hey guys! I have planned on cosplaying Yuffie in her FF7 costume, but I'm having trouble with her armor ... well, the armor on her right arm in particular. I haven't a clue what would work best to make this.
here's a picture: http://kupo.whonotwhere.com/image/other/yuffarmorcrap.jpg
could anyone help? I'd really appreciate some advice ^.^!

ya it looks like leather, cause it moves in the game. yup, i'm convinced its horse leather. I can make it for you if you pay for the materials that I need, and I can hand deliver it too where in colorado do you live. if its to far I could give it to you at the shoot at ndk or we could meet friday.
p.s. I'm a pretty good leather smith so it will turn out good

leather, eh? I hadn't considered using that. I'll keep your offer in mind, though I think I might try a few things on my own first ^.^!

Good, I allways say you have to do it on your own get help. I'll make another one just in case and I'lll lend it to you if you didn't quite like your results.
ok :drink: :drink: :drink: :bigtu:

The Arm thingy I made out of card board and a grandma bag o_O;; Well because the color looked the same. But I have no pics of it now, I'll try to get pics up. BuuuuuuuuT if someone has an idea on the shoulder armor....

You can Use SINTRA. Its a type of plastic, but when you boil it it becomes bendable you can make all sorts of things. All you have to do to make it hard again is put it under room temperature water.

I used fiberglass for the shoulder armour... it was my first time using it and it wasn't too bad, and ended up being nice and sturdy.
Used a pillow form for the arm thing... I thought leather would be cool too, but I ended up running out of time and just using regular fabric.

ya fiberglass would work.

i have cosplayed as yuffie from ff7
i know my costume isnt verry good but I made my armour out of a polystyrene ball ^^
its pretty simple you cut one half into two quarters, paint it with silver color, glue silver-foil on it and press some rivets on it
complete it looks like this

thats pretty cool

hey wow! great ideas, but..where can I get all this stuff? o_O
08-24-2003, 05:47 AM
uhm *dont know the english word* in handkraft-shops?
08-24-2003, 08:55 AM
yeah you can find just about anything in craft stores. fiberglass I got in a kit at the hardware store, cost about $10-15 dollars and had everything you'd need but safety goggles in it.
For the metal thingy at the top, you can do what I did for my Cloud shoulder armor. I feel bad though cause I can't remember who suggested this idea to my before, but if they are reading this, then credit goes to you!
Anyway, the idea is to get a basketball, cut it in half, or quarter or whatever shape you need, turn it inside out and paint it. I have to warn you though that when I first did it, the paint came off very easily cause it was over rubber, so either use a primer first, or use some glaze stuff after you paint it.

My mom:"just use paper mache or something!"
..would that actually work?
I tried paper mache and it just fell apart. it wasn't sturdy enough.

I guess if you know how to work with paper mache it'll work, one of my friend made her presea armour out of paper mache http://www.chaos-cosplay-team.de/_presea-cos2.jpg

*shrug* I doubt paper mache would be comfortable or easy to move in anyway >.o;

LOL. The little knob thing at the bottom looks like a detergent cap painted black. ^_^;; Hope that helps.
I agree with the guy who said to use leather, though not everybody has a budget for leather. So, you might want to try either suede or moleskin, both of which are a little pricey, but not nearly as expensive as leather.
Umm... As for the shoulder thing, you might want to play around with craft foam. *shrugs* not too sure on that one...

lol, I was gonna use a spray can lid for the knob-thing X3 I've fiddled with it, and I've got the shoulder pad made out of an old ball that I painted.. but I still gotta make the big arm thing. I'll check out moleskin and suede, thanks for the suggestion :3

yikes! my local fabric store didn't have the greatest selection... no leather, moleskin, or suede -_-; would vinyl work? could I put that over some sort of frame over my arm maybe?
09-12-2003, 11:14 PM
alrriiiiighty! I got the armor done! I sortof did what kell did and took some material (vinyl, to be exact) and covered some soft padding.. sorta. Thanks for the help everybody :3!! <3<3<3

i just made a yuffie costume this past week for the arm thing i took kaki foam/fabric and sewed it around the shape of the thing wich i made by bending wire hangers, the sholder armor i made by taking moldable wire mesh sewing fabric around it and spraying it sliver, the thing on her chest with the belts i made of two belts a wire hanger and fabric/silver spray paint and it looks awsome!

I sorry for sudden question, but...
How can you make Yuffie's left arm leather like thingy not look too limp or floppy? :lost: Is there something good for inner/lining supporter I can use?
12-19-2004, 03:26 AM
I made a yuffie costume!!! =DD!!
For the shoulder thing, I used these plaster strips that I found at a local craft store and just put some paper mache on top of that. and for the arm thing I just sewed it out of some fabric and stuffed it with a bit of cotton. (if you want to see how it came out just look at pics in my gallery, or at my costumes)
