I'm planning a cosplay as a arcobaleno from reborn and i wanted to make the pacifier. Is there some method to use besides paper mache as i want the color to look as if it would glow maybe through the use of a colored transparent material...

Can you provide us with a reference picture?

Not the most accurate idea in the world, but you could use Ring Pops? If you don't end up eating them before the end of the day...:toothy:

I shall provide references, even though it is not my thread! >w<
I actually was wonding this for a later cosplay, not that it protains to me at all right now, it'd still be nice to know some ideas for when it does come around =P
Reborn (the pacifier is around his neck)

Colonello (it looks like Reborns, only blue X3)

all the different colors (though the actual coloration is a bit dark, its still accurate =P

Er...do you mean something like this (http://rinovelty.com/index.cfm/fuseaction/products.detail/item/JNPANE7/pacifier_necklace)?

I've made two different one;s for my colonello cosplay.

Light blub
- do not remend,, but I bought a large circle bulb from home Depo and painted that. But I was terrified the whole time of dropping it, or falling.

Christmas Bulb
- I found a semi-clear shiny large blue christmas bulb at a dollar store and this was worked the best.

we made tsunas xburner gloves out of resin, it turned out really good the light reflects perfectly..and u can buy some molding clay and make ur mold. i think the examples were good ones tho..the ring pops could be too boxy and the other ones are shaped too real like. the archabalenos are super round (in my opnion). any how..that could work.

I was thinking of casting the pacifer for Uni out of resin, but finding the appropriate mold for that and stuff might take a little bit of work (bu gosh, that would look really nice~)

Easier way to make it would be using polymer molding clay, roll it into a ball, and make the handle dunk it into paint so that it's even, bake, and then dunk it into high gloss, so that its at least nice and shiny. :]

hope that helps?

I did some research and I found out that casting the spherical part of the pacifiers out of resin would work pretty well. But i need to know what is the best mold to make a spherical object and can i take an object made from resin and put another layer of resin around the first layer.
as in i first want to make a sphere out of resin let it cure and harden then put into into more resin and let that cure. also for Lal Mirch's pacifier how would i make the design in the center of it?

hmm for lals u can try either transfersheets or like..wax paper? and print the design that way then if u have access to a laminating machine u can laminate it then when the resin is starting to settle place it there (make it in halves) then add the other half of resin. that way when you place ur finally desired coat of resin you wont be able to see the dividing line. iono just a suggestion. (it looked like it work in my head :P) and for the spherical shape u can try using a ballon as your "objected to be molded" but barely blow it up, then use..whatever it is u plan to use for your mold, let that settle, pop your ballon then tah dah..instant mold? itll be a trial and error type of thing :/ regardless good luck

Hmm, Thanks for the ideas I also want to know what materials would make bad molds for polyester resin?

I want to make pacifiers like these...

err.. do you mean GOOD molds?

Check out your arts and crafts store. They usually have this stuff that you can make the molds out of... it's this: http://shop.hobbylobby.com/products/mold-builder-liquid-latex-30452/

You just need to find something that has a sphere shape of the diameter that you want and try it out.

&&for the design, usually you print the image out and just stick it inside the resin before it cools, and push it out towards the edge so that its clearer to see.

thanks for the tip on mold building material, I figured i would have to make a mold so i was thinking of using two different sizes of marbles and how would i make the mold because I have to put stuff in the resin.

Hello guys! A friend of mine came to me for help with her Uni cosplay, and I'm sort of new at this resin thing. I just have a couple of sort of nooby questions, haha.

1) How will you tint the resin? I was under the impression that the resin was transparant/white, so would you paint it and then cast it again?

2) What about the top upside-down-T part? The part that holds the sphere part of the pacifier? How would you make that, or stick it into the resin?

Thanks!

A youtube tutorial that I followed to make a pacifier. The pacifier is a little big, but if you use a smaller ornament ball, it'll obviously be smaller.
Plus if it's too small, no one will see it~ :P So bigger is better! Jkjk... That's be being weird. I guess. :) The tutorial's only 5 minutes long and easy to follow.
Edit: For the top, I just used cardboard.
