View Full Version : The Rate the Crossplay thread!

09-01-2003, 09:59 PM
Yeah! I'm sorry if this has been done before, but I had the idea to start a thread where people can post pictures of their completed crossplays, and receive criticism on how to make the costume better, look more convincing as the opposite sex, etc, or to just applaud a good costume ^^

POSITIVE Criticism only!

This is mine to start it off ^^;

09-01-2003, 10:13 PM
^^; Can you also post reference pictures and maybe a better shot? :p

09-01-2003, 10:22 PM
From what I can see in the pic, the makeup and all looks good. Only thing really can recommend is changing the posture - you are kinda slouching and hips are forward. With that kind of outfit I would expect chest to be forward and butt to be back to make curves.

Here is one of mine to review

09-01-2003, 11:47 PM
Ooo *loves Slayers* Maybe a less femine pose as Zelgadis isn't the most bishie of the crew. Even if it feels less relaxed, shoulders higher.

09-02-2003, 07:33 AM
Unless you're doing a specific pose from a peice of character art or common action, f2m crossplayers should try to keep their feet about shoulder's width apart. Men also tend to be akward about touching their face, as it's a very disney heroine suort of thing to do and will often only do it with fingertips. Men also have a tendancy to look blankly ahead or down. looking up gives the eyes a more wide open, girlish, innocent look.

m2f crossplayers need to watch out for posture. women often keep their feet together hand have walking with a back stright ground into their skulls from an early age, even female characters who are supposed to be slackers/boyish will need to maintain better posture than the average male, just for belivability of character. And remember to smile! Smile! Smile in all your pictures, be it a grin or a coy smirk or a belittling sneer. Smile!!

I'm waiting for pics from Animefest to start popping up so I can get pics of my crossplay with wig... so no posted images yet.

I'll post a picture here after nekocon if the thread is still here :D I have good ones planned for that, all i've done yet is Rei and it didn't come out good, it looked nice when it was right, but I take bad pictures from being tired I suppose or wearing the wig backwards :D or it poking you in the eye a million times ... in the future I'll be prepared :D

Agrias: Don't worry, that looks really good ^_^
Kaede: I saw you at Otakon and you looked cool :D but I dunno you so I didn't say hi

Glad I already have a male stance, and male mannerisms just normally, lol ^_^ I don't have any pictures, but I have a long desciption on one of my characters I plan for A-kon 15. For whoever did post pictures, I think they are really great! I really liked your costume, Agrias.

09-02-2003, 07:52 PM
To Kaede, great crossplay ^_^ But for some reason, your eyes make you appear female.... maybe darken and make the eyebrows more pronounced? :o

To Hikaru-chan - I likey ^^ Love the skin coloring and detail on the face, plus makes for a convincing crossplay as well.

09-03-2003, 04:31 AM
Agrias - you look like a girl, who is slouching. ^^ Mom says: Stand up straight!!
Hikaruchan - Awesome Zelgadis! I wouldn't know your true gender looking at that pic!
Kaede - Excellent Kyo but there's something about it that still pegs as "girl", I think around the eyes? Hard to put my finger on it....

I've got too many pics, so I'll only post a few links... (As to which character, *sigh* I am so predictable ^^ )

09-03-2003, 07:07 AM

Ehm. Please note the character isn't supposed to look very male and has girly hips, but I think I got the androgyny look down. I look nothing like this normally. o_O I wanna do more pretty girl-boys.

Aiji Sasayaki
09-03-2003, 09:39 AM
Michi - That's a great Kuja, Michi. I think you pulled him off completely. I thought he was actually a girl until it said differently in the game ^_^'

And I still apologize for not having any pictures up..camera-shy..

Ok... here's my first attempt... next one will be LOTS better. Well, here's the pic...

Next time will have wig and contact lenses...

09-03-2003, 03:52 PM
Hi Mizuno-kun!

I can't seem to see the pic? Can you post it again, neh? Domo!

09-03-2003, 04:15 PM
Michi , your Kuja cosplay is awesome :bigtu: :bigtu:
Hikaruchan: very good zelgadiss (I love that character) :bigtu:

ps:scuse for my poor english :japan:

09-03-2003, 04:29 PM
Eh...this was my first attempt at binding, so be kind. ^^;

Reference picture - http://lyn.50megs.com/die-filth.jpg

Cosplay pics - http://www.fansview.com/2003/otakon/0809b386.jpg

Not very good pictures though, unfortunantly. ^^;;

And a comment about Kaede's costume. She's cosplaying Kyo and like most J-Rockers, he tends to wear quite a bit of make-up. Also the pose is normal for him. Most (but definently not all!) J-Rockers have at least some of a feminine look to them.

09-03-2003, 06:02 PM
I'm the skinny little Sora. Not the big, beefy Barret (Heh. If I was the Barret, my crossplay skills would be unparalleled!) The character's a 14 year old boy. so he skinniness goes to my advantage. The wig kind of blends into the background, but there are worse fates in life.

09-05-2003, 04:31 PM

ok, the pic quality is kinda bad, the pose... could be improved. ^^() and what happened with my binding?! =O it looked better when i left my hotel room!

but yeah... potential at least? i'm going to be wearing this costume again. ^__^

09-05-2003, 05:49 PM
I totally dig the makeup gollum job on the Zelgadis, which helps to hide your gender as well ^ ^

Karisu, I think you make an excellent male Dilandau in the armor. When the armor is off it's a bit easier to tell you're female because of your limbs, but in the armor I think it's quite handsome.

For Kaede, it seems to me what makes the pic look 'girl' is the way you're posing. Looks like you're cocking your hips out which is a feminine thing to do although both guys and girls do it.

Zara, don't I know you XD? Anyway I think you need to rearrange the sash/belt on your costume cause when it's around your waist that tight it automatically enhances the appearance of your hips. Binding job doesn't look bad though ^ ^

09-05-2003, 05:55 PM
The expression is VERY masculine!
But yeah..on something that tight the binding has to be killer flat.

Definitely potential!

Here are my two newest crossplays! <sorry for the bad quality pics..>
c&c muchos appreciated!

@ Chobrat - how cute! i love both those charas (especially van ^^) and you really look like a boy. a cute 'lil boy i want to pull the cheeks of. XD heheh, my expression might have been from the bugs on that tree, like "oh my god, hurry and take the picture, they're crawling up my arm!" ^^()

@ ACXchan - waaah! Schu! *glomps* i didn't see you at AX this year, i was so sad! T_T you know, i have you on video singing "goodbye my mars, i shot your pigs!" from last year. XD heheh, didn't think about the belt sash, i'll have to fiddle with that next time i wear the costume.

09-05-2003, 06:16 PM
Wow Chobrat I think you make a great Goku XD Your facial features appear androgynous so you could pass for a boyish young girl or a pretty young boy. It works for young characters although in cases where you cosplay someone like Van your youthful features may lead to suspicion of your gender, or people will just think you're a 14 year old boy cosplaying Van XD

Guess I should add my own pictures this time, eheh.
Schu can read your mind (http://images.cosplay.com/showphoto.php?photo=73570&password=&sort=1&cat=500&page=1)

Captain Bernadette (http://images.cosplay.com/showphoto.php?photo=73580&password=&sort=1&cat=500&page=1)

LOL Zara, you didn't burn that video clip?? I so don't need to see it @D@;; I didn't see you either, I was walking around as Gluhen Schu though >_<;

09-05-2003, 06:17 PM
Zara- It would probably help if the brows were a bit longer, but otherwise, fantastic crossplay.

Chobrat- If you hadn't been posting these on the crossplay thread, I'd have thought you were a boy. Only suggestion I can muster is that you seem to hold your wrists a bit daintily. I'm impressed. o_o

09-05-2003, 06:20 PM
The only thing I can see that gives you away is that the jeans are a bit tight.. maybe if you got a looser pair to hide your curves?
Great wig too!

other then that. GFYTRW13%$#513112412MYGOD

edit: I'm a 14yr old girl..so close enough xD

Goddess Zara
09-05-2003, 06:26 PM
@ Gren - another good idea. ^^ i'm trying to figure out how to do my makeup to make my face look more boyish too...

@ Schu - that's a great axl! ^^ but really, i dun think pictures do justice, you really carry yourself like a guy when you crossplay! ^^()

edit: heheh, i didn't burn it, i actually like to watch that clip occasionally. it's funny, you even did a little dance. XD

09-05-2003, 06:50 PM
Mizuno tenshin: You are very slender, and that works for a female character. Your chest looks real.. the only thing that DOESNT work for you is the hair and makeup..
Wigs can do ALOT for a crossplayer, bangs especially! they can really make an angular face-shape more effeminate.

09-06-2003, 12:54 AM
Hehe, everyone has greaaat crossplays ^^

Gren - Awesome Sora! I like the hair too xD Now I wonder if that Barret WAS a crossplayer or not... lol

Chobrat - I love yer cosplay! ^^ You look just like a young boy, hehe, and also great costume ingeneral

ACX - awesome and convincing ^^; But prolly more convincing becuase you look like a guy I know.. hehe.

Zara - You have much more than potential xD The only thing I would reccomend would be to darken/lengthen the eyebrows a bit.

09-06-2003, 02:41 PM
Waah am I the only one who can't see Gren's Sora pic @_@;;?

Thanks a bunch Chobrat XD I'd ditch the jeans if Axl's weren't ass tight @D@ I'll probably just try to lose weight LOL x_x Fwee I love Axl.

I always thought I was a mediocre male-impersonator @D@

Agrias, I'd comment on your pic but I'm not quite sure what char you're supposed to be ^ ^;

Well, this should help you, Agrias. I just realized you're a guy @D@

09-06-2003, 02:44 PM
I can't see it it either.. ^^;;..

Hmm..are the pants your wearing Tight ass GIRLS pants? or tight ass BOYS pant?
Because even if they are females tightass straightleg jeans.. guys are a bit different.
I find they make you look alot more 'straight' and take away dimension from the ass-area xD

09-06-2003, 02:47 PM
LOL they are in fact tight ass GIRLS pants. I threw the Axl costume together in like two and a half weeks so I grabbed a pair of jeans I already owned XD I'm refining the costume for possibly Yaoi Con and if not that soon then definitely AX. Thanks for the tip ^ ^

09-06-2003, 02:59 PM
Seriously, you guys make crossplay look so easy. I don't see a single one that looks horrible or glaringly obvious.

Woot, I'm going to see what people think of my first, only, and somewhat crappy crossplay.

Yep, it's the Incredible Dancing Hyper Xelloss!!!! Comes complete with Incredibly Annoying Background Music and Penguin Mints hidden in the Pouch of Doom!!! (In-character Xelloss cosplayer plus Pixy Stix and caffeine equals...well, you really don't want to know.)

09-06-2003, 03:14 PM
Hrm... Should be fixed now.
Accursed link.

One leg straight and one on toe is a clasic showgirl pose. It's a girlish stance. It's all about the body languange, baby. (Bum bada dum bada dum)

09-06-2003, 04:25 PM
Eek, so many people. I'm going to try and start from the begining:

Agrias~ I second Hikaruchan, the posture would make a world of difference. But, you still look like a girl, just a laid back, slouching tomboyish girl. I don't know the chara, maybe that's what you're going for? I really like it, just, posture posture!

Hikaruchan~ My only advice is your hips. You're kind of standing with one jutting out a bit, which is feminine^_^ Other than that, wow! I really had to look for that one thing to nitpick...

Kaede~ Mmmm... I love Kyo.... er, I mean, comments on your crossplay.. right... There's just something about your eyes that's so girly.. I dunno what, or how to fix it>.< Sorri

Karisu-sama~ The first picture really shows of your more delicate face I think. But other than that, you are so good *adores*

Michi~ I love your androgynousness (<-is that a word?) That character is so girly though, your barely have to do anything. You know... I think Kuja may have more hips than you! : P

Mizuno Tenshi~ Your body looks great (eh, don't take that the wrong way...) you have better legs than mi... I think if you thinned your eyebrows a little bit, you'd look pretti dang perfect.

Lyn~ You look really great^_^ The way you hold your head is a bit feminine, it draws to your veri girly neck, I'm sure that sounds odd... but for some reason, necks are just things I notice.

Gren~ Yep, I have to say you look like a young boy^_^ I like your wig.

Goddess Zara~ Your binding doesn't look bad to mi. And I second what ACXchan said about the belt^_^

Chobrat~ You pull off young boy really well! Give mi your secrets! I'm trying to be nitpicky, 'cause I know it helps, but... you look like a little boy...

ACXchan~ I'm impressed^_^ I think someone said something about your jeans? Yeah, I say whatever it was they said^_^ Was the only thing I noticed.

HanyaanFaery~ That's a girly pose... do you have any better pics? The actual outfit is nice and Zelly, but you've got the girly pose thing going on...

Now my turn!
I don't know if this one counts, as the chara is androgynous, but Nataku:
Mi practicing looking like a boy:

09-06-2003, 04:32 PM
Sadly, there is no better picture of me as Xelloss. That's actually a very jokey shot; some person overheard me talking about my hobbies and decided to pay a buck to see "Xelloss" doing Scottish Dancing. This is me either at the beginning or ending of the dance. (I can tell because of my foot position.)

There's a half-body shot that I found online; somebody touched it up really crappily though.

@ Hitori - wow, you really pulled off the androgyny well! =O for duo it's hard to say because of the lighting, but the pic itself is cool, i like the "mood" of it. ^__^ i could only see the nuriko harem pic for hotohori, but you look like a young boy - i really like the expression. hotohori the pimp! XD

@ HanyaanFaery - dancing xellos! that's so cool, i wish i could have seen that! XD the only thing i can say is that there's something... in the hair maybe? the way it curls under at the bottom? i dunno, but whatever it is is somewhat feminine. other than that, i like your expression, it seems very "xellos" ^__^

@ Gren - yay, i can see the pic now! ^__^ i like the pose, and that's a really good binding. *_* one thing you could maybe do is put some foundation on your lips to tone down the rosy color - the look pretty and girly. ^^()

09-06-2003, 07:04 PM
Bwahahahah! No binding! I just have no breats. My wash-board chest is perfect for crossplay. XD

Hitori- The Nataku costume looks like it has a cinched sort of waist, that then spreads out at the bottom, which creates a sort of hourglass figure. More of a thing to watch out for future costumes (As this one's already made... unless you're like me and regularly scrap peices of costumes to make them better) but try keeping the upper torso peices to a more tube shape.
Also, geocities doesn't allow direct linking of images, so either post them on a page and put up a link to the page, or upload them to cosplay.com

Hehe, everyone has greaaat crossplays ^^

Gren - Awesome Sora! I like the hair too xD Now I wonder if that Barret WAS a crossplayer or not... lol

I'm the Barret in the picture but no I am not cosplaying. ^_^

Mizuno Tenshi
09-06-2003, 07:15 PM
Hitori... your boytype pictures make you look more butch than I normally do! Well, I'm not all that butch, but...
Oh, and for any Geocities images, you can just click the link and then take off the ".jpg" or the ".gif" and it'll load up the images just fine. :D

09-06-2003, 07:18 PM
Its hard to NOT have the cinched waist as Nataku,or as ANY male X character..
The chests are so wide and the hips so tiny the jackets/whatever are almost always cinched in at the waist.

I'll give the advice I always give, being an Avid X crossplayer myself.
When you make a costume you are 'bringing it to life'.
You can also apply that to design, NEVER could anyone have a body like Fuma. So instead of trying to achieve the impossible, work with what you have.
Make it as if it were *real*, DON'T make it as if you were an anime character and wouldn't look ridiculous in a tiny pair of slacks and a uniform jacket. Because we are real, and that will Not work.

If you would like to know what I mean a bit better.. PM me or something.. x.x;;.. Its sort of ahrd to explain what I mean without making a page-long post.

09-06-2003, 09:33 PM
I sort of understand what you're saying Chobrat. I have really tiny shoulders and am basically a line, so it's hard for mi to get the "CLAMP" look. I did mi best to "bring it to life" though^_^ Mi favourite thing about mi Nataku, is the wrinkles at the waist, Nataku has waist wrinkles and so do I, yay^_^

09-06-2003, 10:52 PM
Hanyaan, I also think the pose is very feminine ^ ^; In your half body shot, I think what strikes me most as 'girl' is the fact that your lips are rich in color. Normally this is a beautiful thing but it's also a very girly thing XD Perhaps if you took on a more "XD!!" face it would be less noticeable.

Hitori, I love your Nataku costume. The ribbons of doom are a nice touch and I think your Nataku photos are the most... eh I don't want to say convincing because Nataku is *not* supposed to look that manly in the first place but I think you pulled off his androgynous look well ^ ^

Gren, now that I can see your picture XD First of all you have one awesome Sora wig! That must be industrial strength hairspray and gel LOL. I think you do have boyish features (no offense on the washboard chest or anything ^ ^;; ) but that particular halloween pic to me had a feminine expression. I think the headshots of the Sora wig in your gallery are more boyish XD

I have broad shoulders but I've always been afraid of cosplaying X for fear that *someone* will try to behead me @D@

09-07-2003, 09:00 AM
It's so hard to resis the udge to grin all girley-like for pictures! Especially when you dress as Mima the day before. garrg >_o Thanks for the tip. I'll try to keep my face in check.

09-07-2003, 01:24 PM
. Hm.. why not. Criticize away~ (criticism is good for me. o_O)

One thing about crossing your arms for f2m- Men cross their arms higher then girls do, because they don't have breasts. >.> Its weird to get used to. e.e; (I suppose men could use this for posing as women, and cross their arms a little lower.)

o_O more then enough photos. ::Got link-happy.::

09-07-2003, 03:05 PM
Gren, when it's in-character I think that's great but it just also reveals your gender sort of at the same time so I guess you'd have to choose between not grinning for a character who grins or being in-character but also showing you're a girl @D@

Khamryn, the first picture I think is really great. Nice job on the figure although the rosey cheeks and pink lips are a giveaway ^ ^;; Maybe if you didn't wear make up it would look more convincing, or if that's your natural complexion then break out the make up to hide the rosieness. I like your Touya picture, even more convincing, however as some mentioned to me earlier, curves on the rear should be avoided @D@ It might just be the way the picture is taken but it's a giveaway. Your Izumi I think is the most convincing, male posture and expression XD

09-07-2003, 03:08 PM
ACXchan- . I'm not wearing make up. ::Sweatdrop.:: Touya and Izumi I was XD XD Edit- not sure why I look that way in the pic, the rest are pasty incarnate -_-;;

09-07-2003, 07:32 PM
Khamryn- I don't know if the Yuki uses a wig or not (I... think it's a wig...) But if it is a wig, soo if you can get by with trimming the hair on the back of the neck any shorter. Men's hair tends to be cropped really short back there, while women's is usually left longer. It annoyed me to no end when hair stylists would leave the back of the nexk hair too long. So... not I just cut my own. Nyar har!

The thing that most gives away your Valgaav is the hips, but Idon't know of anything that can be done to fix that...

In the Touya shot, your arms are sort of limp and girlish. Other than that, I think it looks great. Brows could use a scootch more thickening.

Your Blind and Lucifer look great to me! For some reason I think you'd make a great Goblin King from Labrynth cosplayer. o_

09-07-2003, 07:45 PM
Khamryn~ Your body and posing are very convincing^_^ With your face shape, I think the most convicing shots are the straight, or almost straight on ones

09-07-2003, 08:48 PM
Gren: Your Blind and Lucifer look great to me! For some reason I think you'd make a great Goblin King from Labrynth cosplayer. o_

Duuuuuude that's what I was thinking! I thought Khamryn's face had a bit of David Bowie to it XDXDXD!

09-07-2003, 08:54 PM
ACXchan, that's true! Khamryn, you should so do that!! I'd worship you^_^

09-07-2003, 08:55 PM
Here's my first crossplay shot as Mr. K from Gravitation. The wig still has some issues, but I'm working on them.

I hate it when my real hair color shows...

09-07-2003, 09:08 PM
Sacryed~ I like the way you stand. Veri nice, but in none of these pics can I see your face veri well... so I can't comment there

09-07-2003, 10:13 PM
Why does everyone want me to do Jareth? o_O; ::dun get it.:: You guys are not the first to tell me that. x_x

Gren- its not a wig.. lol. hm.. next time I get that hair cut I'll mention it to my hair stylist. ^__^ thanks. As for Valgaav.. yeah.. there's nothing I can do about that. o_O Those pants are like.. MADE to accent them >.< its really annoying. ::Curses animators:: Touya.. thicker eyebrows? >.> ehh. maybe. :x

Hitori- okay :x

@ Chobrat - i know what you mean about those CLAMP characters and their unnatural bodies, i was lucky with Ferio, but my friend that dressed eagle... @_@

@ Khamryn - hey! i saw you at AX02 in both the Yuki and Valgaav costumes. ^__^ nice job on both of them. ^^ i think for the poses i liked the zetsuai one and valgaav the best - they both looked very masculine to me. for valgaav, i didn't notice the hips looking wider, but maybe because i know how his pants accent that, and took it into account. ^^() i liked all the other ones too - good crossplay! ^__^

@ Sacryed - it's K! ^^ i dun think the wig was that bad, i kinda like it. ^^() out of the group shot, i think you look the most masculine. i like your facial expressions too, even if they're mostly hidden by hair and sunglasses. ^^()

09-08-2003, 08:17 AM
Khamryn- it's all in your mouth/cheeks. They're like David bowie's. It's super cool. I've never seen anyone with cheeks like his before. ^o^

09-08-2003, 11:28 AM
I also think you would make a great Jareth, please consider it. On your cosplays, all were very convincing to me except Lucifer - I think it is the head tilt and wig curving around cheeks that just say girl. Great job on all of them.

09-08-2003, 12:54 PM
Zara- :x cool haha. ::Blinks:: ok :p

Gren- oh o_O

Hikaru- Lucifer eh? Okay. ^_^ Will keep that in mind.. ::nod.::

and fine fine, Jareth will be considered when I make the list of cosplays I wanna do shorter. .

09-08-2003, 03:28 PM
Here's the best picture I could find of my face.

My Noir crossplay the one at AX2k3. After I lose the weight it will look alot better also I didnt have any Make up on.

09-21-2003, 10:09 AM
~pokes at Kham~ ~grins~ I think you're one of the few people who had me confused on gender when I first talked to you...~laughs~ that's my input! XD

09-21-2003, 11:32 PM

09-29-2003, 11:28 PM
i have been tantalized about my girlish figure for so long... now i have decided to try crossplaying more

09-29-2003, 11:30 PM
go to the new rate the crossplay thread!

09-29-2003, 11:51 PM
Uhm.. why did there need to be a new one?

09-29-2003, 11:57 PM
and why not a new one here? In the *crossplay* section.
Ner, five pages isn't too long that you have to make another one aniwho....

09-30-2003, 12:02 AM

09-30-2003, 12:16 AM
Ha ha, well thanx. Here I thought I was onli being stupid and stating the obvious^_^

ONE thread on this subject in the appropriate forum is just fine: Asmodeus - your "newbie-ness" is showing....

Please don't make new threads just to show that you can.

EDIT: LOL, I just discovered Asmodeus is the same age as my kid... THAT explains it... :p

09-30-2003, 06:28 AM
eep! Not many to choose from *yet* But here's a few of me in the IY costumes...

Technically that's my first crossplay ^_^* I'm working on Marik (my second) at this point, but I will definately be dressing as Inuyasha for awhile. Any suggestions?

Ohhh.... I LIKE those photos!! ^____^ Yep, girl, IMO you pass! Ya looks like a cute boy (albeit with much 'tude!)!

That's a really great Inuyasha. You should put those pics up on cosplay.com too. I especially love that first one with Sesshoumaru (and that's a darned good Fluffy too, there, whoever that is...)

Very nice Tetsusaiga, too.

09-30-2003, 07:33 AM
Wow, Thank you!!

I'd put them up in my gallery, but some of them aren't mine ^_^* The one with both of us was taken from "icosplay.com".

And the Sessh is one of my best friends Sheena! (Cordless Runner from these boards) I'm sure she'd appreciate the compliment as well. Thank you!

09-30-2003, 08:41 AM
Such attitude! Wow, you've got the look and the stance so down. I'm trying to nit pick but I can't think of anithing. Also, I *realli* like your wig!

09-30-2003, 10:02 AM
Wow, Thank you!!

As long as say came from icosplay.com, feel free to put into your gallery.

Thank you Hitori!!! I worked about 12 hours on that wig, I'm glad it shows ~_~

And Hikaru chan, thank you so much! One of my favorite all-time pictures of myself in costume was taken by you! You take the best pics! ^_^ I plan on making it a point to seeking you out at cons now! >_>''

09-30-2003, 06:38 PM
I have made two crossplay costumes, Chichiri and Tasuki from FY. But I have only one pic of the two: Tasuki.

I wore it to Otakon, and BAAF ...both 2003. ^^;;; It's from Fushigi Yuugi, the Second OVA/OAV.

http://images.cosplay.com/showphoto.php?photo=65105&password=&sort=1&cat=500&page=1 My wig is on a bit incorrectly.

http://images.cosplay.com/showphoto.php?photo=81106&password=&sort=1&cat=500&page=1 I'm on the end.

^__^ Whattya think?

09-30-2003, 07:19 PM
*nod nod* The wig is the bestest I have ever ever seen. It so veri shows, it's totally accurate, I mean it, I'm realli impressed.

09-30-2003, 07:27 PM
Oooo....*blush* Thanks..^^;;

Pics below of me, since I tried looking at my first link in my other post and it was blurry. In these I am obviously the one in maroon. ^^ We're chasing down a Nyan-Nyan then getting our revenge.

OVA Tasuki chillin' with two TV Tasukis. ^^;;

And Hikaru chan, thank you so much! One of my favorite all-time pictures of myself in costume was taken by you! You take the best pics! ^_^ I plan on making it a point to seeking you out at cons now! >_>''

Feel free, but I think Otakon might be the only one have in common.

My cons for rest of year - Probably SugoiCon - Saturday/Sunday
Next year cons - MTAC definite, DragonCon fairly likely, and if job situation settles down Otakon, and either Animazement or Anime Central (depends on which gets guest want to see)

10-01-2003, 10:26 AM
w00t guys I like your crossplay-pics ! It seems so easy to do a good crossplay when you look at all the pics ! *staaaare*

Well ok now it's my turn, let me post two or three pics of my crossplays, though I don't think there'll be even one person who knows "Fireball" (Saber Rider And The Star Sheriffs). *sigh* It's too old, that it is...

Asmodeus, please specify to whom you are responding/asking a question of.

Edit- hey look, I can edit too. :p

There is NO need for a new rate the crossplay thread. And I'd like to know where you got that idea. (The immature one. :p)

10-01-2003, 01:47 PM
and don't double post when you can edit your posts.

Lady Miaka, I dig your kenshin...battousai...himura! the hair looks great and you have a neat serious look on your face. good crossplay *insert thumbs up emoticon here*

Well I guess I will go ahead and post mine costume aswell.
I crossplay as Sesshoumaru from Inuyasha...most people have seen me with a fairly large Inuyasha group at a few cons. I have heard that many really love my costume and that I am the "best Sesshoumaru". I personally dont think that because I can do so much more to my costume...anyway....heres my costume
Me and Tora
Just me

Thank you very much. ^__^..

You've really seen the photos all over the place? I've only seen them on Risingsun.net, Fansveiw, and Cosplay.com...
If you know of anymore spots, I'd love to find them out. ^___^

10-04-2003, 12:55 AM
Well...I've been at this crossplay thing for a while now (been doing it seriously for about 1 and a half years now) without much help, but I've never been completely satisfied with my results. I'd really like to be more convencing. Any suggestions, comments, questions, rude remarks?
Here's my attempt to crossplay as various characters...

Duo Maxwell - http://www.angelfire.com/gundam/darkgundams/duo_ma3.jpg

http://images.cosplay.com/showgallery.php?cat=4189&ppuser=5509(yes I know I look abit on the heavy side, the suit is way to big for me; I need to figure out some way to fix this)

Thanks in advance

Ooh. OK. I've been a member a while, but never actually got around to reading the forums much. Whee! Crossplay chat! OK, so here's what I wore at AWA last weekend.

Here's the reference pic. (http://lostboyvideo.com/journals/awacostumepoll/Tsubasa2.jpg)
And here's my rendition. (http://images.cosplay.com/showphoto.php?photo=83528)

What do you think? Did I effectlively resemble a girl? (Note that I wore the ponytail low on the neck, because I didn't want the fabric at the base of the wig's neck to show.)

Great Tsubasa costume! ^_^

Great Tsubasa costume :3

LOL, this is the whole "Crossplay or not?" thing that always makes me twitch! Cuz uh... yah... It's Tsubasa. But you're still a man dressed like a woman. Except you're a man, dressed like a man, who dresses like a woman... A bizarre twist on Victor Victoria?

Uh. Yeah. Great job! :3

T_T Damn you anime... *goes off to find some asprin* . Or is that 'Pirin' tablets?

10-06-2003, 03:13 PM
This was my first and only cosplay (crossplay) experience! I'm going to be doing this costume again possibly for Comic con and for a halloween party! OTHER than the correct vest, what else do I need for Will Turner from Pirates of the Carribean.

You can see more pictures in the member galleries. Look in Taru_chans gallery. ^_~

THANKS! ^_^ That was the funniest thing ever (being Will). I have NEVER cosplayed before and I was really nervous. I was also barrowing everything so I hadnt even seen the full costume till I got there. I also had no idea how to do my makeup. That was like totally last minute. I'm glad you liked it! Any suggestions?

Yeah, how about I dress up like Elizabeth and you go out with me! :toothy: Heehee.. or actually I'd be the one going out with you, since you'd be the man. Heehee... just kidding. Seriously, I don't know what to recommend. It looks good to me. I guess my only recommendation is to practice swordplay. ^_^

10-07-2003, 12:23 AM
Hahahaha! You SHOULD dress up like Lizzy! Ah, that would be a hoot. OH! dOOd! I should practice sword play so that I can KICK BUTT at Comic con! whoooohooo! thanks!

10-14-2003, 12:42 AM
*sighs* Won't anyone rate my crossplay?

10-14-2003, 02:38 AM

Not many m2f Xplayers here. Just a few..I haven't done much Xplay (or Cosplay for that matter) in a while. I'll give this a shot. This shots are some what old. About two years ago I did Puchiko with two friends (who were guys as well) that also did Digiko and Rabi en rose. All of Digi charat.

I Had a good time. First time doing it. Sorry in advance for the quality. I had an older Kodak Advantex camera. Wish I had my Digital at that time ;_;. Any way. To top that off, I've deleted any photos I had since I share my computer with my family. I haven't told any of them about this. ^_^; I intend to keep it that way for now. I'm afraid of what their reactions may be.

Yeah any way ^_^; Rate me? Oh and could any one reccommend any easy m2f crossplays? My cosplay skills are next to none.

Dar-Dar - I'm diggin' your Link Xplay. Great work on it all :bigtu:

10-14-2003, 04:23 AM
Dar-Dar: If you are really a girl, you're doing damned good crossplay. o.O I REALLY like your pics!! :)

Sorry I'm too busy to check more on anyone's right now. REALLY busy!!

10-14-2003, 08:26 AM
Dar Dar, I love your Dark Link costume. Your other ones are really nice too, but Dark Link's my favorite. :) You're perfectly bishonen, too. You've got a nice androgynous look in your crossplay.

Digital Shin, from what I can see, your crossplay is good. Cute legs, I think. But the photos aren't very good. i wish you had clearer ones that showed better detail.

Anyone got any more opinions on my Tsubasa crossplay? :)

10-15-2003, 02:10 AM
Lost Boy Thanks ^_^ Wish I did have better pictures. As for yours, for a moment you had me fooled. Good job with the Xplay :bigtu:

this is the costume I just finished for my boyfriend.... (I haven't bought a proper petticoat yet). All that I really notice is the slight stubble?

(yay 200 posts ^__^)

10-20-2003, 04:12 PM

Aw, cool! I wish I had a girlfriend who made me cute costumes like that. ^_^ Is that you with him in the last pic? (Is he missing a sock there?) You do really good work! :D

10-20-2003, 05:14 PM
yeah that's me, in my huge-pyoko-ness.... and that was before we found his other loose sock, halfway across town ^__^;;

thanks for the compliment :)

*apologizes for not saying anything sooner, but has been in and out alot lately*

Thanks everyone for the comments! I cut my hair at the beginning of summer so all those pics are out of character. Black seems to be my crossplay color...hides my hips nicely...*shrugs*

Schu: That is one of the most adorible Digi Charret costumes I've ever seen, and he looks great in it! I had to double take to see that it was actually a he in the outfit...

10-29-2003, 05:06 PM
Here's a couple of pictures of me doing regular and wallmarket Aeris. Tell me what ya think ^_^

10-29-2003, 05:56 PM
Ihrie: nice job! #3 is especially convincing, because the pose hides the upper-arm muscle a lot. The "regular Aeris" jacket helps that too (I personally like to wear shirts that cover the arms when I crossplay because of the opposite problem - I can never get ENOUGH muscle on my arms for a guy, despite all the martial arts I do. :/ )

10-29-2003, 06:14 PM
My Jack Sparrow costume is almost done, but here's some in-progress pics. It's my first time crossplaying someone that doesn't really have a girlish look (my first crossplay was Legolas ^_^) soo lemme know watcha think! XD

10-29-2003, 07:07 PM
Sana-chan: I find the last one to be so totally convincing. ^____^

The other 3 have some girly body-language (I don't know if the actor does that, though, as I haven't seen the movie) - in the full-body pose, don't be afraid to take up more space! (wider stance, etc.) Guys normally take up more space than girls, as if they "own" it. They also tend to look "less flexible" than girls, so when they stick their hips out, it isn't very far.

10-29-2003, 09:32 PM
Ihrie ~ 0.o Whoa. I wish I looked that good as a girl... yeah... You have mad crossplai skillz.

Sana ~ XD If it weren't Jack I'd say yer posing makes you look fem. But that doesn't appli now does it.. great job^_^ I haven't seen PoC since it came out so I dun remember the bestest, but you definatli give off "Jack" vibes. And as for the guy part, quite convincing all in all^_^

10-30-2003, 10:41 PM
Ihrie - I have to agree with Hitori; I actually started drooling ^_^;;

Sana - I love your Jack! I think you might need to loosen up abit when you do the *does the wavying thing jack does* thing...you seem kinda stiff in the pictures to me. Awesome job crossplaying in general!

10-31-2003, 08:30 AM
Ihrie... you're friggin' hot!!!I'm jealous... I hope I look anywhere near as good. I just gotta get better at makeup.
Now... are you straight? I'm straight too, but I'll make an exception for you... ;)

10-31-2003, 06:30 PM
Your posing is good, Ihrie. And her coat looks really awesome. prolly the best i've seen. in the last pic, though, like i think karisu said, your arms are a bit too big, but there isn't too much you can do about that. but, i'd be convinced if i passed you in the street.

11-01-2003, 01:40 AM
ohhhh, thank you guys so much!! XDDD lol

11-02-2003, 12:44 AM
Hello everybody

Yesterday I learned what "cosplay" and "crossplay" were, and I felt at home immediately.

Why? because I've always been fascinated with costumes AND crossdressing. Also I've been taking sewing lessons for about a year. (working on my first corset now).

I'm not familiar with the anime world, so I don't know the characters but from now on I'll be looking for a "challenge" to my sewing and cross-playing skills. Suggestions are encouraged.

What i can contribute is my personal experience in dressing up, including my cleavage-building-teping-technique.

To give you all an idea of my look, please see the attachments.

I did sew the set I'm wearing in the 2003 pic, and the silky top.

Your comments, criticism and questions will be most welcome. I think crossplay is the ideal combination to showcase my hobbies.

Bye for now...

Ah: i'm in Toronto, Canada

11-03-2003, 11:55 AM
Ihrie ~ Okai, I actualli have something useful to sai now. I would suggest you not look directli at the camera, look down or up or a bit to the side. And when not wearing the jacket, don't put your hands on your hips. It makes your shoulders just sort of... hrm, obvious. Yep.

11-03-2003, 12:04 PM
I kid you not, I decided that for me, I don't know about everyone else, that crossplaying is so much harder for me then cosplaying. Oh man..........esp the ones where you have to show some skin.......yuck. The shaving, makeup, eye stuff, tight clothes........... It's sooooooooo hard.......Also when I do my one Sexe no Jutsu from Naruto, my Boobs are F cups because I decided I wanted to be large. Those things are HEAVY, they are actual melons........Karisu, you have a lot of knowledge in this, it's so simple yet so true......... Ihrie, your Aeris is just amazing, I think you look gorgeous........I seriously give you UBER props for it. I wasn't given a very womanly face and I am really muscular so it is hard, but I like a challenge.

11-03-2003, 02:52 PM
Dani: You look great! Didn't look like you were crossdressing, Mam - uh Sir - uh.... your cleavage-building technique is very impressive (are you sure that's not real? XD )

I think the only picture I don't like so well is the last one, because I don't find the style of that black dress very flattering on you as it shortens and widens the neck (it probably wouldn't flatter me either, so that's not a crossplay issue. :p ) The red outfit and the silky top, OTOH, are very attractive.

11-03-2003, 03:58 PM
To Hitori: thanks for the comments. The problem with self-portraits using a timer is that by the time one goes from pressing the button to being in front of the camera one has only a couple of seconds to improvise a pose. When I go out I try to ask people to take pics of me and they usually turn out better. I will definitely remember your suggestions next time.

To Karisu-sama: thanks for the compliments. I'm attaching a mini tutorial of my technique so you can see it's all an illusion. I see you are admin/moderator here. Feel free to move/copy/share that file if you think it would me more useful somewhere else in the site, as long as you make a reference to my name/alias/account here.

The last picture doesn't do the outfit much justice. I have a black sheer bodysuit (which includes that thick collar), and a fake-leather mini jumper. Now that you mention it the neck looks incredibly wide. Wearing that getup around town was a pleasure, nonetheless :)

Over time I've collected lots and lots of clothing (properly documented on hundreds of pictures) but my costume section is very poor.

How does one get about deciding on a character? Must it be from anime culture? I'd love to start working on something but I have no idea how to decide what to do.

11-03-2003, 05:17 PM
Please comment on mine!!
I know there are some flaws but oh well XD.

11-04-2003, 09:11 AM
Dani ~ You boobage making skillz are amazing XD

CCAmanda ~ It looks like you didn't strap, if you did, maybe you should tri a different technique, and if you didn't, it would make a huge difference^_^ Besides that... erm, the pics are hard to comment on ^.^;;

12-22-2003, 09:43 PM
Ok i really wish there were more pix of guys crossplaying on here (dont worry i'm straight) only because - with the encourgment of my friends and my own enjoyment of confusing people i have "crossplayed" / crossdressed persay though i've nvr actually done it with permission or with my real name and always only if my friends were there for me to hide behind. They tell me, and i tend to agree, that i pass as a "sexy" chick but none the less i have my reservations about actually going to a con as a girl character (I have gone only a few times but I was like completely nervous the whole time) and i really wish i could find more pix of guys who not only do well at passing as girls but actually pull it off to the point of completly convincing everyone. None the less there are some GREAT crossplays on here, i seriously applaud Ihrie and his Aeris costume, I gotta say "WOW" you actually pulled that off really well, if I didnt KNOW you were crossplaying and if it was only a quick glance like walkin through a hallway I'd mistake you for a real girl doing normal cosplay! Probably the only thing that really would give it away are your cheek bones though even thats a big if since there are many girls who have masculine faces.

12-22-2003, 10:16 PM
i really wish i could find more pix of guys who not only do well at passing as girls but actually pull it off to the point of completly convincing everyone.

I think that for going to a con the main point is NOT about trying to convince everyone. Of course, if you can do it go for it, but even if you have an "i'm crossplaying" sign in your forehead there is nothing wrong with that. I'm only talking about cons, not about sports bars...

Good luck...

12-23-2003, 08:44 AM
I agree with Dani. Cosplay should be because you are having fun. Dress up and play make-believe at the cons because you love the character, because you enjoy celebrating the culture, or because you want to have a good time.

Cons are for celebrating a culture that not everyone appreciates all the time. (As a native of Utah, trust me - not everyone appreciates what you enjoy all the time. ^_- )

Sure, being able to pass is nice, very nice. I personally try to costume for both fun and technical merit, and I am trying to hone my skills to look more like the characters I costume for. For me, that includes make up, sewing, padding as necessary, etcetera. But the bottom line is that when you go to a con, you get to enjoy what you are doing (cosplaying) around a bunch of people who enjoy the same thing, or at least appreciate that youre doing what you do because you love the culture, just like they do.

So go! Make a costume, try it out, and if you pass, great! If you don't, you can still have fun, then practice practice practice till you get closer to that elusive status of "Whoa, she's cute!" ^_-

-Kuri "Still practicing."
