I am beginning a Dante Alighieri costume, from the recent EA game, Dante's Inferno. I'm doing his costume from the beginning of the game, where he is in his Crusades Uniform.

A reference of dante can be seen at:

A crusades uniform similar to the one Dante wears can be seen at:

I'm starting with his steel crown of leaves, and ending with his scythe or chainmail helm armor. The hardest part, I think, will be the chainmail which I will be making myself.
The armor will be a mix of foam and cardboard, whilst the chainmail will be made of actual metal rings.

Any ideas/suggestions/comments?

Chainmails not hard, just tedious. I used aluminum for mine, since its lighter...

http://fevereon.com/axis/projects/zascosplay.php#tunic thats got info on how i put my chainmail together.. basic 4 in one design

theres a site called www.theringlord.net , which carries rings and stuff. I talked to a lot of folks who buy form them, and seen their rings firsthand, and nothing but good thigns to say about them :)

That scythes gonna be the hellspawn though.

well, time is one thing i have in great supply. I have plenty of wire and such to make the rings, but thanks for the link.

i'm thinking i'd have to have a cloth sewn underneath the chainmail coif, for both shape and so it isn't see-through.

I have no idea how to do the scythe. I was thinking of maybe doing the halberd he uses in the beginning, but the scythe would look the best.

I'm also trying to do Dante. but while he's in the inferno. Well, if I tone up fast enough. As for his scythe, I was planning on doing it when he's punishing people. The spine part kind of goes inside of him, and the blade it attatched to his arm. I've also decided that if I can't get the time in to make the chain mail i was going to be lame and use mesh, but I do want to give chain mail with wires a try first.

Got the pattern all planned out for the robes, and some leather pieces for the belts and such. The crown needs to be covered in plaster wrap, and painted.

So... I just got to wondering. How exactly would one go about getting the cross on without the way he does it?

Well, i'm doing the costume he wears before he sews the cross into his flesh. If I was doing his normal costume however, i'd attach a cloth cross with liquid latex. I could also add stitching along the edges with some thread, thin twine, etc with more liquid latex.

I'm doing this costume as well. The inside hell version.

I've finished my scythe, coif, helm, bracer, and most of the cross he carries around.

I'm currently working on the epaulets and leg armor. His chainmail he wears on his legs/feet is confusing but I think I'm just going to make knee length chain leggings and buckle them with the leather armor over it. His feet look like they have chain on the tops with just leather wraps.

I've only got 3 weeks to finish :x

Posted my costume on this site a few weeks back. You can see it on my page. I based my costume off of the concept art http://image.com.com/gamespot/images/2009/054/955368_20090224_790screen004.jpg

what pattern are you going to use for the chain mail? I am going to be Dante for Megacon. And I would appreciate some advice on it.
