Well, I see a Batman topic, but none about other DC characters, so I want to create this one to talk about those costumes or projects from their comics (non-Batman, u know)

As for me, I wanna make Green Lantern Kyle Rayner, Superboy/Kon-el and maybe Superboy Prime :skidude2: WHat about you??

Well I'm working on the CN version of Raven from Teen Titans...that's originally DC =3

Basara-kun

That's true, but I prefer Teen Titans from comics instead CN ones (but Raven looks almost like in the comics)

C'mon, I can't be the only one who wants to make DC cosplays (non-Batman) soon...

Well, if I strayed at all, I'd have to go with either the Question, or Lex. Love the Question merely for his crazy conspiracy theories. And well, Lex is pretty self explanatory. Megalomaniac, egotistical and yet he still ended up president. Maybe. Though I'm a little too at home with Joe here.

I've already cosplayed Harley Quinn, whom is DC, and she's my absolute favoritttte. But, I find myself falling in love with DC lately. I really would like to do Bruce Timm's Supergirl. I love that mad cute design.

And Im trying to convince a friend of mine to make Livewire, because that would be wicked sweet. <3 I love me some DC comics.

I've done a few, I've done 3 different Wonder Woman costumes (regular Alex-Ross style, Kingdom Come armor, and Ame-Comi statue), CN Starfire, comic book Starfire, Black Canary, Zatanna, and Poison Ivy.
I want to do another Poison Ivy and another Wonder Woman, and I'm working on putting together a golden age Black Canary now, and a Huntress.

FeatherInMyCap
11-11-2008, 02:31 AM
I've already done a heavily modded Stargirl (ran out of time/money right before con), and I'd like to do her properly by next year. Already have done Black Canary, and plan on continuing to do her. Looove her. And to completely geek out, I'd also love to do a Goldstar/Michelle (Booster Gold's sister), but I'll probably have to put that off for a year or two.

Would like to do Cyclone (pre-hat) one year, but that's a wishlist kind of thing. Huntress would be another fun one, same as Batgirl (original and the current one with the crazy mouth thing).

Not this year, but the year after, I'm planning on both Jonah Hex (MAD love for Jonah, in my top 3 favorite DC characters ever), and J'onn crossplays. I'll probably end up doing Miss Martian that year just to use up the green paint. And the female Question, to reuse the trench I'll be getting for these cosplays (I prefer the male Question, but getting a blue suit in addition to the trench and the prosthetics and wigs I'll need will break my bank, heh).

...I like DC. I'm a comics girl, and I just can't connect to Marvel as well.

My dream cosplay would be the Ami-Comi Batgirl outfit. But that would require more cosplay knowledge then I currently have!

I'm currently making a few Legion of Super Heroes [Three-boot comic] costumes, including two Dream Girl outfits and an Invisible Kid crossplay. I was hoping to pick something from the animated series as well, but it depends on how well the other three go.

Basara-kun

I'm thinking in make someday a Legion cosplay, but here in Chile isn't very known that series, but I like to cosplay Lar Gand/Mon-El/Valor someday, even as a home cosplay :P

Well, I'm planning to make last Kon-El costume for a special cosplay category: Male Sexy Cosplay, just for fun
Superboy/Kon-El (http://img442.imageshack.us/img442/3032/superboysigth5.jpg)

And an ambitious project for 2009: Kyle Rayner in his 2nd outfit (before converting Ion) with my girlfriend Jakito as Jade
2nd GL Kyle outfit (http://www.hyperborea.org/flash/bigimages/gl-kyle2.jpg)

It's good to see more people wants to make DC cosplays :D

Ooh, nice thread idea ^^ I've been hoping to branch out into comic-related cosplay next year and DC characters are definitely up there in the options. I was thinking of doing the B:TAS version of Poison Ivy, but that'd require some knowledge of bodysuit and corsetwork to pull it off, I think.

A friend's planning to do the animated version of Blackfire, though if I wanted to be Starfire, I'd have to find purple pleather/vinyl someplace (and orangeish makeup since I'm pale and have no drive to tan XD). Though who I'm REALLY looking forward to possibly cosplaying in '09, if I can figure her out, is Flamebird. The only problems I could see are making the belt (Wonderflex?), cape, and doing boot covers. I'm hoping to do her George Perez design, since even though her later costume's cooler, the headpiece is baffling for me to figure out how to do.

And on that front, I'd like to do "Bat-Girl" (the original blonde one, same character basically as Flamebird), though the cape and belt once again are what I'd have to figure out, along with the mask.

Featherinmycap: Goldstar? AWESOME. I love cosplay of the more obscure characters ^^ Hopefully you'll be able to do that costume someday.

My mom and dad will think I'm just a regular Cow boy (Or girl) And I am brainstorming on Jaime Reye's Blue Beetle suit. I already got some plans down and all, it'll just take me some time. That's wicked. I was considering doing that for a bit but the technicalities of her made me nervous [wings, battle mask, ect]. I'd love to see you pull her off, she's such an awesome character and LOSH just rocks too much. So happy to see another cosplayer for it.

I did a Terry Dodson Wonder Woman last year. I absolutely love his design for her, and was so happy to finally get it finished, after working on it for a year. You can see photos here (http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v219/Last_Chael/Costumes/Wonder%20Woman/), until I have time to upload them to my gallery :P

As I have an absolute love (some might call it an obsession) with Terry Dodson artwork, I'm also planning to do his Wonder Circe, Wonder Donna, Agent Diana Prince (all hopefully this year, but we'll see!).

Also on my list are Zatanna (my friend gifted me with the jacket for Christmas!), Black Canary, Silk Spectre 1, Poison Ivy, Donna's Classic red outfit and starry Troia jumpsuit, Wonder Girl, Cheetah (both Dodson version and Ami-Comi), and Amazonia Wonder Woman. I'm hoping to get a few of these done this year, so we'll see which ones!

I'm definitely a DC fan, as the only Marvel character on my list thus far is Elektra.

I just got the plush elephant I'll be using as a figure, so I can proceed.

Currently planned for the NYCC - Blue Lantern, Ambush Bug (with Cheeks), Skeets (to go with Booster) Darkseid, and I hope The Flash (Barry Allen). If I get a good shot of the Orange Lantern, I'll do one of them as well.

Later down the pike is Blue Beetle, Captain Marvel and a few more.

I want to make one for Grant Morrison, but I can't decide what. Any ideas?

Ama, I love Hawkgirl! And love the later yellow costume and the past life costume! The yellow costume should be pretty easy. What type of material are you thinking of making it out of?

I'm currently working on a Black Canary costume. I've combined elements of Smallville's Black Canary and the comics version. Basically I've taken a little bit of what I like best about each of her various outfits and I'm working on combining it into my ultimate BC costume. Here's a picture of the jacket I just finished:

http://i44.tinypic.com/6715av.jpg

(I owned the jacket, and had to cut out this nasty pink lining and add the yellow stripes)

I'm also working on a Lois Lane costume, based on this outfit:

http://i41.tinypic.com/2cd8qrq.jpg

http://i43.tinypic.com/ek55ya.jpg

I also designed a press pass to go with the outfit:

http://i40.tinypic.com/ddch35.jpg

I'll have to come back and post better pictures when I have the whole costume finished for BC, including the wig, and when I have a more flattering picture of my Lois costume (and my hair dyed a darker brown and styled properly)

Actually, the Lois costume is done except for the hair and adding a back to my press pass. So it's really the Black Canary costume that needs to be finished. DC is really a better side of things the superheros are more unique and in many cases not really superheros at all. Just very good crime fighters with advanced martial arts or fightings skills. Where as Marvel is all mutants or some experiment gone wrong. I do wish DC would get with the times and make more movies. Yeah Batman, Superman but why can't wonderwoman, flash, Captain Marvel and many more have a movie. Why not a justice league movie?

But I have made 2 DC costumes so far. Green Arrow if you look to your left at my icon. and Supergirl. here. supergirl (http://www.cosplay.com/costume/213859/)

Next up is Captain Marvel and Isis. which is really another comic book company that isn't around anymore. But DC has him and they could really do a lot with him if they wanted. Then after Isis my daughter wants me to do catwoman but that 4 way stretch PVC is expensive and hard to find. As far as me I'm not sure yet. I have thought about doing Thor which is Marvel so not real sure if I want to. I may do something from earth 2 Justice Society of America. or one of them other universes.

I believe Navigated here on cos.com made a female Two-Face, which I think is most excellent & one time I was poking around Youtube and found this makeup tutorial (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lq4ssdcaxyo&feature=channel_page) for a girly Dent, and although I did 'facepalm' over using fabric paint as makeup, you could draw inspiration from it.

Which Armour of WG's? I love the newest armour she had that goes with Wonder Woman's eagle armour (which Kelldar has done). I'd love to make Donna Troy's silver/black sparkle version, and do a photoshoot with Kell (If/When I can make it over to the US :P).

I just recently bought some bits and pieces to start working on Cassie's usual uniform too. I've already got jeans, though they're dark wash, so I might buy a light wash next time I'm jean shopping. I need to get the red tank top, but I have gold embroidery thread to embroider the designs around the neckline and armholes. Just trying to work out the best way to make the armour part.

I'm totally going for "closet cosplay" from here on out, I've got so much fabric that I've bought & haven't used so I'm trying to see what I have and can match with my own clothing. Since one of my red tanks has a bleach mark on the front, I have no problem using it as a base for a costume. But I was poking around Google and found a tutorial that ThatCostumeGirl here on coscom has written regarding Cassie's tank top-breast plate, it may help you out: http://thatcostumegirl.com/2008/07/02/the-breast-plate

AWESOME! I only recently stumbled across the picture of the 3 of them (Diana, Donna and Cassie) in their winged armour and totally had a squeegasm! I'd always wanted to do the Wonder Woman Eagle armour, but Kell's was so good I decided to concentrate on Donna's Wonder Woman armour. But when I saw that picture I was like OMG that's so AWESOME! Whilst I LOVE Wonder Woman (I've done the Terry Dodson version), I love Donna just a smidge more :P

Closet cosplay is awesome! That's why my friend suggested it to me! It was funny coz it's been on my list for ages (wanted to do it before I got too old for Cassie), and I didn't even think of it! I already have the wig (which I bought for my Aurora costume), and the jeans and sneakers. I used to have a red tank top that would have worked, but it's too big!

That tutorial looks pretty good! I was going to use the same gold stuff that I used for Wonder Woman for Cassie, to give them a cohesive look. Though I was actually thinking of using the plastic packaging from my chicken fillets :P Since it's already bra shaped! Though I think I threw it out, so I was going to try using a hairdryer to heat shape some acetate.

I groaned when I heard Beyonce wanted the role. Urgh! I'm all for equality and ethnic diversity, but please, Wonder Woman is either Caucasian or Greek. You just don't mess with such an iconic character! It would be as bad as making her blonde!! Though I think Beyonce would make a great Vixen :D

Ewww I just googled Chyna and ick! She looks like a man. Sure that works for some of the awful figures I've seen, but hell no, not for the movie!! MEgan Gale all the way (and no, it's not just coz I'm an Aussie :P).

I'm currently working on my Bat-Girl cosplay, hoping to debut it in June. Nobody has ever really cosplayed her, to my knowledge, though she's quite an unpopular character and it's hard to be a fan of ANY version of Betty Kane without getting people ragging on you, 'nuff said :P

I've finished her mask, though I'm concerned about how it'll hold up and I'll have to put it on VERY carefully. I'll post pictures as soon as I possibly can, but I made it out of paper mache, wire mesh, and crafting wire and one of those plastic masks from Michael's as a base (cut and altered to make the base shape). The first mask didn't go over too well due to forgetting wire mesh, so it came out soggy and fell apart. The second one's got some cracks, but it SEEMS to be holding up...so far.

Would anyone know how to do her belt? I was figuring that I'd make a belt shape and then attach it all together in the back with hook-and-eye closures (it sounds better in my mind), possibly making the bat out of craft foam and fabric-gluing/snap-attaching it to the belt. But if anyone has an easier idea for her belt, I'd be glad to hear it. *I've attached some images of her, though they might not be good enough reference. The one picture I do have that shows off her belt more, I'll have to shrink some for it to be able to be an attachment*

Her cape's going to be tricky too, but I'm hoping the dress will go over fine. My mask and shoes aren't EXACTLY accurate, but I think they're close enough to be recognizable ^^

Oh... and fellow DC Cosplayers, I ask for your advice :) The husband and I are going to Superman Celebration this year and bringing one of his friends along. The friend wants to do a cosplay, but he refuses to wear tights. lol. So, something that would be easy and not too expensive to pull together in a month and something without tights. lol. Any suggestions?

I suggested Connor Kent, cuz blue jeans and a black t-shirt with the Superman symbol is just about the easiest and most low maintenance costume we could pull together but he said he didn't want a 'cop-out' costume. (read: too easy. lol)

So... any thoughts would be awesome :) I'm thinking Brainiac, because really the big thing there would be face paint. But we'll see what else I can come up with :)

brainiac would be awsome at a superman party, but you really need to do it bald nd if your gonna do that then why not just do lex, i think you could have some real fun with solomon grundy. easy costume, and fun make-up.

Rasool Bros, you're right about the bald thing. I've been thinking about that and I'm just not sure. It's a shame he's not blonde, or we could go for Brainiac 5. Solomon Grundy would be awesome, but he's kind of more of a skinny guy so not sure how we could pull that off cuz he's not big enough to be Grundy. I'm going to email him with some of the suggestions and see what he says. A bald cap Lex would be pretty fun too I think. Thanks for the suggestions Rasool and H!

H-that's a great suggestion about Clark Kent! I'll probably suggest that to him. It would be easy since I've already put together a fake press pass for myself for my Lois Lane costume. My husband is doing the CK thing for the first day of the Superman Celebration, so it would be pretty easy to translate it for his friend for the second day.

And Kelldar is a genius :) I've gotten so much inspiration from looking at her costumes and reading her construction notes on everything. Right now I can only aspire to making costumes that are that well-done, but it's good to read her tips and maybe some day :)

Edit: Black Canary costume is finished! I'm liking the wig, though blonde is not my color. And I'm finished with all the details :)

Thanks! And I'll definitely do something else with make-up. I'm actually not wearing make-up there, so I'll probably play around with colors before I actually wear the costume.

And the buckles are just made out of upholstery weight vinyl. I used the same fabric to add the stripes to the gloves and the jacket. It was a pain in the rear trying to get those 'buckles' to look even. I measured and sewed and they didn't look right so I remeasured and resewed and they still don't look quite right, but the measurements are right. Oh well :)

Dreamsofnever: Awesome Canary cosplay! I like how the buckles and yellow details turned out on it :3

As for my Bat-belt, I managed to figure something out. It's a "button-back" belt with two belt loops and two buttons. Though my main gripe with my finished product is how my cape is applied. In a pin-test, pinning the cape closer to the collar (as it should be) created a little bit of bunching, though the way it looks now looks incredibly awkward and I worry about how it will show up in photos.

Seam-ripping it would be torture though, seeing as it took both velcro and snaps for the right "weight" in holding it down. Due to this experience, I've become reluctant to work with dancewear stretch knits, zippers, or velcro for future costuming purposes ;._. (though the first of those wound up not being so horrible in comparison to the experiences with the other two).

A few test photos of the completed dress/cape:
http://i194.photobucket.com/albums/z70/Cerisatempest/Cosplay/Picture002.jpg (The awkward cape attachment)
http://i194.photobucket.com/albums/z70/Cerisatempest/Cosplay/Picture003.jpg(Dress and purse, belt not pictured because it's in the purse)

In-dress test photos will be forthcoming, though I find it very hard to be photogenic, with or without makeup. I attempted to do wig test shots as well, but couldn't get a good one (especially with a horsefly entering my room and throwing my concentration off).

Cersia: i think it's going to turn out really well, but it looks as though you have too much of the capes fabric being wraped around you neck which is pulling it and changing the shape.

dreamsofnever: Excellent new Black Canary outfit!

Cerisa: Are you working on a Robin costume? Whatever it is, it looks well-made ^_^.

Sort of! It's the first "Bat-Girl" (Betty Kane), who was in fact designed as a sort of female Robin analogue with a red and green color scheme. She didn't last very long though, before being phased out. And then years later, they introduced Barbara and Betty was mostly forgotten.

Thanks, though! It was pretty much a pain to get the velcro and snaps on, and I think I am going to have to alter the placement of the cape, though I'll wait until I'm good and ready to (it's gonna be a lot of seam-ripping and re-sew work, unless I can get some help). Nylon thread also was the devil for me, so I wound up breaking the "rules" of sewing stretch knit and put the cape together with polyester thread and straight stitching.

The dress wasn't TOO much of a pain to put together (collar was a little tricky to get down though), until the time came to install a zipper. It turns out that the one I had for it was a bit long, so there's a teensy bit of it that wouldn't sew right and just "hangs" on the inside. It doesn't seem too noticeable from the outside though, hopefully it'll stay that way.

I also made her purse for the costume, and considered making her gloves, but I think I'll do those later. 'Cause stretch knit may have not been so horribly difficult in retrospect (not when compared to the notions), but it's something I don't think I want to work with too often. At least when it comes to dancewear knits, shirt knits might not be so "bad".

I just hope at least one person recognizes the character or asks what I am, when I wear this one out to a con XD

dreamsofnever
05-08-2009, 01:04 AM
Well, Cerisa, now that you've posted in here, someone will see you and know :) If I see you out at a con, I'll know!

I hate having to rip out stitches. I spent two hours sewing something last night and had to rip out ALL the stitches because it wasn't on there right. Yuck.

But anyways, your costume really does look cute! Stretchy fabric is always a pain, so good luck with the gloves. I much prefer vinyl. It's so nice and easy to sew through. (but doesn't breathe well at all, so not as comfortable to wear) Ah well, it's a trade-off!

That is cool that you're doing a more vintage character too.

It's not the same, but from a similar era-I really want to do a 1940s Wonder Woman costume. I think it would be fun to get together a whole group of Golden Age characters at a con one of these days.

@Ama Uzume: That looks like it will make a beautiful and impressive cosplay! In all honesty, if I were to make something like that I would just make my own pattern for it....or possibly purchase a top and skirt that could be altered to my purposes. You would probably have to alter whatever pattern you find anyway in order to make it look as close to the character as possible ^_^.

Ama, I can't wait to see that cosplay! I love Hawkgirl and that is a version that I haven't seen anyone do. If you want to make moving wings, this tutorial looks really great: http://www.andsewingishalfthebattle.com/tutorials/34-tutorials/52-the-angel-wing-tutorial

Otherwise, there are a few stationary wing tutorials out there.

The helmet is something that you'll have to think carefully on. I wish I had some suggestions, but I have never made a helmet. Though I'll have to eventually if I ever get my own HG costume done.

And I will eventually shrink my pictures to post on my cosplay gallery from Superman Celebration, but I swear they have the tiniest picture limits. *sigh* But we got some great shots this weekend, though I kind of forgot to pose for many Black Canary/Green Arrow shots with just the two of us. Even my icon is from a picture with someone else. Whoops.

And my wish list of DC characters just keeps growing, which is frustrating because who knows what size I'll be after the baby comes. (or if I'll have any energy to even make costumes for that matter)

Hey all, I'll start with a bit of introduction and description. I'm 25, 6ft tall with brown hair and eyes, with a 215 lbs athletic build. So fate, as it seems, has handed me Hal Jordan. Which I gladly accept, as he has always been my favorite character.

I'm building both an on and off duty Hal costume. I've got the materials lined up for the spandex clad emerald warrior. I'll be sewing the whole thing myself, with a mask sculpted and cast by yours truly, as well as a few tricks for the emblem if I can wing it. Plus a resin light up ring.

For Hal, I've got a custom modified A2 flight jacket with white fur on the collar and custom made patches. Added with a button up shirt tucked into a pair of jeans, and my custom made anodized aluminum GL ring.

Thanks for letting me brainstorm a little.

Some friends and I are building a JLA group to go to Comic Con 2011. He's going as Batman, and I as Hal Jordan Green Lantern. And it works out quite well, as he's 6'2", 210lbs with black hair and blue eyes, and I'm 6ft, 200 lbs (cutting down) with brown hair and brown eyes. Talk about serendipity?!

Steampunk Lady Blackhawk sounds like a really interesting idea. Definitely have to change the guns up to give that classic steampunk feel. Other than that, I can't really offer suggestions.

I do have a question though. How do you think people will react to a cross-played Green Arrow? I'm tired of seeing such horrible GA cosplayers, other than the Smallville version. I've got my costume for NYCC planned this year, so this would be a possible idea for next year, and I have a friend who could fit the Mia Speedy role absolutely perfectly with me.

Image reference (less revealing probably. It's just for the sake of an idea):

A boxing glove arrow will be included, of course.

I've had a number of my friends (and even my mom of all people) tell me that I should cosplay Power Girl, and I have to admit I'm rather attracted to the idea after seeing her costume design for her current comic run. I looooove the way Amanda Conner draws her so I've pegged a PG cosplay for later this year, tentatively around Halloween. I've got some fabric around here I can use for it, but I need to keep my eye open for good white and blue spandex. Although chances are I'd need to put boning in this costume up the front to get the right look for the waistline and cleavage. I'm very very very tempted to commission an insanely talented friend of mine to draft a pattern of her leotard. It would make my life easier, methinks.

I'm thinking of doing a steampunk version of Lady Blackhawk and are looking for ideas. Although I already have some ideas, I'm still kind of stuck and certain things, such as her hat and whether to wear breeches under the skirts.

Any thoughts?

I'd say tight knee-breeches or lengthen the skirt.

I'm looking into the new Arkham City Catwoman, for the sequel the the Arkham Asylum game. They just released pictures in a magazine of what she looks like, but none on the net yet except the magazine cover. It looks like the modern Catwoman comics version but some of the fabric is a bit different.

I just found a catsuit pattern I can alter and now I'm just stuck on the fabric. A friend of mine did a costume with a similar outfit and said she used stretch pleather but I'm wondering if that has the right kind of stretch? Like would something like this (http://www.spandexhouse.com/products.asp?id=47&pname=Stretch%20Pleather) work? It doesn't way whether it's Two or Four way stretch or what. Maybe I should ask?

Though I just noticed the pattern used Two-Way stretch fabrics. Would that make a huge difference if I used Four-Way stretch?

I really want to do a DC cosplay. I'm probably going to do some kind of original design, because I know I can't wear spandex or leotards. xD

Considering doing a female version of Guy Gardner lantern or Green Arrow. Or maybe something steampunk-y.

A longtime DC fan, The Batman was my very first cosplay effort (1990's version down to a functioning-within-legal-boundaries utility belt). Most recently I did The Comedian from "The Watchmen" and this year, a take on Green Arrow inspired by his look in the graphic novel "Identity Crisis".

I'm actually a bigger fan of Green Lantern than all those characters, but I'll wait for the film before I decide on that look. Anyone know how to make a motion-capture suit? ;)

LD-Shine, there are some great vendors over at the Superhero Costuming Forum and the League of Heroes. The Heroes Locker is one that comes to mind immediately: http://www.heroeslocker.com/ but there's also a member by the name of Brian (GreenarrowFL) who takes commissions and quite a few others who do as well.

Otherwise, you can always look into getting a zentai suit off Ebay and adding the lightning details either by sewing or using fabric glue.

But if you don't know how to make anything and want to learn, this place (and the SCF and League of Heroes) is a great resource to teach yourself.

Currently working on a DC costume for Fanime 2011 [over in San Jose,CA on Memorial Day weekend] (bit on the down low since its a bit of a secret costume) and was looking into setting up a Marvel/DC Universe gathering at the con. So even though I'm not sure if this is allowed to be posted here, I am wondering if any DC cosplayers that are interested in joining this gathering group at Fanime? It wouldn't appear out there since I've seen a fair share non-Japanese/gaming costumes at the con (things like Star Wars characters for example), so that should ease a little of the unsure-ness of the idea.

I do apologize in advance if this is being asked in the wrong area, but I thought it is worth trying to ask here in order to raise awareness to those DC fans that are going to or are thinking of attending Fanime.

I grew up reading DC. Green Lantern was the first comic I ever picked up. Sadly I don't think I will get to cosplay as someone from DC anytime soon (very low budgets at the moment. Sapped it all up for a Jack harkness cosplay for D*C this year), but I do know who I would if I could.

I have it narrowed down to either Adam Strange or Prometheus. But again those are for another day/year when I have a bigger budget and a little more skill.

It's sooo HARD! >_< I have never had this much problems just picking stuff out before for a cosplay. I think it's because I really don't know much just yet about Hal Jordan and whatnot yet. Like I know a bit from what I have read and seen but, still. u_u I have about 4 wigs picked out and 2 or 3 suits lined up as well for me to decided what I should go with.

http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=9864&id=119952084712015
If you scroll down a bit you'll come to the GL suits. If anyone could point out which one's would be good for my Hal Jordan cosplay then that would be a lot of help. ^_^ I was told to go with the 2nd one or the 4th one. I just can't decided. u_u Then I thought the 1st one looks nice too. I was told by the guy that makes these I can have the symbols changed on the suit if I wish too.

These are the wigs I'm thinking about:
1. http://cgi.ebay.ca/HIGH-HEAT-RESISTANT-TRENDY-FRINGE-LADY-WIG-2-TONE-4-30-/230588623163?pt=Women_s_Accessories_UK&hash=item35b027293b

2. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=230476490461&ssPageName=STRK:MESE:IT
Same as 1st wig but, longer. Don't know if I should go long or not.

3. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=260672122291&ssPageName=STRK:MESE:IT

4. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=230531812808&ssPageName=STRK:MESE:IT

5. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=230524194140&ssPageName=STRK:MESE:IT
This one not as much since it's "off-black".

Any help or suggestions would be very much appreciated!

Auburn Kitty- I would go with a short hair brown wig for a female version of hal jordan. Also me I like to go the classic comic book with when I do the Joker. Try the classic look for Hal Jordan. Also if you have a hard time with the mask you could always paint it on. Here is a picture of classic green lantern Hal Jordan.

Here is a good question:

What is good to wear under spandex costumes if your a women? Like what kind of bra is best to wear? I don't wanna have my bra line showing through the suit if possible. I pretty much figured out the bottom half which is seamless panties with tummy support so I hope that doesn't show through. n_n I just need some good tips on how to keep certain parts flatter (tummy) and not others (breast, hips, butt).

So sorry Auburn Kitty-I meant to answer this before! I know a lot of people who swear by spanx, and I think they have all sorts of different types of shapewear. But the tough part of spandex is that it tends to flatten everywhere (as you mentioned, the breasts, hips, butt area doesn't need to be flat!)

I haven't yet worn spandex though, so I'm not an expert because I prefer designing my costumes to incorporate corsets, which are lovely in enhancing curves instead of flattening them, but I know there are things you can do to counteract that flattening effect.

As for the new WW costume, I like the design itself, but the fabric is too shiny, the pants should be a darker blue, the boots should be red, and the armor looks like cheap plastic. I've seen fan manips that make it look so much better and hopefully it's not the final version.

I made my Robin masks from foam, heat formed it to my face and then painted it. It works well enough until I have the time to make leather ones, which will require some money for leather and some time to wet form it and such.

I'm really looking forward to getting some work done in my various versions of Robin. I just need money to buy fabric. Lack of money sucks. :(

I would recommend a full camisole leotard. That is what I wear with Fight, and it lays nice and you don't have to worry about it slipping down or anything. They are not as shiny as a swimsuit, either. :]

LOL I thought the same thing - thank goodness I have this darn tailcoat to wear on top. I made basically a bikini bottom out of black pvc and it looked alright (at least I thought so hah) with the cotton I used for the shirt and coat. If you make them yourself you can always alter the cut/coverage to your liking. Dance tights always help too :)

I'm considering a Green Lantern costume but since I am way too thin and spindly for spandex, I've been considering a wetsuit - partly since I like the thicker 'armour' look anyway.

So I have a few questions.

1) Just how stupidly uncomfortable would that be?

2) Whats a good way of colouring them since its unlikely I'll find one thats already a GL uniform.

3) What do people use for boots?

4) Whats a good place to get appropriate cheap ones

edit:

Actually having thought about it more I like this design:

http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e18/driftwaysinger/GL_Movie_Costume_Design.png

and might use something like this:

I'm new to this section of cosplay.com. My boyfriend, being a huge Green Lantern fan, introduced me to the comics and since then I have come to really like reading them (he gave me all the Blackest Night issues and ones coinciding to read while he was at work and I finished in 2 days hehe). One character that I love and have read/researched separately about since is the Sinestro Corps member Karu-Sil. So this year for San Diego Comic Con I decided to join my boyfriend (who cosplayed as St. Walker last year to the event) as Karu-Sil. Now, unfortunately I can't sew wonderfully to keep a whole suit together and my grandma won't let me near her sewing machine, I commissioned a suit from an LoL member. Here is the completed suit:

That was a quick picture taken by my boyfriend. I just finished slitting the boots down the front to make a bit of a 'V' and have gotten halfway through filing 'teeth,' and I got some fun creepy contacts to go along. Super excited.!

Okay thats cool.

For my own, I mostly scrubbed the stuff above and I'm going for a black compression top with skinny black trousers. The green bits will all be seperat padded sections that will hopefully look like bolt on 'armour'. Still need to find a belt and boots though.

I think I might have the green come down deeper, though possibly not all the way. (Oh and please ignore how I have a spine made of jelly)

Hi! Thought I should pop in here since I currently have about 5 DC costumes on my planned list...
The first will probably be Catwoman from Batman: The animated series because she's relatively fast to sew and I can't start on her untill October (con's in November). I'm thinking grey, matte stretch for the suit and possible stretch vinyl for the gloves and boots :)

Power Battery is done! Technically it isn't so much a lantern as a bird feeder.

Brightest Day (http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g148/Wishmeister/002-Copy.jpg)

Blackest Night (http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g148/Wishmeister/001.jpg)

Edit:

http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g148/Wishmeister/001-1.jpg

The white bits and the shoulder pads will be green obviously, and the duct tape will be replaced with black elastic, though I need to work out a set up that doesn't cause the breastplate to buckle so much.

There's also a backplate the same shape.

http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g148/Wishmeister/002.jpg

This is the material, though it's actually a fair bit bluer(still geen, just not as rich).

And I'll be wearing skinny black trousers with these boots.

finally got an update, all done now except for the logo. I'll probably just print it off, stick it onto card, and pva it to the breastplate.

Nice. Will you be using green boots?

Nah. I considered it, but I don't think painting them would work very well (and the boots themselves look better in black).

http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g148/Wishmeister/001-8.jpg

Logo done. Not totally happy with it but short of trying to blacken the edges(which could go badly if I screw up) there's nothing I can do.

Yea I guess painting them green would have its draw backs. If your not happy with the logo you can always print another one and pva it over that one. Or if you wanted to blacken the edges you could mask the areas to make sure you don't mark unintentional areas.

I saw two Jason Todd cosplayers above and thought you guys would enjoy this:

I've got a few DC costumes so far (DCAU Robin, Speedy, and Booster) and I've just started my forth, Garth from Teen Titans: Year One. I'm sure excited for the makeup this go round and I'm trying to figure a way to make matching metallic spandex boots for him. :)

Well I'm back again xD thankies for all the help with Harley, I'll be scouting fabric soon but I've rediscovered my love for the Riddler and i'm planning to cosplay him rather soon. The suit, ironically I can make. I have that planned out I just need to find the perfect shade of green. What I do need help with is his bowler hat this is the version i'm going to attempt

http://images.wikia.com/batman/images/b/bc/The_Riddler_in_B.A.A.jpg

then i'll most likely move on to Arkham City.

I don't want to get a bowler hat that is the wrong shade of green, but I was thinking could I just cover one in fabric? I'm not too sure, anyone have any ideas?

Or I was thinking just making a bowler hat, but I have no clue where to start with that

Wow!! I love ur green arrow!!! Rrally well done!!!!

I don't know if its just me but... the last few cons I've been I noticed that there are soooooooooo many more DC costumes then Marvel!! And LOADS of Batmen and all his villains!!!!!!

DC I have... Wonder Woman (base on the 1960's tv show and 1 of the versions worn by Linda Carter)
Robin (also from the 1966 tv show, and am glad to say I got thumbs up from both Adam West and Burt Ward)
Arisia Raab from the Green Lantern Corps.
Poison Ivy

For next year I am planning some other version of Robin.
And some sort of Harley Quinn inspired dress... I was thinking of something that I can just wear regularly.... but turn it into a costume as I add make up and accessories!!!!!!

I'd like to do a Nightwing. I've seen some examples but what I want to do is sort of a batsuit-esque looking Nightwing costume. If anyone remembers the Robin costume from the Batman and Robin movie, that's exactly what I'm going for. Any ideas on materials and how I can pull this off???? thanks :)

Hi everyone! First time on this forum Oo didn't know there was one on cos.com till just now (I usually lurk a disney thread on here and leave) but I do love me some DC cosplay. :3 I've actually cosplayed Black Canary and Cassie from Young Justice and have Catwoman (Hush version might not happen this year we'll see), Young Wondergirl (cassie with the pigtails and goggles) and Robin (Ame Comi) planned about mid year (Dragon*Con namely)

dabiddabird ~ awesome Red Hood. Its nice to see it done right for a change!

Grayson ~ Nice green arrow :3

Cphantasm ~ that Nightwing costumes (while SUPER awesome looking) is most likely molded scilicone or something along those lines (if you're familiar with Shawn Reeves (Reeves666 he makes amazing cowls) it something along the lines of that. But if you can figure out how to do it more power to ya!

gattirenata ~ I've noticed that too....comic book awareness has skyrocketed cosplay wise in the past few years. I attribute it to the Batman games and the influx of superhero movies that came out (and are still coming out...Avengers anyone?). Its cool and kind of irritating at the same time. Like when I planned on doing Catwoman it was before Arkham City came out but as soon as it did BAM at least 5-6 other girls I know are like "I'm going to cosplay Catwoman" and I have this thing I hate cosplaying something a million people are....so I might put mine off for a bit and let the craze die down and just do Robin (steph brown) or Batgirl (also Steph or Cass not sure which one)

Here's the shots I have of my Black Canary. I only have one pic of my Wondergirl because she was pretty last minute and I never got to do a shoot before the costume started falling apart xD

Yeah the comic book cosplay is growing a lot. But I think it is forcing people to be more original in the characters they choose. People new to the activity do the typical costumes like captain america, batman, joker, ect. However more experienced fans are going back and finding more original characters to cosplay.

Plus the new 52 will help too because It gave us redesigns of nearly all the characters in the DC U. Speaking of I can't wait to see what the new Power Girl looks like in March.

I myself am going to do Lex Luthor as an Orange Lantern. The only problem I'm facing is that I have a really bad back. I can't afford to spend all day wearing a 40 pound resin suit of armor and all night moaning in pain and getting no sleep. So I was going to do a buisiness suit Luthor with a ton of orange bits all over, including the eyes. I already got the hair after all :P

Awesome, I love DC! :D

I've cosplayed Zatanna before, and I'm getting ready to debut a Mera cosplay at the end of April (working on my crown template right now!). Now that Mera is almost done, I'll probably set my sights on the Balent-style Catwoman. :3

I've got a giant hit list of characters I'd love to do before I "retire" from this stuff. haha!

So, grew up loving Batman and then got into the Justice League and kinda branched around to learn about all sorts of other characters.
Bats is still my favorite, but I thought I'd like to try out doing some female characters from the DC Universe.

Zatanna is the first that I've been working on. Just waiting for the wig in the mail, and that costume will be complete.

And the second one that I'm planning stages with right now is Harley Quinn.
She was one of my favorite villains from Batman. Her personality is just so fun!

Mera, eh? So you go from cute little Zatana [in my mind] to sexy redhead Mera? Interesting transition...I'm not that fond of the whole catwoman suit in real life, but I did like Jim's penciling of her.

As for me, I'm planning to do Tim Drake's second Robin Costume. Then after that, I'll try an attempt at the Joker...Unique, I know. I would actually love to take my girl to a convention and have myself as Tim and her as Stephanie.

Then I'd take my shot at Nightwing...Can you tell I like the Bat Family? I just like the whole damn family.

I usually almost never post on here but seeing as how this is for comic related things, this compels me to post.

I'm an extremely huge comic fan of DC and Marvel. You know, collecting and reading comics, the like. It's apparent that the world of comics is coming back with a bigger fan base than ever. I absolutely LOVE the Batman: Brave and the Bold cartoon. I love the style and it stays true to the Silver Age. And Aqua man. You have to love what they did with him. The characters are well developed and have a personality all on their own. Not to mention, the main purpose of B&B is to bring back and HIGHLIGHT the B-D list characters like Woozy Winks, Zebraman, Crazy Quilt, Booster Gold and Blue Beetle, Wild Cat, Bat-Mite, Kamandi, Captain Marvel and the Marvel Family, Jonah Hex, Red Hood, Copper Head, Captain Atom, The Freedom Fighters, Gentleman Ghost, etc. Just to name a few. I really wish they would air it again, it was one of the best animated shows out there. I honestly can't stand Young Justice. I'm still a teen myself but I have never cared for any of the hormone rage induced characters. I very much hate the fact that it's nothing but teenage angst. There's nothing at all unique about YJ. I remember watching the writer's take on it and they mentioned something along the lines of, "It's filled with raw emotion, love, and sex. Something that all teenagers go through." Bullshit. As a comic fan and someone who appreciates GOOD character development, I took offense to this. I don't care about any of that. Super Boy, is so unnecessarily testosterone filled up the ass and extremely angsty. NO MI GUSTA. That's incredibly annoying. Not every teenage character has to be that way. And yet, you have all these poser fans (mainly ignorant teens who only like it because it's about teenaged heroes) who ADORE it just because they don't know any better. Like on the DC Nation that CN is doing, why don't they have Brave and the Bold? If anything, that should ALWAYS be on there. More than YJ anyway. The ONLY reason I still watch it is because of Tom Kenny. Tom Kenny has been following Plastic Man which makes me happy because no one can do Plastic Man like him. And I only watch the episodes he's in just to hear him. So I just wish the animated shows were as superb quality as B&B. I'm tired of them making cheap shows like Green Lantern the animated series. They just don't take their time with it. I guess that concludes my rant.

Back to cosplay. I plan on going as Vigilante and Green Arrow in the near future. Both versions from brave and the Bold. And Dove. (Hawk and Dove)

It needs some work, I wasn't too happy with how the mask came out and all that jazz but overall I liked it. I just rewatched the Justice League in it's entirety and now I got a couple DC characters I wanna do like The Crimson Avenger and one of my all time favorites I wanted to do for a long while is Sandman. I so badly want to set up a JSA cosplay group but I don't think that's gonna happen simply because most of my friends don't even know it exists... so for now I'll keep hoping to get a JL group going which isn't looking so great either.

J-tective - You may enjoy reading the original Young Justice title, if you don't enjoy the new show and the comics based on it. It's really funny! Their biggest problems concern dealing with school, family lives, and living up to the legacy of the Justice League. :D

This weekend, I am going to an event to support the Central and North Florida chapter of the Make-A-Wish Foundation where we are dressing like superheroes (the event centers around trying to break the world record for the largest superhero gathering). Since there was no chance that Supergirl or Arrowette would be done with the time allowed (and my current financial situation), I decided to throw together a Wonder Girl costume. Just finished it, and I am pretty happy with it (since I did it on such a tight budget!!).

(If anyone is interested in Saturday's event, go to www.apetrifiedforest.com. It is in Altamonte Springs, FL.)

I went to London MCM Expo this weekend (for the first time in about 3 years) and now I've got a fire in me to make my first cosplay. I'm set on a Robin cosplay. Ideally I want to go as Time Drake, but mostly I'm taking a few aspects from different Robin outfits and tweaking them to make my ideal one. It wont be 100% accurate, but I'd rather put my own spin on it and make something I love then deal with all the things I don't like about a 100% accurate rendition.

There are so many things I need to learn how to do for it though - making masks, sewing a vest, making gloves. Anyone have any tips for these, or know of any tutorials?

Thanks man! I was surprised how well it came out. I saw the mask and decided to build around it. The mask works great actually once you get used to seeing with one eye lol. and I used a heatgear balaclava to reduce the heat. I actually bought heatgear shirt, pants, socks and boxers that really helped with keeping me dry and comfortable throughout the day. It does put a dent in your wallet but luckily I found a good balance between what's functional and a good price.

And my Deathstroke is getting started.

The gun is a simple toy gun that I snagged and painted with Krylon (hammered silver and black).

Balaclava for under the mask.

And the mask itself. It's an Iron Patriot full mask that was made from flimsy PVC. So, I threw on some Wonderflex but unfortunately, it won't yield enough to go over my big head now. So, you'll notice the little line... I plan on cutting it in half with a dremel and spacing it a bit before using a bit more Wonderflex to bridge it together. After that, it's going to get coated with some layers of wood glue.... sanded... and painted...
