View Full Version : Garrus Vakarian Dress Up Assistance

Don't think Garrus Vakarian would classify as a "Cosplay" per say, and more as a dress up but I was wondering if anyone had any input on how to do the armour.

My plans were to make it out of foam or something. Plop on Bondo and sand it down to the shape. Then throw Wonder Flex or something similar ontop, however I see no real way to break down the armour in workable pieces per say.

If anything I'll just make his Mass Effect 2 outfit which is easier to work with but it's not as cool per say.

I've also got an idea on how to do his head, and of course the mouth will have to be a seperate piece.
I'm using
this guide (http://evancampbell.deviantart.com/art/Mask-Making-Tutorial-Part-1-128952591) as a basis on how to make masks.
Doesn't seem too hard to make a sculpture of his head (http://img175.imageshack.us/img175/6906/garrusbe3.jpg)
Although I'll probably make a mould of my own head first and build upon it.

This might totally flop of course so I'm going to work with the head first once the materials come in to see if I can muster a working costume.

If you can pull this off...

...You will become the coolest person who has ever lived.

Darn...Slight hiccup...
The mask will not cover my ears... Garrus doesn't have ears...
My goal was to go as close to the original as possible and Garrus with Ears seems a bit off... However covering my ears increases the size of the mask as well as muffles my ability to hear...
Choices... >.<

The mask you are planning on doing - is it just going over your face, or over your entire head? I'd recommend doing a full-head mask (like shown in that tutorial you linked to - except you would probably just make the top half of your face, the back of your head, and your neck. then you would have a jaw prosthetic). Just tuck your ears into a wig/bald cap and wear the mask over that. It is rather uncomfortable, and yes will muffle the sound, but it shouldn't make it more noticeably bulky.

I agree. Garrus is by far my favorite Mass Effect character and a costume of him would be badass.

Yes, Im not the only one trying this suicidal costume! I dont have access to all my sources right now, but Ill post some stuff that may be of use to you when I can. If youre up to it, I think we should bounce ideas off eachother as we progress. Im actually ordering the clay I need to sculpt everything tomorrow.

As for stuff concerning the costume itself... The detail is what will kill you, there are so many fine lines and notches on the armor that it borderlines ridiculious. Not to mention if you plan on incorporating the lights into it.

Basically I was going to break it down like this:
-Head Prosthetic
-Face Prosthetic
-Jaw Prosthetic
-Body Suit
-Chest Piece
-Shin Plate/Boot-hybrid-things
-Thigh Plates

A nice little check list for a turian costume :)

Also, here is the "official" Mass Effect cosplay thread I made: http://www.cosplay.com/showthread.php?t=187086

Pretty much everyone in there (other than me, lol) has made a Mass Effect costume or has one in the works. I recommend checking out HMWSG X's stuff, she rocks at ME cosplay.

I also plan to cosplay Garrus, perhaps we could swap ideas and share our triumphs and failures?
