OKOKOK So I'm doing a costume of Crona/Chrona/Krona/how ever you spell it. I'm making a plushie of Ragnarok but also the sword. I was originally gonna use wood but that would get pretty heavy. I don't know what to use or how to make it... if anyone has any ideas please tell me!
(It's a page from the manga, so only look at the sword) Referance: http://m.mangafox.com/scans/300/252/02-004.0/manga_rain_souleater_ch04_103.jpg
Thanks in advance! :3

Eh... well if you go with a certain type of wood, it shouldn't be so heavy. I forgot what the woods called, I'm sure someone in here will come and tell you. Anyways if that doesn't work out, you have many other materials to look for, Such as foam bored. The sword your making reminds me of one I made, I used foam board, poster board, and dowels.

You can use foam board. It can be picked up at any Home Depot or Home Hardware Store and comes in a variety of lengths and thickness. I would use pink insulating foam board as it is more durable, and you can likely cut the entire shape out to avoid adding a lot of weight to it. Then its a matter of covering it with some duct tape (this keeps it from melting when you spray paint it if you get a cheap kind of board) and prime and paint it!

Based mine off the anime, but I don't think there's to much of a difference.

I combined two plastic swords I got from Value Village around Halloween time, since I liked the blade on one and the handle of another...so if you have any costume/party stores in your area, I suggest that...

Then I picked up some medical tape from Rite Aid, and some clay (for the spikes and mouth/tongue), a box for the part about the handle, ribbbon, and paint from Michaels.

Here's how it turned out: http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n257/Dietrich_san/4179805171_ed2517f8c4.jpg

Btw, needed lots of hot gluing and re-hot gluing...

Heeeey, I we have the same avatar!

I made my Ragnarok out of wood, cardboard, and paper mache. Mostly cardboard.

I started with a long, thin piece of wood (I think a dowel would work), then cut the blade out of cardboard and duct-taped it onto the wood. The hilt's made out of cardboard too. Then I covered the whole thing in paper mache (the hilt actually has some plaster on it, but I wouldn't advise that... it made it bumpy and hard to paint). It's pretty light, I carried it around all day no problem.

Here's some pictures, if they help at all. (I still have to do some finishing touches on the hilt.)

I hope I helped a little!

thanks for the ideas, so far! My dad can work with some wood so he can probably help.
I'll see what I can find...
just another little question... how long did the sword take to make, for those who said they made one? there's about 2 and a half months before the con and I'm not sure how long it would take to make a sword... I've never made on before ^_^'

Well my pop cut out some wood (dunno what type but it's not too heavy) and Now I have to paint it and get the other materials to make it perfect!
But I am going to use boxes and clay too!
