I am speechless.
This is amazing...who would've thunk cardboard would be so useful.

I'm also assuming this could be altered a bit to make a bass, correct?
I totally have a cosplay coming up in need of a bass.
:3

God...this is just so awesome!

I'm in the process of making a guitar using your tutorial (which is brilliant) but I ran into a slight snag when using hotglue to make the curved edges. I've smoothed down the glue with the gun tip as advised (which takes forever btw) but I can't seem to do the next step, which is smoothing out that surface with comic back.

The glue just softens a little bit, enough to be sticky and get little bits of comic back stuck to the glue. And it also doesn't make it smooth. I'm scared if I just go ahead with painting it, it would look terrible. Any advice?

Also, I'm thinking of attaching a strap to the guitar. Any ideas on how that would work? I'm thinking of paper fasteners and hotglue.

Why not use real guitar strap pegs? They're real tough and real cheap:

Wow - I love you! I've been tossing around the idea of doing a K-ON! cosplay and one of the main obstacles was getting a guitar/bass (even cheap real ones are too expensive for "prop" purposes). Thanks!

daguru: I was thinking of that, but I'm not sure if my cardboard is durable enough for it to withstand holding in the metal pegs.

Before enclosing the guitar body, place a wad of bondo or filler (or glue a small piece of wood) where the pegs will go. When it comes time to drill holes for the strap pegs, you will be drilling though a solid chunk of bondo.

Ah, too late. I've already covered the body with the cardboard strips. But wouldn't that rip out the cardboard strip along the side? Mine is just glued on with PVA glue...

Hey, sorry to bump an old thread, but I was going through this tutorial, and I need to know: how do you make templates 5, 6 and 7? I know all three are the neck, but it doesn't say anywhere in the tutorial specifically what parts they are.

This is really useful!! However there's one problem, how did you find an image the actual size of your guitar for the master copy? I'm trying to make Mio Akiyama's left handed Bass (fender) but I can't find an actual size picture anywhere please help!!
