Hello all. I'm newish to cosplay, having just finished my first costume ever at A-Kon 21.

That being Dr. Gordon Freeman.

I went with this costume because I was well aware of how much work I'd need to put into a full HEV suit, and the convention I was going to was 2 months away.

Now that it's past, I'm looking into seriously doing the full thing. I have some links from friends, one of whom is a Stormtrooper in the 501'st. But I thought I'd stop in here and see if I could get some helpful hints ?

Congratz on your first costume ;] I think most people who have done the HEV suit are doing it from scratch, but i have seen a pep file from 405th that includes most of the suit, sadly their forum is still down :( your best bet is either to find someone who has the pep file and is willing to share it or doing it from scratch (not that terribly hard). Best of luck and if i ever stumble across that pep file il make sure to send it your way ;P

Mr. Freeman! I had the loud shirt and the suitcase. My friend was the Scout. I got a few pictures of you.

Yea, I'd noticed the pep file being mentioned, but I have yet to find it for myself.

My rough design so far is to use that to produce an alpha costume, make sure it's sized to my body right, then use it to make molds for a foam resin. I've been flatly told that I HAVE to use Underarmor under any armor costume I make in Texas, or I will die. So I'll have that under each part as the base.

I've found some bike gauntlets that will work for the gloves, and am starting to look for the boots.

...is it bad that I have an electronic sound system already completely sketched out, including powered portable speakers I can put into the torso? ....yea, I can tell where my strengths are. :)

Well, the 405'th is still under a DDOS attack. Which makes checking on the help files they have there kinda hard.

Does anyone know of any other locations that I might find the data files for the HEV suit? I'm trying to get this started, because it's too easy to just put it off.

I was considering going as a Generic Black Mesa scientist a few years back, but I think that was the year I ended up being the Scout. But you did good, and I'm pretty sure that's what I had in mind.

I saw a stray file of the HEV suit on some type of prop forum, problem is that i think its the first half life HEV suit, the one with little detail on it :/

So does anyone know where I can get the pep files? I've still had no luck, all of the links I've found were dead.

...I don't want to be a bug about this, but I can't progress without getting everything ready.

Well, that and I need money. But that's a given. :p

It's cool, thanks.

Once the 405th was up and running, I managed to touch base with the gentleman who converted the game files into pep.

Hm.

Now, on another subject that I was just about to ask about....

The glasses I'm wearing in that avatar there. They're not QUITE right for Freeman. These ones here (http://www.focusers.com/bebops.html) aren't quite right either. They might be closer than the ones I have on tho..

Does anyone know where I can get REAL frames in the right shape? They don't make them for the military anymore, so I can't just get a leftover pair easily.

I've decided to cosplay as Alyx Vance. I'm really excited, since I have the jeans, boots, hoodie, gloves, and a suitable wig. Just need the jacket, headband, paint the black mesa logo on the hoodie, and gather any props. =D

Second Valve costume, yeah!

Other than the necklace, Alyx's costume is very easy. ....much easier than Freeman's HEV suit.

SO unfair! The guy's costume is suppose to be easier! It's an unwritten rule! :p

Well Gordon's lab coat outfit is fairly simple.

Got a couple pics up of my Alyx progress.
