View Full Version : Scouter Eyepiece?

How you you guys go about making the eye piece for a Dragon Ball scouter?

The last scouter I had was one of the Japanese toy ones and was a red Freeza saga one. Ideally I'd like to make my own scouter, and while I can easily make the base over a headphone, I'm not sure how to go about making the glass eyepiece.

Here's a reference picture:

Now, I don't want it to look cheap, but I don't exactly have a workshop or anything avaialble either. Ideally, I'm looking for a solution that can be done in the average home with average tools.

I'd really appreciate any help.

For the eye piece you could use Acrylic plastic and just bend it where it needs.

OK, I'll have to look into those. Are they relatively easy to work with? I'm guessing I'd need a dremel or something to cut the basic shape with, but for bending it, do I just apply heat to it?

Yeah a dremel would be the right way to go :]. Uhmm once you get the shape you need, I heat mine up in an electric oven. I've done this with my Kamina glasses and it tends to bend very easily. For a small piece like probably keep in for 1-2 minutes.

Just be prepared for people to randomly shout "WHAT DOES THE SCOUTER SAY ABOUT HIS POWER LEVEL? (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TBtpyeLxVkI)" at you. :-D

For my Bulma costume I plan on making one too! Starting with a headset is a great idea! I already own light-weight sculpy in white for the ear piece, and I think using a green-tinted lens from sunglasses or adhering green acrylic gels (transparencies) to plastic would be good.

I'm also making one of these. :) For the eyepiece, I bought a cheap craft drawer set at Wal-mart made out of green plastic. The reason I chose that item was because A) the plastic was fairly transparent, B) the sides of the drawers were as close to right angles as possible, and C) the thickness and quality of the plastic was way better than what I could get anywhere else that I looked.

After I had made my measurements and drawn an outline of the piece I wanted, I cut the thing out of the drawer, leaving a lot of room around the edges, and then dremelled that thing into submission. I'll upload a photo of the result when I get home, but since the scouter itself isn't finished yet, I dunno if it's really worth it. I've only got the plastic eyepiece so far... but I like the fact that I paid so little for it and how easy it was to make. :p

Here are the pics of what I've been working on. It's still unfinished and rough for now, but I've got the shape dremelled out at least. :p I left a nice big chunk to attach to the earpiece, too.
