So I'm not sure what to think of the new movie yet....but I loved the TV series as a kid! I've been toying with the idea of making either a Lady Jaye or Cover Girl costume, and was wondering if there are any other JOE fans around here ^_-.

Well you know you could always go COBRA!!! :D Sry couldn't help it (see photos) Well I say if you want to knock out a Cover Girl or that red head Ninja Killer Scarlet do it. If not we always have room for a Female Cobra Ninja :p

As far as the movie. Power armor and one Waynes brother is not a mixture for success Now as far as the G.I. Joe: Resolute....O.o ZOMGWTFBBQ off the chain.

@fightstar: Your Cobra is AWESOME! Evil characters are so much fun ^_-. I agree about G.I. Joe: Resolute....it does indeed rule.

I think I'm pretty set on cosplaying Lady Jaye.....but it's really hard to find good pics of her >_<. Plus there are several different versions of her character that have emerged over the years/decades.

I've got a fairly good image collection thus far....but I still can't seem to find any pics of her from the new G.I. Joe: Resolute. I don't remember her in that series, but I have heard that she did make an appearance. Maybe I missed it? Has anyone here come across any Resolute image sites by chance? I'm hoping to study that costume too (if it exists) before I make a final decision ^_^.

Lady Jaye was a silent character in the background in Resolute. She was seen when there was a group shot, but that's about it. From what I remember, she wore her coveralls and had the short red/brown hair. Since she had no close up (or speaking role), you barely got a good look at her.

~H~ - Did you check over at yojoe.com? They have file cards and pictures of Lady Jaye over the years and it's worth a look (http://www.yojoe.com/action/85/ladyjaye.shtml). I also suggest finding a combo of what works for you. Doesn't have to be every detail of the action figure or cartoon. Find a happy medium of the two (or more) sources and see what works for you. I hope that helps.

I can't stand the look of the movie. The only characters that look close to a authentic look is the Baroness and Snake-eyes. Those power suits look ridiculous. It's G.I Joe, not Halo.

But the comics and cartoon versions of G.I JOE are awesome. Everyone should check out G.I Joe Resolute. Fantastic mini series.

I did a pretty obscure character from the Joe team. Barbecue. :) It's great that you're looking into doing a Lady Jaye or Covergirl costume. :)

I have a G.I JOE costuming website/group I'm a part of. I'll pm the link if anyones interested. Pm me if you are.

yojoe.com is a great website for images as well like fightstar said. -nod-

@Lucifer: Ah! So that's where all the controversy comes in. Thank you for the info ^_^.

@fightstar: Thank you for the link! I think I probably will end-up combining some of my favorite aspects from her different costumes over the years. I just hope that it will be recognizable.

@CreativeGuy: Your Barbecue rocks! Thanks so much for the link to your G.I. Joe costuming site. There's some very inspiring work on there ^_^. ....and I tend to agree with you about the movie costumes. I don't have high hopes for that film unfortunately >_<.

I've got two German Shepherds named Duke and Baroness. I'll let you guess if I'm a fan or not. XD

I've considered going a Joe cosplay of some sort, but the only one that really appeals to me is Cobra Commander. There's a guy at some cons that has the PERFECT Commander costume though, so I don't dare compete. I also met a great Shipwreck and Baroness at Dragon*Con last year.

I have been a huge GI JOE fan since I was little. Both Resolute and the original series blow GI Joe Extreme and Dic's version out of the water. The movie I am going to watch despite what the critics say.

I would love to cosplay as either Flint or Falcon. The question I want to know is where can I get a patch for Flint's Beret.

~H~
05-14-2009, 02:11 PM
@Count Metal: Which version of Flint were you thinking about cosplaying as? I know that there are several Beret patches on eBay....and you might be able to use one found there. This is the only good shot of the patch I was able to find offhand:

My Snake-Eyes is kind of taking things from different incarnations...

I too hate the look of the movie. There are so many things they could have done!!

I am only looking forward to it because I've been a fan for so long, and I'm curious to see Sienna Miller having seen her in The Edge of Love... And I do NOT like Ray Park, so I was kind of bummed that he's playing my all-time fave.

so my sword is done... I'm not going to make a sheath for it, as I'm short and I made it a tad too big for me to pull it out from one if I have it on my back. I have a holster that I will be putting it in, and can for the most part get it in myself...

the handle is red with black ribbon criss-crossing it...

should I paint the blade 'metal'? if that, shiny or I was thinking 'gun metal'? or black? I after painting it gun metal, then a brushed metal (needs a few coats of paint anyway) I thought perhaps the black to look like it is sheathed when it's on my back or to have the 'cool black ninja stealthy black blade' thing? Opinions?

Good thing patches are not hard to take off! Anymoo, Wow that's looks really great, Drackt! Are you wearing it to the premiere?

@Romey- It kinda looks similar to patter I used for the Baroness trench. You could use a jacket pattern like I did and make sure the front does that overlap thing, and in the back it reminds me of those suits with the tails. I think a jacket/trench pattern with some modifications can do well. Well if I haven't confused you I hope that helps. ^^

I am a fan of Joe and fell in love with resolute. I ended up making myself a storm shadow costume that I will be debuting at Anime USA of Storm Shadow. @Amaddy I haven't made the breast plate, just used a catsuit of shiny vinyl for the first version. The second is the coat version from the movie. I think if you know some stormtrooper guys you can ask about making a black breastplate cause I think it is made the same way.

I'm not sure, I think you can make it from vinyl maybe you can use some pieces from a padded suit you see at a sporting store to add to the catsuit?

Hope that helps guys, looking forward to seeing your costumes!

The movie wasn't AS bad as I expected, but it was pretty bad...

Regardless, for the premiere of 2 (which should be in the works by now and will hopefully be an improvement on 1, though I can't IMAGINE how they'll salvage the Baroness. WTF!), my bf and I plan to be Snake Eyes and Scarlett. I'm torn over whether I want to be movie-accurate or comics-accurate...I'm thinking comics at this point; one of her newer designs, or maybe a mix of both. I heard some love for Resolute in this thread, and I add to it! Resolute was BOSS and the whole Snake Eyes vs Storm Shadow scene was ridiculously awesome.

Anyway, has anyone seen Sigma 6? It's like a Yu-Gi-Oh! style anime of G.I. Joe and it's pretty bad. Okay, it's very bad. But as much as I hate Scarlett's design with the immensely long hair, I do like the red and black getup.......and in one episode, Snake Eyes wears green for a jungle mission and MAN he's channeling the Master Chief, I tell ya...it looks rad!

Also, Moon Prince, your costume is awesome! But why do you hate Ray Park? I love Ray Park! Just curious....

Moon Prince

Moon Prince: Oh, I wasn't aware of any attitude issues with him during Star Wars but in a recent interview I saw of him, he was adorably sweet. It just goes to show you that Hollywood stars are bipolar, lololol.

Regardless, I loved the look of the rubber from the movie...it would just be OMFGHOT and also hard to move, as Ray Park said himself...so I think I'm going to settle with a workout shirt style. It depends on what would look best on my bf. For Scarlett, augh...I'm so torn. I want to do black to be recognized by the new fans, but I LOVE her older designs with the yellow/blue/red. SIIIIIIIIGH.

I met Ray Parks two times and will be meeting him again next month. It's hard to say if he really did have some inflated ego during Ep1 cause I first met him in 2000 he was very sweet and then met him after he played Toad and again he was very nice.
But I guess you'd have to have a recording like Christian Bale to really know. :crylaugh:

Well I'm still working on what to make the armor out of, and while I'm doing that, I'm deciding on colors. I'm seriously leaning toward comics...because as I look at the black one, it's so plain. I'll probably be mistaken for Jean Grey from the X-men movies =/

@ Souba, Thanks so much for your reply!! I think I may end up going for a fencing chest protector. I don't know anyone who makes stormtrooper costumes:(

Hooray for someone reviving this thread!!!

So I got my Scarlett wig but it had entirely too much dark brown in it, so I used the sharpie-dye method to spray-dye it more red. It looks MUCH better now =) I also decided on doing her comics version, because the black is just too lackluster for my tastes...and I don't want to be mistaken for Jean Grey. I got my blue bodysuit in the mail, so I'll start the alterations on that soon...and the armor, oh boy, the armor. I'm excited to get to work on that. The version I picked has her wearing upper-torso armor, so that'll be a challenge =3

And finally, I'm totally FANGIRLING because I found out that Ray Park will be at Megacon, where I originally intended to wear the costume. I spent half the afternoon squealing in delight, lol. I wonder if he allows fans to get pictures with him, even for a price. Some celebs are all about pics, some only allow you to take pics OF them, not with them, and some don't allow pics at all. I know he doesn't mind video, because there's oodles of con footage of him on YouTube, but I wonder about pics. Because I'd just about freak out if I had a pic of my bf dressed as Snake Eyes next to the REAL Snake Eyes.

Hi.

I just saw this thread while searching for G.I.Joe cosplay images, and it's good to see more Joe and Cobra costumes being made out there.

I have a few costumes I want to do down the road, such as the version 1, 3, and Resolute versions of Snake Eyes, Resolute Storm Shadow (I'll have to find a way to cover my tattoos on my right arm, though), and Flint (most likely the Resolute version), and Resolute Zartan. (Anyone notice a pattern here?).

The only problem is that I need to save up for prescription goggles; contact lenses just haven't worked out for me (oh well). Plus, I'm trying to tone up a bit (I've been frequently sick since the last year I was in school, so I'm not in very good shape).

I cosplayed Cobra Commander to UCon at UConn this past month. It was a small con, but by the end of Saturday the con was unofficially Cobra-Con. I had like... 100 people shouting "Cobra" and "Hail Cobra" It was awesome. When I was selected judge for the cosplay court case (that was awesome, totally unexpected, I thought i would be cast as criminal.) anyway, I raised my right arm in classic cobra pose, and 100 people simultaneity cried Cobra, then one guy yelled Yo Joe, and a silence fell across the room as EVERYONE looked at him until he said "....cobra?" It was so cool. Defiantly my favorite cosplay of all time.

The costume suit was store bought, but was badly made, so we redid it, adding the cape, under-the-helmet mask, new gloves, and combat boots.

I've also done Storm Shadow, but since I do Commander now, the role has passed to my girlfriend, who has also done Snake-Eyes

In two weeks Connecticon is coming up, and I now have a bigger group going with me. Already have a Baroness, Storm Shadow, Zartan, maybe a Mindbender, and a few Troopers. Gonna take over that con, even have actual speeches written and practiced. Can't wait guys, I am so taking over this convention^_^

Just wanted to pop into this thread and say hi. I am planning a Scarlett cosplay for next year. Just can't get it done this year, but as a HUGE Joe fan and an owner of all 155 (and a half!) Marvel comics, I just have to do that costume one of these days! I'm tickled to see others still interested in these guys, too. I love them more than just about any characters ever. Comic versions only, though, for me.

Thanks! And exactly. The movie stuff was boring. Also, I'm a comic purist when it comes to Joe. (The only Snake-Eyes origin is from issue #26, etc. Do I enjoy the others? Sure! But which do I choose as my personal canon? The Real American Hero comics from Marvel.) I'll probably go with something in the old G.I. Joe #1 lines: http://videoeta.com/images/news/scarlett_gi_joe_drawing.jpg

Nice details! I showed your costume to my husband and he wanted to know: Why Beachhead? I told him because he's awesome and not overdone, but who knows if I'm right? Thoughts? We're just curious.

p.s.-can't wait to see your Hawkeye.

jackwabbit: I hear ya! I did Scarlett from America's Elite because her original comic and cartoon costumes are done a lot...but I definitely understand the viewpoint of a purist =) The new movie really irritated me. The costumes were so plain, the acting was generally crappy and the plot...ew. Since when is the Baroness Cobra Commander's sister? And Zartan's design made me want to puke. What happened to my sexy, burly Australian with those awesome face-markings? The best thing in that movie was Ray Park ;P

And speaking of, for anyone interested, I did get to meet Ray Park at Megacon...and he was a doll <3 : http://www.cosplay.com/photo/2480254/

I met him again at Star Wars Weekends and he remembered me ^^ Pic of that on here soon, too, lol.

I'll be wearing Scarlett again for NYCC in October, but in the meantime, I'll be doing an original formal version of Scarlett for Metrocon's Fantasy Masquerade. My bf is going as formal-ified Snake Eyes and my friends are going as formal Storm Shadow and Baroness. It should be pretty awesome! =D

That sums it up; he's not overdone, the character is written well and unlike alot of the other Joes all you see are eyes. If you've got fair features and put in some serious effort on the costume you can just about nail it, and I'm a big fan of being as accurate as possible.

Understood on your version, too! And that pic with Ray Park? Awesome!

Ah...the movie. I don't have time to go there right now. Was it the worst thing ever? No. But did I get confused often? Yes. (Duke isn't enlisted? What? How random. I mean, change things if you must, but do it for a reason...whatever. There were things I liked and things I didn't but overall, I still liked seeing my old Joe friends on the big screen, even if I do have a rant or ten in me about it.) Your formal group sounds like tons of fun, btw!

I know I'm new here.
But is anyone planning on attending the Canadian G.I. Joe Convention in Toronto on August 7th?

I want to attend as Storm Shadow, but don't know if anyone else will be there in gear?

The information is at www.canadianjoecon.com

So I was putting together various pieces of costumes the other day for a cosplay picnic, and eventually I came up with this (http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=30781001&l=437366cdcf&id=195501323) The helmet is actually blue, but for desired effect I colored black on the computer. Now what would you think of this as a variant of the traditional Cobra Commander costume?
I mean, the coat has a military style and look. I would probably change the gloves, and go with ones that match the outfit's color and metal scheme.
The helmet, well I have to get a new helmet anyway, when I do, I could just paint the old one. For the Cobra symbol I would get a Cobra belt buckle.

That looks absolutely perfect, Volnixshin. I love the color and the details on the coat. It's a perfect choice for a variant on the normal Cobra Commander and has more of a formal flare to it. Very nice.

I'm just getting back into G.I. Joe myself, which I have fond memories of. I haven't yet decided whose costume I might do although my costuming partner has indicated the desire to make a Cobra Commander costume at some point in the near future so I'll probably make a Cobra costume myself, though which character is stumping me at the moment.

I prefer black over blue anyhow. When was the last time your Vipers beat a guy blue-and-black?

I saw you at AB! I love your Cobra Commander.

For my next costume I decided I really want to do Baroness. I know she's overcosplayed, but I just love her character and I think it'd be a good fit for me. I want to do the old-school cartoon version, but I'm not sure what kind of fabric to use. In the cartoon it doesn't look shiny at all. I was thinking a matte stretch vinyl. Suggestions?
