View Full Version : Let's talk about Robert.

Okay, so on Saturday night, Nessa and I walked along Sierra Highway back to the AVI together. As we were walking, two people stopped us along the way. The man said, "Excuse me, hi. I'm Robert, and this is my wife. How are you doing tonight." He extended his hand, but I didn't shake it. (Mistake #1: Don't just suddenly introduce me and expect me to shake your hand. You're a complete stranger; tell me what you want first. I mean, seriously...) Then he said to us, "I'm sorry, but our car broke down. All we need is 3 dollars, please." (Mistake #2: Your car broke down and you're asking for 3 dollars? For what?!) We told the man as politely as we could that we didn't have 3 dollars. Then Robert said, "Listen, we're not bums. All we need is 3 dollars." (Mistake #3: The biggest clue you can give anyone that you're a bum is saying that you're not.) I was getting very annoyed by Robert, so I reached into my pocket and took out all I had, which was 50 cents. Robert had a disappointed and reluctant look on his face, as if he wanted to squeeze me for even more money, but he finally took it and left with his "wife."

And here's the best part. I saw my friend Jason a little later, and he said he left a few minutes after Nessa and I did, so he was right behind us. Jason encountered Robert and his "wife" as well, but that time, they were eating nachos. Nachos. NACHOS. Well, at least my 50 cents went to good use, I guess...

You know what I should've said to those two? I should've said, "I'm sorry, I don't have any money. But you know what? If you go right there to the Desert Inn lobby, I'm sure one of the employees there can assist you in some way." I mean, what would they say? They couldn't exactly pester me for money after that, could they?
Or better yet, and I discussed this with a couple of friends, I should've totally scared Robert and his "wife" away. As they were asking for money, I should've yelled a loud, high-pitched scream. Then I should've posed like Zappa from Guilty Gear XX and acted like I was all possessed. That would've been so cool.

I know it's not exactly the best thing to talk about, but hey, it's certainly been a unique experience. Whenever I think of Ani-Magic 2002, I'll always think of those two.

Yeah, I'm weird...

OKay...U have to post my lame 7-11 story! Just cause! Okay, I went into 7-11 on Friday....because I needed to find safety pins.... Well, I go in and I'm standing in line. And the clerk is like "last night I got into this fight. And the dude he hit me with this bottle." and then the clerk showed this one guy his scar and was like "And then I tried to stab him, but there were a bunch of other people there." And I'm just standing in line like O_O This must be the most ghetto 7-11 ever.

Heck yeah, they were hella scary. It reminded me of that time I went out in the streets of downtown L.A. at night in cosplay. A bum went up to us and asked for change. At least that's what I think, because I could not understand half of what the person was mumbling. And to this day, I do not know whether it was a man or a woman. But it wasn't all that scary, because we were in a large group, and Hai could've protected us with his big Auron sword. ^_^ Robert and his "wife," however, freaked me out like hell.

I would've gone to that 7-Eleven, and I had many chances to, but each time I was in cosplay, and I would've felt really really embarrassed to walk in there in my costume...

the first AM I went to the 7-Eleven in costume and a young girl asked me why I was dressed up.

While I was watching the masquerade from the side of the stage, some random guy came up to me and asked if it (the masquerade) was a '...show that the hotel ran every weekend.' I just gave him a strange look and he said that he's never been here before and just wandered in...

0_o Ooookkayyy...I just told him it's an annual event here and walked away. He just looked so creepy...

Heh...I almost forgot to add. I got stopped by a few 'think they know everything' fanboyz, who pointed out alot of mistakes on my Cid Highwind costume on Saturday!! Stupid stuff like...

Fanboy #1: Oh, you shouldn't wear shades...Cid doesn't wear shades at all!!
Me: I have wear my perscription shades outside 'cause the sunlight hurts my eyes a bit...

Fanboy #2: Cid's hair is blonde, not white!
Me: The dye is blonde...it becomes white after awhile...

Fanboy #3: You should get a wig and wear some contacts, like all the other cosplayers out there!
Me: Contacts bother my eyes since they're sensitive and I hate wigs at all!! And I'm not 'like all the other cosplayers out there!!'

Fanboy #2 again: Where's Cid's patch w/ his last name on it?? And who made that jacket...it's so crappy-made! I know someone who could re-do it for ya...
Me: SHUT THE F*CK UP...YOU @$$CLOWNS!! (I didn't really say that...I wanted to, though)

Basically, after they said that, I just scoffed a bit, dogged them (Neo-ish, from The Matrix) and walked off! Damn it, I know my Cid jacket isn't really 'all that' and I'm not the best damn costume maker, but I do the best I can...and after almost a month's work on him, they have the gaul to point out the mistakes?? Sheesshh...whatever, man...

Man...some fanboyz just don't have lives.

I actually had no problems cosplaying while shopping at 7-11, except that the guy behind the counter thought that my buddy DK (who wasn't wearing a costumes in any way shape or form, mind you) was supposed to be Majin-Bu. Anyway, after that, we just chatted with the guy for a while, and after about 5 minutes, he gave us all sorts of free food because "usually no one talks to him".

Some girl asked me if I was Freddie Prinze, Jr. I said, "Nah, I'm much better-lookin'." >=D

I can't STAND people who feel they have to critisize your costume for it's imperfections. YES...the costume isn't perfect. YES...I know that. THANKS for rubbing it in.

There really is a line that can be drawn between constructive criticism and just trying to show off your costume knowledge libido.

dude you should have said " you know what.. you are wasting my time.. in fact.. u just wasted 3 minutes of my time" then look at your watch while gena and chrissy comes out and pushes them in the pool.. lol that would be funny.

Uwaaa... Horrible :p Know what? Next time some odor-enhanced fanboy starts ragging on your costume, ask them where -THEIR- costume is. Oh. That's right. Odds are they aren't wearing one. Because they're scrubs :p

I can't stand when some pathetic excuse for a human being, who has enough time to memorize a series word for word, but apparantly not enough time to pick up a bar of soap, starts picking someone's costume apart.

I guess they don't realize that we all have to start somewhere. And if someone's costume dosn't match up to their personal standards of "perfect" well, 95% of the time, they were never even asked their opinion anyway. Why is it that the people whose opinions nobody cares about, are too often the first ones to offer them up?? *grumble* Mreh. That just bothers me. Especially when someone obviously tried their best. Ah well.

._. The 7-11... Hehee, it was an adventure. A bunch of us traipsed over, some of us in costume, some of us not. I was asked if I was Alice in Wonderland. Without thinking, I answered, "No, I'm Iris Chateaubriand from Sakura Taisen, musical version." and was promptly rewarded with a blank stare. Yay ^^;;

Denny's was fun. We were sitting across the way from a couple of kids in a booth who got closer and closer to the wall away from us as the meal went on. I wondered if they were going to try to jump out the window ^^;; Did anyone else have a Nyquil Sundae?? Jean-Paul liked it! I'll have to post pictures of him being fed, while in the highchair at the table ^___^

Wait, were you the person asking about if my hat was Kurt Angle's 3 I's?? I forgot...^_^;;

10-08-2002, 09:32 PM
We were on our way to Lancaster. Everyone we asked for directions said go straight on this road. So we did, little did we know we ened up in Victorville. - -0. Wo we drive all the way back and ask again, and this guy kept saying "taker her to the road and turn. Turn on her on the road. TURN ON HER!" we just baaacked away and left. Then we went to a store thinking they would know. So we asked someone there. They kept saying, "Go straight" well duh we HAVE been going straight...so we do. It was suppose to take us 2 and a half hours to get to Lancaster from Temecula. We got there in 5 hours....

Um...well, I went to the 7-11 on Sunday (?) and we got a slurpee. The guy with me got one of those funky ones where you're supposed to fill one part with slushee, the other with some sort of soda. The guy at the counter was kinda complaining about how everyone gets slushee all over the place and that we were some of the few who didn't make a mess. xX

i cant blame anyone for being interested in kitty... cat calls arent appropriate though.

What are you implying? Or couldn't you tell it was a joke? Manda and Kitty both know it is...cause they were there when the incident at 7-11 happened...our own inside joke......

10-09-2002, 09:31 PM
Yeah part of the prob. is that the AVI is not in the, *ahem*, premium location in town... we had a long chat with the hotel security guard in the wee hours of early Sunday morning about it - he had some pretty hair-raising stories to tell about the weirdos and bums who come through.

The cops stop off at that 7-11 frequently too; they asked us what was going on at the hotel, a party? No, a convention, we told them.

No one gave me S--- about going to 7-11 in costume even late at night though, 'cause I went in the black leather "dun mess w/me" gear. (And I guess mebbe also because I walk like a martial artist, heh)

10-09-2002, 11:26 PM
I walk like a man!! XD

Ok. No I don't. Jean Paul and Nando-oniichan had to protect Irisuu ._.; Kowai! ;_;

10-10-2002, 01:47 AM
You know it's funny, because I was walking around on Sunday night, (after the con ended) and the AVI security guard told me it's not really safe to walk to 7 Eleven or around the convention center on my own after 10 p.m.

He told me that he tried very hard to keep the AVI safe during the con and I told him that I appreciate his efforts. ( Having worked in the security business before... I know what he must going thru.)

My return flight was on a Monday morning so I couldn't leave on Sunday.

The panhandling incidents reminds me of Anime Expo 1997 when Panhandlers right outside the hotel were claiming that they were "robbed" and they "needed money to call home".

One of the worst panhandlers were in the San Diego Gaslamp Quarters during the San Diego Comic Con. One panhandler said to me in an angry tone that "I KNOW you got some money!" ( I felt like saying "Yeah, but none of it is for deadbeats!" )

Doh! I had the worst problems at Comic Con San Diego too, except they weren't after my money, they wanted my entry pass! There was a crowd of middle school looking boys practically lined up asking people for their passes.

Kid: "Hey, girl, can I have your pass?"
Me: "No."

Kid: "Can I just borrow it?"
Me: "No."

Kid: "I'll be out in five minutes. Promise!"

Little brat followed me for like a block. I just wanted to buy a drink outside...sheesh...
