I really would like to make Edward's coat as a surprise for my boyfriend. He is kinda short like Edward. :-p Plus he could really use a new coat.

I am mainly looking for pattern suggestions, although other tips are welcome. I want this coat to look as close to the real thing as possible. I am experienced seamstress. I will put in the effort. I do not want this to be cheap looking or ill-fitting.

Also, I would like it to be pretty high quality. Something he can wear on a day to day basis. I am thinking of going with a wool for the main fabric and lining it with that normal slippery lining material.

I know it is just starting to be summer, but I want to get a head start on this for next fall. With everything else going on it might take me that long to get it done!

Thanks! =)

Just in case anyone else is wondering... I just found this: http://www.kwiksew.com/catalog/cat_detail.cfm?pid=3123&Cat=Men&Level=Jacket

I am thinking that is my top option for a pattern right now. It wouldn't be too difficult to convert the collar into a hood and make the coat longer.

To be frank, I think a lab coat is perfect, but all you have to do is add the hood, which is not hard. The lab coat would not have many seams, and would not be too big (like a robe for example). They don't normally include buttons, depending on the pattern, and the only extra things they have are pockets on the outsides. I'm going to make mine someday...

This is the pattern i used for mine: http://butterick.mccall.com/b4331-products-4965.php?page_id=678. I think it worked pretty well with some minor adjustments. I omitted the cuff on the sleeves and lined it. I used a heavyweight twill for the coat and regular lining fabric.

i have heard the lab coat before... i might try it, but then i should get a pattern for a lab coat. It will be my first sewing project ever, so i will see how it turns out. I actuaaly hoped to find a step by step tutorial somewhere XD
