use the sewing method like you suggested. (Still has extra stuffing from stuffing strawberries.)

To me they look like fox tails. I colored (http://i251.photobucket.com/albums/gg284/mini_kitten_o5/foxtail.jpg) the picture. The lighter colored gray means where I think its fox tails. Because they have those odd lines in manga that they use to show fur. Where as the ones that I see feathers I used a darker gray.

EDIT

Ycysusan2001: At Animaxis they have Ciel's pin, thing, and on the second image, they have a bigger image of Ciel's grey outfit. http://www.animaxis.com/en/shop/product.asp?sku=150413-00

Oh, now I see what you mean. I was looking at a scan, but when I pulled out the actual manga I could see the detail much better. But the ones on the hat seem a little small to be fox tails; perhaps they're meant to be mink or ermine? Small fur details like that were often used for decoration on coats, hats, muffs, etc. (Ermine was generally reserved for royalty or really, really rich people... although this is Ciel we're talking about, so... ^_^) Whatever the furry things are, there are also larger ones hanging around the pannier and bustle -- which makes absolutely no sense to me, but they're in the picture.

Hmm. Looking at that picture, I've just realized that I already own a ring very similar to the one on Ciel's left hand (my grandfather's 1924 class ring, which fits perfectly with the antique-found-object theme of my costume). That's another item crossed off the to-do list!

Oh, and I've just finished my tea service prop for Sebastian. I thought it would be fun to carry one around the con for photos. ^_^

Ermine, rich people, may suit Ciel, but I'm of the species known as poor from buying fabric to cosplay Ciel.

I just went to Fabricland moments ago. As I was depressed looking for more fabric (lack of money from buying fabric kind of does that to you), and was about to give up. A light from the heavens (Fabricland lights) shone done on a particular part of the store. A spot where there was a coat on display that looked EXACTLY like Ciel's. (The anime version, the green one, the gray one, and the ones shown on volume beginnings.) So I quickly took out a pen and wrote down the pattern used. It was only modified a little bit though. And here it is:

http://www.voguepatterns.com/item/V1266.htm

So I hope it helps any more people who are planning to cosplay Ciel!

L.u.c.k.y. I'm just de-assembling a ring I recieved a year ago, messing around a bit, and trying to imitate Ciel's ring. I'm planning to make it look only slightly like Ciel's ring so that in pictures it will look like I'm wearing it. (I'll just hide it a little bit in pictures so people can't notice the details.)

The tea service set looks amazing! Though the tea cup on the right looks kind of expensive...did you glue it down?

Ermine, rich people, may suit Ciel, but I'm of the species known as poor from buying fabric to cosplay Ciel.

Oh, I can understand that. On the other hand, a half-yard of white Halloween-clearance-sale faux fur and a black fabric marker can produce decent fake ermine... ^_^

Lovely! Thanks for posting the pattern number. I think that pattern would also work for Sebastian's overcoat (the one he tries to offer Ciel during the stakeout in vol. 2). Another good place to look for patterns is thrift stores, which often have bins of old sewing patterns for 25 or 50 cents each. I've picked up several older (1980's-vintage) patterns at the local D.A.V store that are possible candidates for Ciel. One is a women's double-breasted suit pattern, similar to Ciel's anime jacket design, and another is an '80s-style dress with the pleated-bustle-ruffle-thing that's on the back of many of Ciel's coats. (If anyone wants the numbers I'll post them, though they're probably out of print.)

The tea service set looks amazing! Though the tea cup on the right looks kind of expensive...did you glue it down?

Oh, no, none of it is expensive! My mother adores silver and has a large collection of vintage service pieces, so I couldn't bring myself to use anything real or valuable as a cosplay prop (although she did offer to let me use her rare silver decanter in a photoshoot if I wanted... <3 ). All of the metal in the tea service is stainless; it's not even silverplate. Although the tea cup and saucer look nice and have gold edging, they're machine-printed reproductions. I haunted my local thrift store for weeks to find pieces that looked good but were expendable. ^_^ I also managed to attach it all with non-permanent adhesive (lots of double-sided poster tape and transparent packing tape), so all the pieces can be removed if I ever want to salvage them.

So! This evening (last night, now), I went to my cousin's annual Pumpkin Carving party. My sister and I always use this event as an excuse to cosplay, and since it was too cold to wear the bare-shoulder costume I'd been planning on, I decided to give Sebastian a trial run before Youmacon. I also took my camera along. So... (drumroll) ...here are new Sebastian pictures! :D

http://www.cosplay.com/gallery/129994/

In the end, I was really glad I went as Sebastian, which is a costume with lots of layers and a wool coat and pants. The party was mostly outdoors, and it's starting to get cold at night here in the Midwest...

I always had a feeling that Ciel had a good fashion sense.

Donfoxy: Welcome to the Kuroshitsuji cosplay thread! That outfit was love at first sight for me too, but I have no guts to make it besides the hat. (I'll stick to working on the fancy red one, and strawberry one, and circus one, plus a couple others, and Elizabeth.) Yup, I saw a couple people use blue and silver as the color scheme for that one. Though I think a black color scheme would be nice, with a white shirt underneath. Actually a red and black color scheme would look nice too, especially after seeing the picture of AVAAntares viel/ hat thingie for Ciel's pet skull.

I got REALLY lucky at the fabric store today, black fabric, 1 dollar a meter, buy one meter get second meter free. So basically, 1 dollar for 2 meters! :D Gosh I love Halloween sales. Though I'm stumped, the sleeves for Elizabeth's outfit, the one where she is giving Ciel that chocolate thingie (its a green outfit), I have no idea what pattern to use for the sleeve. Any help?

I'll be basically visiting a circus and learning a bunch of circus stuff. (I'm preparing to faint now.)

And those are some NICE color schemes for the other 2 circus people. I wish you luck with your circus group! Though I wonder why Sebastian never got a new outfit...

I want to do a Grell cosplay badly now. *has a thing for psychotic characters in snappy suits* Not to mention the Undertaker *also has a thing for cool hats*

Though I think I'll end up making a Madame Red, in the color spread... those heels look awesome.

Grell is as phychotic as it gets~ And Undertaker's hat is pretty cool. It would be awesome if you cosplayed either of them. Though Madame Red is awesome too!

Well, at the last day of Joann's Moonlight Madness sale, I've gotten 6 yards of this lovely blood red Casa satin for Madame Red's dress, as well as a perfect pattern. I'll be taking a few liberties with the skirt, I think. Because the pattern came with this very lovely formfitting to the knees skirt that then flows out to create a really nice train. I think that was an actual Victorian pattern called a Trumpet skirt.

Also, I picked up some corduroy for Grell's vest. I think I can make the Undertaker with fabric I have stockpiled at home. *crosses fingers*

Edit: This is the pattern I'm going to use. I need to add a ruffle to both the bottom of the corset and the skirt (the one with the train).

I'm planning on cosplaying Ciel for the next London Expo in May, I do believe 8D;;. I have absolutely NO sewing ability (I can do modifications, but ask me to actually sew an entire outfit!? Nah, no can do XD), so I'm planning on doing with the simplest of his outfits, in which I can just buy the clothing items, and then do minor mods, like sewing on ribbons and patches XDD. To justify my lack of ability, I was probably going to go two days and wear two different outfits, just so I can say "Well, I might not be able to sew, but at least I could put together two outfits!"...xD;;.

Hopefully that doesn't come across as lazy to anyone D:!? It sure beats that time I was L...(Though to be frank, I did put in SO much more effort in my eyeliner than 99% of L cosplayers oaislahaksgb).

Just a question. Do you think it's a better idea to get a white wig and dye it, or a black wig and dye it, or a silver/grey wig and die it lightly, in order ot get Ciel's silvery-blue colour? I'm at a complete loss at what base to get, haha.

Good luck to everyone working on the more intricate cosplays - I admire your dedication and wish I had your skills 8D!

I say go with a silver/grey wig and dye it lightly. Since a black wig, you can't get it any lighter. So no matter what you do, you will always have a black wig. White wig...not so sure.

I just learned to sew a while ago to be honest. (I'm still pretty lame, I bug my mom to help with the more difficult parts.) If you can't really sew, may I reccomend Ciel's Paper Boy (http://i251.photobucket.com/albums/gg284/mini_kitten_o5/paperboyciel.jpg) version? Its pretty much a black button up shirt (The anime version, from the next episode preview seems to have a white shirt), a brown vest, and jean capris with ripped knees, and a mushroom hat. And an eyepatch. All simple items you can simply buy. And perhaps make some modifications to the vest if it isn't just right. Heres (http://i251.photobucket.com/albums/gg284/mini_kitten_o5/paperboyciel-1.jpg) a colored version I got off the manga-ka's blog. Hope this helps~

Thanks so much for the tip XD! Looks like sharpie dyeing a silver/grey wig it is~! I'm thinking if I used a white one, then the colour might come out too bright anyway >_<;;.

And haha, that was precisely the outfit I was going to work on, considering I own a hat in the very style already XD. The anime just enjoys messing with us, clearly. First they darken his hair than what we expected, then they play with colours 8(.

Thanks for the advice though <3!

ycysusan2001: Haha, I know that, but I want to somehow feel like I made it myself, I guess. If I just bought a costume, it wouldn't really feel like it's my costume XD. At the very least, even if I didn't sew my outfit but just put it together with bought items, it'll feel like I at least exerted some of my own creativity towards it by picking the clothes to put together...? I think I don't make any sense XD.

I just bought the jeans and the shirt I needed for my Paper Boy outfit though XD! Gotta love Ebay 8). I also realised I can use my new black shirt for an alternative to my Mikami of Death Note cosplay, yay! What a bargain 8D. I'll work on modifying it slowly, since I have until May XDD. I'm just wanting it done before my exams, so that if anything, I know I can spare the weekend in May to go to the Expo instead of fussing over stuff when I know I have university exams XD;;.

Looks like I'm stopping by all the charity shops when I'm in town tomorrow to buy a mug and go to the bank 8D! Gotta find myself that brown waistcoat/vest I need oaihflgkasdf. I can't seem to find a right one!

Always start lighter and go darker by shades. It's possible to highlight a wig, but it's time-consuming, and can be difficult to do well.

You can also just buy a wig that comes in the right color, depending on how much you want to spend. I saw the *perfect* Ciel wig on eBay a couple weeks ago -- it was a deep grey, almost exactly the color shown in the anime, and was even the style of Ciel's hair. But it was $40, so (being basically cheap people) we bought a $20 longer, lighter grey wig instead, which I am dyeing and cutting to look like Ciel's. ^_^

I'm pretty happy with the way the coloring came out; I used blue and black permanent marker to color individual strands all throughout the wig, which gives it the right color with the nice effect of a blended fiber wig. I'll try to get some photos up soon. (If nothing else, we'll be wearing our Kuroshitsuji costumes at Youmacon this weekend, so we'll get photos there.)

I just hit eBay, out of curiosity. These wouldn't be too far off from Ciel's color:

example 1 (http://cgi.ebay.com/Charcoal-Grey-Gray-Short-Style-Wig-wigs_W0QQitemZ370099531448QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item 370099531448&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1205|66%3A2|65%3A12|39%3A1|240%3A13 18)

...Especially that second one. I love the color of that one!

The exact Ciel-shade of blue is really hard to come by x_x;;. His hair's kind of off-blue, like...greenish, but not really terribly green. ARGH IT'S JUST AN ANNOYING SHADE XD.

I'm debating about making Ciel's Red with Roses version, however I have a question:

Should I alter the neckline so I could bind normally or keep the accurate low neckline, in which case, how would I um...conceal? *am not that good at binding at all in the first place*

The fabric is looking very expensive ^^"

Amiya: Welcome to the Kuroshitsuji Cosplay thread! I'm not sure how to go about the neckline either, so for mine I'm altering it. (I stink at binding.)

The fabric shall kill the wallet. (I should know...) At Fabricland, I saw the perfect fabric for Ciel's Red with Roses version...it was around $21 (or was it $28?) a meter. The good thing is though the perfect fabric for underneath the red coat thingie, was on sale for $1 a meter, buy one meter get second meter free. :D And its Halloween season! SALE SEASON

Oh man, I just got into this series and I love all the outfits from it. I want to do so many of Ciel's outfits, but they'd all be so expensive to do accurately. @____@; I especially want to do the blue and gold striped outfit, but that'd involve velvet and taffeta and a ridiculous amount of work. It'll happen eventually. >___<

For now I just picked up a bunch of pink silk shantung for super cheap to do the party dress from chapter 7/8. I'm super excited to start working on it. X3 Just need to find the same fabric in white and I'm golden~

Quick question:

Does anyone know the official heights or three sizes of any characters in Kuroshitsuji, especially Ciel and Sebastian? I tried looking it up on Wikipedia Japan and official info sites, but no avail. I want to say that Sebastian is definitely over 183cm and Ciel looks...under 150cm.

monochroma
10-29-2008, 06:17 AM
^ I don't think official heights exist, because I don't remember coming across them ever x_x;;. I would say that Sebastian might be around 180-ish. Ciel tends to make him look taller just because he's tiny 8D!?

ultimaaa: Hello! And good luck with Ciel's pink dress. Now with the anime out you can see even more views of it. (Episode 4):)

Li Jianliang: I have to agree with monochroma, I don't think the heights were ever revealed. Though the one thing I know for sure is that Sebastian is taller than Ciel, and that Ciel in comparison is tiny.

On other news, my photoshoot senses are tingling. IT JUST SNOWED. Everything is in a nice blanket of snow. Gotta work faster now! (Its still October...) And Elizabeth's outfit in the anime before she danced with Ciel was, ORANGE. And then after it was red, pink, and white. Though now I have more views of the outfit since its the anime. And apparently Ciel's suit stays the same every episode, but the color changes.

I'm kinda worried that con goers with think I'm too short to pull off Sebastian. Also I would have to get a wig made for me since I'm horrible at stuff for costumes.

Well, I'm only 5'4" and I cosplay Sebastian. Granted, I wear 4" heels to do it... but as long as you proportion your costume correctly for your body, height won't matter.

My Ciel is actually 5'7", so it's an adventure to set up photos with appropriate height ratios. Fortunately, Ciel is often seen sitting down... ^_^

Okay, this is sort of unrelated to anything..but if the Kuroshitsuji fandom explodes beacuse of the anime and becomes the next Death Note, Vampire Knight..or something, my heart is going to break.

My top hat is looking pretty good right now. My fingers, not so much. I have a real bad hot glue gun, it drips all the time, and it heats up alot. (The part where I'm supposed to hold it.) So my fingers have a couple of burns. I still can't figure out how to make the raspberries. I am honestly thinking of getting real ones, and when its time to use the hat, just stick them in there. So, do you have any idea of how to make the little raspberries?

It's too bad that, though with good reason, while Ciel as multiple outfits to choose from, Sebastian only have a handful and they're not that different from each other. Well, he is a butler after all.

I'm planning on cosplaying Sebastian. A friend is planning on Grell (her friend might be Madam Red). There could be more if our convincing powers work. I'm looking for a Ciel to be the obedient butler to since our Ciel candidate.. has monetary problems as of late. (Trying to talk her into doing his paperboy version) -Chuckle-

I'm making another one (without the hair) with a hangman's noose sooner or later and I'll try to refine the pattern and get it up somewhere. I'm not terribly worried about the blood though I'll do a few experiments with paint to see what happens. I used stretch velvet to make the first set though linen/rough cotton/burlap/canvas would probably have been a better choice (think Oogie Boogie from Nightmare Before Christmas).

Also a very sincere thanks to everyone who likes 'em. Grell would so fit into a Tim Burton flick, wouldn't he?

And Xuki-kun, I have a feeling that Kuroshitsuji is probably not going to have a fan explosion. Just a good sized but fairly intimate insane lot of fans like us. ^___^

Le-Sai: In the anime and manga the color differs. By that I mean on the manga-ka's blog, (the old one before it moved, and all old pictures were deleted, mentioning that I'll upload the back view I saved from that blog to the front page of Ciel's Fancy Red Roses outfit.) it was black shirt, brown vest, and jeans. Here (http://i251.photobucket.com/albums/gg284/mini_kitten_o5/paperboyciel-1.jpg) is the picture. And any one have any ideas on how to organize the pictures on the first post to make them neater and easier to navigate?

EDIT: Apparently the vol 21 of Dengeki Layers has a Kuroshitsuji Sebastion pattern? "Comes with Cool "Kuro Shitsuji" Sebastian Pattern!" Quoted from Akadot Retail (http://www.akadot.com/product_info.php?products_id=27132&cPath=27_4). Are their pattern's usually good? Xuki-kun: I just go to Michaels for ribbons, and foam board. (I use foam board for the little top hats instead of cardboard, I find it more sturdy.) I guess I'll be going to Michaels and hunting down some raspberries then! (The ones I tried to make out of felt, didn't look so good. Though I could practically make the strawberries with my eyes closed by now.) Ciel look, eh? My left half shall be the chipper Elizabeth look I'll be using, and my right half shall be the Ciel look I'll be using then! You can always re-use your bunny you used for Usa-chan in your Hunny cosplay as a bunny from Ciel's company. (He made toys, and in a chapter a kid wanted a new bunny that Ciel made.)

Fabricland is EVIL. They tempted me with a table, with all of the right colors for Kuroshitsuji Cosplays. They had orange, and white for Elizabeth's first outfit. Red, Pink, and white for Elizabeth's second outfit. Green and black, and red and black, for Ciel's suits he wears in the anime. Pink, black, and white for Ciel's dress. Black and red for Ciel's strawberry outfit, and just about the perfect colors for ALL of Ciel's outfits. And ALL of this was on one table, and that table just happened to be the one with the sales. So now I am working on a bunch of outfits once again. Making ruffles by hand for Elizabeth is evil.

Ycysusan2001, did you use any patterns as a base for Ciel's strawberry outfit?

I'm really tempted to do a Kuroshitsuji cosplay now, with all the boystyle, aristocratic and party dresses they have shown in both manga and anime it was instant love. xD

Mainly interested in Ciel's party dress, Meiling and Grell. And wouldn't have to worry about a Sebastian, just need to cut up that hair of his since he refuses to wear a wig. Pfft.

Oh yeah! If anyone is curious for random tutorials/pattern I found a bunch.

I need help again.
My Sebastien and I are having a dispute about Ciel's hair.
D:

We have settled that his correct hair colour is most likely a dark grey...so she's been sending me links to wigs I could use...but they all looked terrible...and honest to say...most Ciel cosplays I've seen using grey hair don't look good.
She got mad at me when I asked if I could just go with black....and she was like "Nuuuuuuuuu!"

So...I need help finding a GOOD wig that'd make both of us happy for my Ciel cosplay.
My Sebastien is quite picky.

Le-Sai: I think the best way to go about Ciel's hair is dying it. Its shade is pretty complicated because it changes all the time. So maybe since you suggested black, and her dark grey, you can compromise with something like a dark navy perhaps? Get a silver/grey wig and dye it. The way I'm going to make the wig now is a light blue shade. I saw a cosplayer on Curecos use a gorgeous colored wig for their Ciel cosplay, so I'm going to get a silver/grey wig and dye it to that shade. This (http://en.curecos.com/profile/?id=246426) is the cosplayer I'm talking about.

Interesting...I just feel anything brighter than a dark dark grey looks weird.

So....hopefully we can find a dark dark grey wig.

mini_kitten_o5: There is several patterns you can use. For me I just dig out what I already have and puzzle it together. I used Mccall's M5524 for the base of the coat and Simplicity 5872 for the sleeves. Though I was looking through the patter book in fabric store the other day I saw in the costume section there is a World War I/II man's costume patter that is perfect for Strawberry Ciel. I forgot what number is it, but Ill check the number again next weekend if you want to know that exact number.

AVAAntares: Sebastion wore amazing heels (http://i251.photobucket.com/albums/gg284/mini_kitten_o5/amazingheels.jpg)once. So, instant height boost?!

Hey, good point! ^_^ I've even seen those boots for sale. Of course, those heels aren't that much taller than the platform boots I'm using now... (Sorry, I'm so far behind on this thread... I need to skim the last 20 posts or so and catch up!)

Just got back from Youmacon about 45 minutes ago... I spent a good portion of the day as Sebastian, which was loads of fun (and very warm, since most of my costume is wool). I was surprised at how many people recognized the characters, although poor Ciel was mistaken for everything from J-rock to Cain Hargreaves.

We did a neat photoshoot with Ciel, Sebastian and Grell, which I will post a link to as soon as Elemental gets her photos up. ^_^

I definately will be waiting to see those pictures. To be completely honest, I first got into Kuroshitsuji when I saw this amazing cosplay of Ciel, and wondered, "What series was this?" so after 2 days of searching, I found Kuroshitsuji. Then when I saw the manga I thought, older Mukuro butler, and mini Cain Hargreaves? Though now I can see there are definate differences between them.

It looks pretty accurate, though I'm pretty sure Sebastian's vest is a more purple shade.
And silverware would be an awesome prop. :D

Yes please. At the Fabricland I go to, the only patterns I managed to find in their pattern books were mostly gowns and dresses. So far, I'm going to use a kind of pleated skirt like pattern and connect it with the top for the bottom part of the top, and use the sash things to cover up some things if I kind of mess up.

And my Ciel hat is finally almost done. (I sewed 32 strawberries, 3 for the hat, rest for props.) Just needs to get the raspberries and cut out the leaves now!

Elemental: You guys look really good! :'D
It's almost midnight where I live right now, and my brain isn't working well and I can't come up with anything to describe you guys with,
They just made me pretty happy though, when I woke up and saw those pictures. :3~
Keep up the good work!~

-------

As of right now, my dad has four friends over, and they've been talking all night.
That means no sleep for me...(MAN then talk loud. They're all the way in another room, but it's almost like they're conversing right into my ear.
Ohhh wonderful, now I just dropped my camera's memory card somewhere..it has my progress pictures on it. I've been having the most terrible week and it's made me rather grumpy like Ciel is all the time. >:/

Anyways, I just found the memory card..

..polystyrene foam raspberries I found a few days ago at Michaels: http://i155.photobucket.com/albums/s298/XukiChan/DSC00289.jpg

They're not as pink as they appear in that picture though~

And a picture of my incomplete top hat...
http://i155.photobucket.com/albums/s298/XukiChan/DSC00292.jpg
I think I'm going to remake the whole thing when I get the time to, it looks pretty terrible, Also..I have that ruffle thing because I completely ran out of the fabric I used to make the top hat (I had barely enough to cover the outside =w=)
and I couldn't cover the bottom..so Whalah!
Ehh..please excuse my dusty table. D:

I'll be trying to sleep now, because I hate to be awake during Dead Time.
(and I haven't gotten any proper sleep this whole week and it's murdering my health../rant)

EDIT: LOLOL, it's impossible to sleep, so I think I'll just rant some more then..Okay, so my father is really worried about his self-image and stuff, so when he heard that his friends from Illinois (I think it was illinois)
were coming to visit, he completely revamped the house. e__e;;
Out of the blue, after I come home from school, there's a big round..Clock table..and he's replaced all of the curtains with new Roman shades and this semi-transparent (can't think of what it's called right now) uhh, outer curtain thing. He completely re-arranged all of the furniture in the house, and bought new lamps and some more clocks. What do I end up with? A very Kuroshitsuji-esque living room, family room, master bedroom, even the bathrooms were re-done..but MY room has stayed the same. D8>
Maybe I should take some pictures of those rooms and show you guys.
I never knew before this that my dad liked 'Victorian' furniture.

-----
EDIT2:

Mini Kitten: thanks so much for the idea of re-using Usa-chan~ :'D
Eh, let's see, I have tons of Pink fabric left, so maybe I'll make another one sometime, my current one's Ears are too floppy~

Just got into this anime. I want to cosplay as Undertaker so damn badly!

Undertaker! If you do decide to cosplay him, I don't mind trying to dig up some pictures of Undertaker for you.

Xuki-kun: I know how you feel. When my parents have their friends over, they're always so loud. I shut the door in my room on the second floor and I can still hear them talking. And they're in the basement with the door closed!

I haven't been getting proper sleep either. The teacher gives so many projects. Have to make a music video, a book report, a geography project, and tons more stuff. And they're basically all due in the same week. (There hasn't been a week so far without a test or project since the beginning of the school year.) Hey, at least if this keeps up perhaps I can cosplay L from Death Note without eyeliner soon~

My parents re-vamped the house last summer. 'Cause my aunt and stuff from the states were coming over. Except, they made the house more modern. :sulk: They think victorian themed houses are creepy. (Honestly, my unfinished basement before could have been nice for a darker themed photo shoot of Kuroshitsuji, but nope, now it has a 52 inch LCD tv, and its all light blue-ish purple, with a message chair, and leather sofas. Why couldn't they just go with my idea of beige and red.) Though my house would be kind of nice for a circus themed photo shoot now. My mom enjoyed choosing paints from the Disney type ones for some reason. My living room is Tinkerbell green. The kitchen, this weird disney yellow. And so on. (CIRCUS?!) I will get my victorian furniture though. My mom said, "As soon as your sister stops playing with all those toys and messing up the house, we are definately re-decorating. I will get my way... Though please do take pictures. I want to see the nice victorian themed-ness. Heres a picture of my basement (http://i251.photobucket.com/albums/gg284/mini_kitten_o5/basement01.jpg). Once again (http://i251.photobucket.com/albums/gg284/mini_kitten_o5/basement02.jpg).

I'm pretty much done the strawberry mini top hat. (Just need the raspberries.) I'll post pictures of it later on.

Undertaker references would help me too~ I've decided to move Undertaker up on my want-to-cosplay list, though I wouldn't even know where to start with his outfit. And one of my biggest dilemmas is not knowing what color to do his outfit in...there isn't any colored manga artwork of him is there? I know I could go with the anime's brown clothes, but when I read the manga his outfit just seemed to be black. Anyone have any idea what would colors would work/look best?

DONE! I made one of those huge collage like sheets. Warning: they are 1000 px by 1000 px. So they're huge. But they basically have everything the manga/anime shows of him. (Side, close up, back etc.) His anime version looks black, and grey really. And he has an ring too~ I'll make screenshots of the anime version of Ciel's dress, Elizabeth, Sebastion, Madame Red, Grell and stuff soon.

I'm glad the collage thingies could be useful~ If anyone needs me to make any more of them for any character, just ask. I'll prioritize. :)

On a sadder note for me, the glue from my glue gun, killed my mini strawberry top hat beyond saving. So I had to start all over. From the beginning. (Darn you drippy glue gun!) Though now I just made most of my top hat over again, and it looks much better! (I'm also glad I made so many prop strawberries, at least now I don't have to re-sew those again.) The method I used to re-make my mini top hat was much easier too~ If any one wants I could make a tutorial how. (I swear, tis so easy a monkey can make it if it tried enough.)

Wolfmasterifrit: I wish I was American right now, and could go to Katsucon. But sadly I'm Canadian, and airplane tickets and hotels are expensive. I hope your plan succeeds, everyone loves a demon butler!

Hmm, now that I think about it, the way I used was basically the way from the two deviant art tutorials with a few changes. So look at them :

http://fetishfaerie-stock.deviantart.com/art/Mini-Top-Hat-Tutorial-79563375
http://idzit.deviantart.com/art/Top-Hat-Tutorial-1-81296461

Though my advice would be, for the height of your top hat, cut out your bristol board, with an inch or two overlapping. Mark where they overlap. Place it on your fabric, and trace out the shape of it. Until the point where they overlap. Make only the height of it taller by 1 inch on both sides. Cut it out. Tape your top hat bristol board together. Put glue on the one inch extras, and glue it on to the top hat. Its hard to explain but easy to do.

When connecting your top part of the top hat, and your height of your top hat together, sew them together. If you use glue, there might be gaps, and it'll make it look ugly.

Sorry if I made it sound confusing.

If anyone is doing Ciel's Halloween Pirate outfit. A PERFECT PATTERN EXISTS.

I'm going to use for the top part of the strawberry outfit:
http://www.mccallpattern.com/item/M4745.htm <--That for the top part of the strawberry outfit (Some alterations)
A pleated skirt design for the bottom part (some alterations)

What? there was a Kuroshitsuji shoot at Youmacon? How in the world did I end up missing it?

We ended up doing just a private shoot of our group (the three in the photos). I tried to set up a group Kuroshitsuji shoot, but when I posted on the Youmacon forums, the only responses I got were along the lines of, "I've never heard of that series... what is it?"

We'll be at Ohayocon next, if you'll be there. We'll be wearing Kuroshitsuji on Sunday.

Its so pretty!~ Sebastion with cutlery! Is your Ciel really taller than you? 'Cause it looks like its the other way around! Theres even Grell!

Oh, she's definitely taller than me! I'm wearing 4" heels to balance out our height (you can see them in some photos). And Elemental is a brilliant photographer, and she arranged the photos well to make Ciel look short.

Your house might work better than you think! You can do a whole lot by setting up your camera angles and framing carefully... I've done so many "period" photoshoots in suburban settings -- you just have to make sure to keep the power lines out of the photos. ^_^

My house was built in 1942 (which means I freeze in winter, because the walls are solid and have no insulation), but because it's not in a modern style, that makes it pretty versatile for photos and videos. We did a spur-of-the-moment video shoot in my living room (which I instantly converted into an Asian teahouse) and basement (which I quickly arranged into a back alley/industrial setting) for one of my sister's short training films. (If anyone cares, it's here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S-c3VDkiMxM).)

I am planning on doing a more Victorian-themed photoshoot at some point, though; my entire house is furnished with antiques, as is my parents', so I have access to a lot of furniture that looks like it came straight out of the Kuroshitsuji manga. ^_^

I wish I was American right now, and could go to Katsucon. But sadly I'm Canadian, and airplane tickets and hotels are expensive.

What part of Canada are you in? I have several acquaintances who come down from Canada every year for conventions in Michigan and Ohio. Maybe you could find someone in your area to ride with, and just split the cost of gas money? (Then again, your parents might not be comfortable with your going off for a weekend with strangers, which is understandable...)

I, myself, am planning to cosplay Sebastian next year. Although, for any of my future walk-ons, I'm not sure what to do as Sebastian which will really catch the judges' and audiences' attention . Any thoughts?

!Dramatic Action Poses! are always a good option. ^_^ Off the top of my head, here's what I would do: Walk a third of the way across the stage, and strike the volume 3 cover pose with some shiny plastic flatware. Pause for photos. Then go another third of the way across, and check the time on your flashy pocket-watch. Pause for photos again. Bow slightly as you replace the watch, then walk off stage.

I just starting seeing this series too, and I want to cosplay Ciel soooo badly.... I just don't know which outfit of him should I cosplay!! XD I would want to do a cool one, but one not so complicated since my sewing experience is not great... any suggestions?

I'm going to see if I can get my bf to cosplay as sebastian! That would be sooo cool...

ChibiTenshi: depend if you want to do the anime form or manga form. Most of the anime form is pretty easy. You can probably hunt down the coat from thrift store and alter it. The most easy one is the paper boy outfit. It just a brown-ish vest and hat.

AvaAntares: I think I'll survive with the cons in Toronto.
Hmm, My house does have a nice backyard. I can always get the patio set and use it during the summer for a photoshoot. And in the freezing evil of Canada's winters I can always get a nice winter photoshoot! (With lots of pretty snow.)

I finally re-start my second Ciel's outfit withe the right color of fabric~~ um... I need a bit suggestion... for the coat's collar, buttons, and trim on the sleeves... should I use brown or black? the fabric that Ive got is gray-ish-green. Almost match up with the color that picture. thanks~

I think you should use black. Looking at the collar, and looking at Sebastion's suit. They look like the same color. I'm pretty sure Sebastion's suit is black. The trim on the sleeves look distinctly black.

A lot of his anime outfits are pretty simple. Though the one where he was visiting the Undertaker was slightly more complicated. So that one could always be a nice option. Or this (http://i251.photobucket.com/albums/gg284/mini_kitten_o5/plaidciel_01.jpg) one. I'm not so sure about cool, but it sure is adorable!

I'm stumped on what to do with the ruffles on Elizabeth's dress (http://i251.photobucket.com/albums/gg284/mini_kitten_o5/cielelizabeth_01.jpg). I'm going to make a ruffle underskirt, then make a dress to go on top of it with an open front. Then wear a blouse underneath. Should I attatch the ruffles to the blouse? or to the dress? If I attatch the ruffles to the blouse I can cut out a portion of the dress to show the ruffles.

Thank you! =3 I was considering that one, and also the one that he uses for the party that Elizabeth throws him, the blue one with the cute blue top hat.

Hmm, I think it would be easier to attach the ruffles to the dress. I mean, if it was like an under-dress then it would be better to attach them to the blouse, but it doesn't look like an under dress, it looks part of the skirt... =o I dunno, I'm not an expert, sorry

Mini Kitten: About the bow...first of all, let me take a moment to say that my camera glorifies just about everything. xD

Well, I took two strips of red fabric and used my sewing machine to the sides together, but not the ends..then I flipped it inside out 8D...(lol, I'm sure you know what I'm talking about, I'm not very good at describing things) then I just tied it into a bow :'D...
I'm going to remake it though, because the ends of the bow don't flare out enough to my liking. Basically, as far as progress goes right now- I'm only 2% done because I'm going to remake everything except for my strawberries~
Don't think I'll finish anytime soon because this costume has been kinda like an on and off thing for me because of school, band and orchestra...

Maybe I should quit orchestra~ (I love playing the violin, but I HATE my part and how cruddy we sound as a whole..and it takes away from my time for working on costumes, haha) Sorry about the random mini-rant. :'D

Also, your top hat looks so nice and clean. ;w;~
I'm thinking about using a sewing machine and making a washable top hat the second time around...(or just be lazy and buy one from a store XD)

ycysusan2001: Wow- you work really quickly! XD
I'm sure it'll turn out great for you. I agree with Mini Kitten on the Black fabric~
(also, I just think that a greenish color would look nicer with black~)

EDIT:

Warning, the following is a random insert of random..findings, don't read if you don't want to waste your time.

Almost forgot about this but, I was going through my closet the other day and found many usable items for Kuroshitsuji.
-Ruffled dress shirt
-Sea Green knee-length shorts
-Paper Boy hat (<3)
-4 eyepatches (lol..it's amazing what you can find in this closet of mine)
-Red vest (That can be turned inside-out so the button..overlay thing can be male..)
-Black vest (My father's vest to be exact..but hey, he said that I could have it. xD)
-3 dresses that could be modified to fit Elizabeth.

I feel so lucky. 8D
And I ordered my ring on Saturday...it's the cheap one, I'll post pictures of it after it comes. (I'm really hoping that it's not plastic-y..just, eeew. D: )

Technically speaking, I think the green part of her dress is an open-front pinafore that goes over a blouse and petticoats, in which case the flouncing (ruffles) would actually be part of the underskirt... But for purposes of cosplay, I think it would go together nicely if you sewed the flounces onto the front of the pinafore. That way, everything stays exactly in place and looks nice in photos, and you can really fill out the petticoat if you like.

Almost forgot about this but, I was going through my closet the other day and found many usable items for Kuroshitsuji.

Yes, closets are great sources of Kuroshitsuji cosplay materials! XD All three of our costumes (Ciel, Sebastian and Grell) are 100% found-object costumes (with the exception of Grell's red coat, which was recycled from another cosplay we'd already done). They're not totally accurate, but they're not bad for being mostly pulled out of closets or Goodwill... ^_^

Yes going without a Ciel does have that advantage.

Hopefully I can find the Ciel and Grell who said they were going to Katsu and do a mini-photoshoot. All I can do is ask every Ciel and Grell I see.

and I have another person I want to cosplay. William T. Spears because I have a great love of spear users.

^^;; Slowly working on Grell. His skull beads are a pain to find though I found his glasses fairly soon (though they have a little silver on the sides). I like 'em because they're a bright cherry red transparent plastic.

I'm also in the middle of drafting a pattern for Undertaker. I have tons of black fabric and thanks to new chapters in the manga, I finally understand how his sleeves work!

you can find toy chainsaws at Halloween store.

thanks to everyone help me solve my color problem~ I finally start my cos~ its about 50% finish already. Hopefully I can finish rest of them by beginning of next week. TT Though I fail making the collar of the Jacket... why cant I get it right... This is the second time I make this kinds of collar, fist time is VK which come out a disaster... Is there any trick to it? Beside that... never trust the yards of fabric that the pattern tell you to get... TT I end up having 3 extra yards of fabric after I cut out all the that one that Ciel needs. I think Im gonna use left over to make Elizabeth's dress...

Wolfmasterifrit: Going without a Ciel definately has its perks~ I'll be an Ciel without an Sebastion. (We have the same dilemma, just flipped around!) Though I'll be a Ciel and Elizabeth.

SakuraHimeサクラ姫: The Red with Roses Ciel is definately very pretty.

tsumikuroi: Hmmm....So this (http://i251.photobucket.com/albums/gg284/mini_kitten_o5/undertakerfull.jpg) is how the bottom part of Undertaker's outfit works. (I miss the manga ka's old blog already..) (Hope that helped you and other Undertaker cosplayers somewhat!)

ycysusan2001: 50% already! You work fast.

!*Jessi-Chan*!: Yup, there are such things as toy chainsaws. (I remember them, I was running around with one of them in Toys R' Us many years ago.) Though the ones I see are mostly a yellowish color. And some have fake blood on them already. So I think spray paint may be needed.

I'll be working on the giant collage like thing for Anime Version Grell now.

Isn't there a link somewhere back there to a video tutorial of how to make a chainsaw for $30? ... Well, since I'm doing one of the chapter illustration versions of Grell, I just need a massive bread knife/awl/sewing needle.

mini_kitten: I figured that's how the bottom worked (just a plain coat) and I was planning on wearing boots anyways. The sleeves had been driving be crazy because in one panel, they'd be covering his hands and he'd flop the loose ends around (I'd get creepily reminded of the new cartoon version of the Joker, in the crazy colored straitjacket), but in the next, his sleeves would fairly fitted to his wrists, revealing that he has a girly side and keep his fingernails very long. I'm also having trouble with his waist charms. There aren't many clear views of them!

I'm supposing there's some sort of symbolism here because the charms have sheaves of grain on them. Perhaps the Undertaker is further related to the Shinigami...

Jessi: I would honestly get the costume commissioned since it will look better and more exact than the ones on ebay. Ebay users tend to cut corners in their craft while commission costumes not only look great if you give them high quality pics but look exactly like the character's costume. If you have the money go for commission. I simply refuse to buy costumes from ebay after my last few commissioned costumes which look amazing.

I love this series so much. @_@ Sebastian and his glorious tailcoat (I've wanted to cosplay a character in tails for so long and now is my chance!).

I'm having problems finding a good black. . .I keep translating almost every 'black' fabric I find into really dark grey and it's starting to bother me. And ever since I watched episode six I've been gravitating towards the wool, but it's ridiculously expensive.
