I have been trying to find a suitable fabric for Romana's Shada dress (from Doctor Who) and can't find anything even remotely similar. I don't want to have to paint on the stripes or flowers if necessary, the skirt is ruffled and will require a lot of fabric..

heres a reference picture:

Sorry for the quality but this is as good as it gets for reference shots. :/

With the whole shabby chic movement I thought something like this would be easy to find but I've gone through countless pages on all the major fabric sites and have had no luck.

It doesn't have to be perfect...just...close.

Hmmmm...hard to tell but it doesn't look floral to me. More geometric. That kind of small print (with or without stripes) is very popular with quilters though. I'd try looking at fabric stores and sites that cater to quilters. For the websites - rather than looking through a bajillion pages of swatches, you might try emailing them your picture and asking if they can recommend something close. Also - quilting cottons can be thin so you would probably need to line it with at least one additional layer and possibly more. Good luck!

If you're going to try to match up completely to a pre-existing fabric for a real costume (and know somebody handy in Illustrator or PhotoShop), I totally recommend Spoonflower for custom fabric printing = http://www.spoonflower.com

(And if you don't have a digital illustrator expert to recreate the design for you, I've noticed a lot of requests of this sort up in Etsy Alchemy labs = http://www.etsy.com/alchemy/)

Yui, That is so awesome! And it's not even that outrageously priced! Thanks so much :D
