I want to download some new music to listen to, and see if I can find something new that I like so I can add new CD's to my collection. Any good J-Rock/Pop bands I should be looking for?

Yep! ^___^ I'll give you a song title by each too. ^^ (This is all IMO of course ^^)

Psycho le Cemu "Prism" - Fun sounding music and cool PVs
Dir en grey "Cage" - very viz k but are more into punk now
Malice Mizer "Au Revoir"(sp?) - disbanded, baroque gothic to flamboyant style
MUCC "Despair" - similar to bands like Korn only a little more less melody
Lareine "Shiroi Bouquet" - very melodic music; flamboyant style
Raphael "Eternal Wish" - a cross between Malice Mizer and Psycho le Cemu. Music is very soothing and nice to listen to.

Morning Musume "Do it! Now" "Love Machine" - Girls group consisting of changing members. Nice PVs
Every Little Thing "Rescue Me" - This song has an 80s/techno feel to it. Very catchy and the PV is equally interesting
w-inds "Paradox" - Boy band consisting of three members. Very nice voices
Mini Moni "Jyankenpyon" - very bubbly, cute shuffle group. Songs are aimed at a younger audience but you might enjoy them
TM Revolution "Invoke" PV is very interesting. Takanori (vocalist) has a great voice
Gackt "Vanilla" - very....colorful song. Pretty catchy too.

ANYTHING Malice Mizer or Dir en Grey! All there songs are totally kick ass! Duel Jewel, X-Japan, LUNA SEA (I for you is a great song, makes me tear up...) GLAY... they are all great
And if you looking for some j-pop then Ayumi Hamasaki (SP?) is also good. I dont listen to much J-pop, but she has a wonderful voice.

dir en grey and malice mizer hav very nice songs. (malice's "au revoir" is the best song ever) (they're my two favorite bands) i also recommend kagrra. in my opinion, so far, they have not made a bad song. isshi's voice my take some time to get used to tho. as for j-pop, i don't necessarily like them, but utada hikaru and ayumi hamasaki might be nice to listen to. I like their voices. Oh and gackt. he has such a beautiful voice and you can't go wrong w/ too many of his songs.:p

happy downloading!

These are my favorites:
Jpop: L'arc en Ciel, Glay, Gackt, Plastic Tree (I guess they're more poppish)
Jrock: Pierrot, Dir en Grey, Malice Mizer, Psycho le Cemu, Moi dix Mois, Raphael, X-Japan, Shazna, Baiser, Lareine, Aioria, Due'le Quartz, Baroque, Kagrra, Nightmare, LunaSea.

07-11-2003, 01:22 PM
wahoo another kagrra fan!

um i think shazna is in the wrong category...yeah they were originally a rock band but they sounded better doing pop.

07-11-2003, 01:28 PM
if you're interested in alternative rock types...

Judy and Mary is *great*. You might know them from doing Rurouni Kenshin's ending theme Sobakasu. But they have even better songs...

Also, the Brilliant Green. They're just really cool...

And my favorite pop group is Morning Musume. They have a good selection of songs.

As for Jrock, I would recommend anything by Malice Mizer... their style is so broad! Unlike some American bands, every song is different, and some of them are polar opposites (listen to Beast of Blood, followed by Gardenia, and ye shall know. ^^) If you get into Jrock, make sure to find some videos... the visual aspect of Jrock bands (particularly Dir en Grey and Malice Mizer) is spectacular. For some of the best visual kei imagery, find Le Ciel by Malice Mizer... the scenery, characterization, and costumes are amazing.

As for Jpop, Megumi Hayashibara, and Ayumi Hamasaki are some of the most well-known and fun Jpop artists to listen to.

If you already listen to anime music, find the artists who perform your favorite songs, and you may be surprised: many of them have a broad selection of songs and albums aside from their performances in anime.

i don't know very many bands, but i like L'arc En Ciel a lot and Rosier by Luna Sea (their only song that i've heard). my absolute favourite band (to the point of worship X-P) is Malice Mizer. i can't just recommend one song, because they are all very different (very). some of my very favourites, however, are:

Baroque (sung by first singer Tetsu; very classical, very well done)
Gekka No Yasou Kyoku
Syuunikiss (or Syunikiss; the only song ever written by their bassist, Yu~ki)
Claire (almost lounge lizard-ish, but very good)
Brise and Je Te Veux (very ditzy and very fun. get the videos if you can)
Au Revoir
Kami And Gackt Solo
Beast Of Blood

i'm hoping to create the first American visual kei band, inspired by Malice Mizer. the hardest part for me would be to not copy every single aspect of them (difficult when you love them as i do) X-P

Utada Hikaru - Sakura Drops
Hikaru Utada - Simple and Clean (English Hikari)

First off, I'm biased, but I'm gonna say Ayumi Hamasaki. Her later stuff is much MUCH better than her older stuff though, but every song of hers is at least decent.

I also MUCH MUCH like B'z, who don't get much attention in the american circles really. They've been around awhile.

hitomi (all lowercase) does pretty cool chick-rock if you're into that. "Samurai Drive" and "LOVE 2000" are good.

Namie Amuro was reigning queen of jpop before Ayumi and Utada Hikaru. her older stuff like "How to be a girl", "A Walk In the Park", and "Body feels EXIT" are worth checking out.

Utada Hikaru, BTW, is another big favorite, responsible for the biggest selling jpop album in history. It's nothing special by american standards (pretty simple R&B), but her third album "DEEP RIVER" is really something amazing.

Then there are the obvious ones... L'Arc~en~Ciel, Gackt, Malice Mizer, Luna Sea, Dir en grey, etc.

Others I'm fond of are Hitoto You, Megumi Hayashibara, Nana Katase, Janne da Arc, See-Saw (responsible for the dot hack music), Access, Olivia, Yaida Hitomi, The Brilliant Green, and Tommy Heavenly6/Tommy February6.

Glay and Lots of Luna Sea. Luna Sea is a personal Favorite.

08-06-2003, 05:12 PM
Jeez, how could I forget glay ^^;; their Pure Soul album is fantastic. Just skip over "Unity Roots & Family, Away". It's a terrible album. just... ew. x_x Except for "Way of Difference", which they cut short on the album anyway. x_x

Hmm i reccommend the following

TM Revolution
Ayumi Hamasaki
Fairy Fore
Every Little Thing

Most of my favorites bands have been named already but aside from those, I suggest you give The Back Horn a try. They only have a couple of albums out but are producing some of the most powerful songs out there. I don't want to try and categorize them but it only takes a song or too to know if they're right for you.

Sorry about the plug but feel free to check out my site (www.projectj.net) for a little info on them and a few other artists mentioned in this thread... or just look at the pretty pictures; it's all good.

If you only listen to one JRock artist, make it hide.
Go find "PINK SPIDER" and listen to it now. XD
And X-Japan, but make sure you get more than just "Forever Love..."^^;

And, because no one's mentioned them yet: SADS.
"MASQUERADE" is my favoirite song. Ever.

I agree with all the other suggestions (even though I don't like Malice Mizer...hah...).
Gackt is a really good way to be introduced to Jrock/pop I just...really...don't recommend his later stuff. "Kimi no tame ni dekiru koto," "Wasurenai kara, " and "MOON" all hurt my ears. Go for tracks off "MARS."
But that could just be me. ^^

Jeez, how could I forget glay ^^;; their Pure Soul album is fantastic. Just skip over "Unity Roots & Family, Away". It's a terrible album. just... ew. x_x Except for "Way of Difference", which they cut short on the album anyway. x_x
Heh, I love GLAY. xD
"Unity Roots..." wasn't THAT bad....it was just...er...GLAY gospel. ^^;;;

I actually put Sads..but I don't bother putting up music titles. Everyone has different taste, so I'm not going to bother for someone to download it, than hate it..

H'm, if you plan on downloading Lamiel..I'm telling everyone now..it's painful. It's hard to get songs by them, it's easier just to buy their damn cd.

09-13-2003, 12:36 AM
are hide and hyde two different people? i think so.

well, if you can find it, and actually download it, can you send "hello" by hyde to me? i've been looking for it and can't find it. it's rockish, pretty neat. and it's catchy. he wears eye make up. heheh

"life is.." by ken hirai is cool. the video's neat, also, if you find this one, i want it too!

09-14-2003, 12:20 AM
j rock: malice mizer. moi dix moi, eve of destiny, dir en grey

j pop: ayumi hamasaki, do as infinity, TM Revolution, GACKT, utada hikaru, rina chinen, maaya sakamoto

09-14-2003, 01:37 PM
are hide and hyde two different people?

hide = X-JAPAN guitarist. Solo artist. God of Jrock. Pink hair. Deceased. ;_; Pronounce his name like "he-day."

Hyde = l'arc~en~ciel vocalist. Done some solo work. Made a movie with Gackt. x_x; Still alive. Pronounce his name "hai-do." Or "hyde." Either way.

Lots of people seem to get confused about that. ^^; But they're actually not the same person at all.

I want to download some new music to listen to, and see if I can find something new that I like so I can add new CD's to my collection. Any good J-Rock/Pop bands I should be looking for?

Hallo! I´m new in this forum. I play in a J-Rock cover band (Padora no Hako), we just recorded Lareine´s song Shiroi Bouquet (same lyrics, more Metal added), if u wanna try it, just gimme a e-mail and I will send it. We´re doing kind a research, trying to listen the publics opinion, we´d be grateful if u could help us.

Thank you very much.
