Hi there!

I've never made big props before. I'm using Jiajem's paperclay tutorial for the armor but the sword and shield I'm completely lost on. I was thinking of layering a bunch of Lionboard from Cosmode for the sword or getting the help of a friend to carve it from wood.

If all else fails I'll just commission them, but I really wanted to give it a try for myself.

Help?

Ehhhhhh I don't know anything about wood...AND! YES...I will suggest what i always use hahaha.
You could try foam core OR something new...cardboard! xO.
But you could go around those lines.
For the sword I would insert a dowel inside to keep it secure, as paper clay for the basic
designs ^_^.
For the shield I would suggest using cardboard. I know they have tutorials on shields around here.

I was hoping you'd answer ^.^

I was also considering paperclay. One of my friends suggested carving pink foam and putting a rod inside of it. Then covering it with paperclay.

I just made http://www.freewebs.com/armoredassassins/knightman%20gif.gif the shield in that picture and basically what I did was I took some pink insulation foam and used a power sander to get it down to the right shape/thickness.

After that you just bondo, guesso, wood glue, whatever you want to to seal the foam and then paint. Not too hard but you will be sanding for a very long time so be ready for that.

Yeah I know a lot of people use that, I however have not tried it yet : P. So...I don't have
any clue on advice on that ^_^. I'm sure you can figure it out.

I'd suggest looking at this tutorial (http://trsrockin.com/link.html#shield) for the shield, and this one for the sword (http://trsrockin.com/mastersword.html).
