Is it true that there was a "free" anime convention hosted in New Orleans this year? I heard (by rumor/gossip) that there was, but I'm not sure what it was called or where in New Orleans it was held.

Yup. It's true.

Numa Rei-No Con in Kenner, LA. They had about 2000 or so people attend.

I'm not positive, but I think so. I haven't really heard any news about next year being definite or what the plans may be, but the staff was very excited about this year's turnout and sounded like they'd like to go forth next year.

I'm a member of the staff. The next time NRNC will be hosted is Dec. 12-14th-where, I have no clue. Odin, one of the co-founder's of the con, has recently open up a store in Metarie at 3939 Veterans Blvd Suite 212 (I think that's the right suite #). I'd be more than happy to participate in your cosplay next year. PM me the details and I'll pass it along to a few of my cosplay associates.

Also, If you haven't heard, there's officially an anime club in New Orleans as well. It's called NOA and their addy is http://www.no-a.org ---I think the site is currently down thought, but I know they'll have a table at CoastCon Jr. to sell wears for the club.

Okay, here's the official up to the minute details that shouldn't change. Dec 12-14 2003, at Quality Hotel and Conference Center in Metarie, LA, (504)833-8211, rooms are $59 dollars a night when you mention that you're with NRNC. The con was moved from the Pontchartraine Center due to requests for it to be moved to a hotel. And yes, its still a free con.
