View Full Version : Any Perfect Dark Cosplayers?

Well howdy folks! This is my first thread!

Anyway, I'm nuts about the Perfect Dark series, and one of these days I'd love to do a Perfect Dark cosplay. But before I do that, I was wondering if anyone here has done it (I'm trying to gather some information so that if I ever can do a P.D. cosplay, I can make sure it's done good). And if so, who did they cosplay and from which game? What did you use and etc.? Why did you want to cosplay them?

Pics and details will help a bit.

Nobody? Come on, I can't be the only one that loves Miss Dark!

*Raises hand* I love Perfect Dark, it is still one of my favorite games.
Though I haven't done a costume from the series in a long time, back in 2008 I did Joanna's trench coat outfit (from the Chicago:Stealth mission). It was fun, though I suppose I looked rather ordinary. I would like to do more in the future, but I need a short brown wig.

Anyway, which character of the series do you wish to cosplay from? I'd love to see more cosplays done from PD. Even though I may be terrible at giving advice I hope I can help. Good luck.

"You have to be quick before they kill the negotiator!" I loved the game and spent many hours playing it but cosplaying it.. I dunno. I guess I just have too many other plans already xD

But damn, those missions with "perfect" AI playing those tiny aliens running around with tranquilizers.. Wtf. But apart from that annoying side, the main character is pretty cool and interesting. Plus I like how the lap-top gun looks.

GREAT game! I always wanted to do classic Joanna Dark, but I have too many projects on my plate at the moment! XD

Good luck with that!

I was thinking of doing a Zero era Joanna, mainly because it seems a bit easier to pull off and the red hair might make it a bit more recognizable. Also, I'm absolutely NUTS about the books and comic series that portrays her as she appears in Zero. (if you haven't read them, I can't recommend enough that you go get a copy of each now)

Sounds like a good idea. You'll be recognized quite easily with Joanna's red w/ blonde hair. Which hair like that isn't exactly a good thing for secret agent to have, but it's works well for cosplay. Good luck! Post pictures if you make some progress.

Oh, and I have not read the books yet. Since I haven't seen them at any of my bookstores. Maybe I will look in to them in the future.

Ugh, now I feel like doing her leather outfit, but I guess I'll have to push that back another few years. Too much stuff right now.

Try eBay, that's how I was able to get them fairly easy & on the cheap.

And some progress has been made! Sort of. I got an Airsoft pistol that kind of looks like a MagSec. It just needs to be painted and the accessory rail needs to be turned over & shortened a bit.

Now I just need to figure out a billion other things like giving a wig blonde highlights, the high heel-ish boots, half jacket, etc.

That gun will work well I believe. As for the wig, if you have it already you can try this for the blonde highlights.

Never tried them, but they look like they will work for her style.

If you dont have a wig you can try this. Just choose the best colors. Everytime I see this wig it reminds me of Zero Joanna,

Ok, I found one that's pretty close to what I have in mind here:
http://www.acparadise.com/acp/series.php?n=857
http://www.acparadise.com/acp/picview.php?p=s389_229049&s=857

but I'm not so happy w/ the blue used. Would anyone know how to make/where to buy the jacket & the main body of the outfit (sorry, not sure what it's called. Catsuit maybe?). Also, would anyone here know hoe to get pistols to clip onto the leg holsters?

Hey :D I've always wanted to do a cosplay from Perfect Dark! I'm no expert on making cosplays yet (still a beginner!) but I can try to help, since I'm doing one too.

Would you rather make the suit yourself? I know there's a couple places around where I live that offer services to make stuff for you, and I was thinking of doing that since I don't have access to a sewing machine yet.

For the holsters, I would think that making mini-belts out of fabric could work, since they seem to have a buckle, if I'm not mistaken. Then you could attach the Magsecs with loops of fabric, since there's no actual casing.

Just got a top that I think will work great. I just need to add silver piping and get a strapless bra to wear under it:

Things have picked up a bit, but I'm pretty sure everything is going to slow down from here on out.
I found a pair of pants that were buried in my dresser that should work well:
http://i335.photobucket.com/albums/m478/soren7550/Cosplay%20Album/100_1479.jpg
and it seems to go really well with the top:
http://i335.photobucket.com/albums/m478/soren7550/Cosplay%20Album/100_1467.jpg
(best pic I have at the moment)

And today I found a pair of shoes & jacket that should work great.
http://i335.photobucket.com/albums/m478/soren7550/Cosplay%20Album/100_1472.jpg
http://i335.photobucket.com/albums/m478/soren7550/Cosplay%20Album/100_1476.jpg

The jacket will require a ridiculous amount of work to look like Jo's, but it should be worth it.

Now, I need to make the CI patches, get a red wig, contact lenses, silver piping and money to get all that and a ticket to New York Comic Con to show it all off.

Wow, now I'm kinda excited about doing this! The jacket... you're definitely right. It'll need a lot of work, but once it's done being cut up and modified, it'll make a perfect jacket for her (no pun intended)

I was thinking of doing her other outfit (the one with the cargoes and such) instead, and have an old pair of cargoes that could do really well! All I'd need to do is colour in the camo parts. For prop guns, I was thinking of visiting some toy stores, or even just the dollar store, and spray-painting them? Do you think that would work?

soren7550

It could, but I think airsoft pistols could work better. In some cases, they might actually be cheaper. (my brother occasionally gets these five airsoft pistols for something like $5 USD, which is how I got my MagSec look-alike pistol.) I'll ask my brother next time I see him for the site he gets his pistols from.

New York Comic Con looks like it won't happen sadly, but on the plus side it gives me a lot more time to work on the costume (not to mention it gives me more time to get the funds to make it) but there's a very small chance I'll wear it during the Village Halloween Parade.

I have a few pics of how the costume is looking so far, but my computer currently isn't working at all, so I can't upload the pics.

Ok, I asked my bro and he said he got the pistols from here:
http://www.kapowwe.com/Spring-Airsoft-Pistols.html

Currently, the five pistols for $25 USD (was mistaken to think it was $5) and the random pistol for $5 isn't available at the moment, but the link is still worth a look. But, since they're pretty realistic looking, you'll have to keep the orange tips intact & orange. But what's cool about them is that you can actually pull the slides back and to can eject/insert the clips.

While digging around my room, I found a bit of fabric that would work great for the black part of the jacket. My problem is though (besides having to iron out & sew on the bit of fabric and not having enough to sew onto the underside of the arms) is which side I should have facing up.
This is the "up" side:
http://s335.photobucket.com/albums/m478/soren7550/Cosplay%20Album/?action=view&current=100_1560.jpg
http://s335.photobucket.com/albums/m478/soren7550/Cosplay%20Album/?action=view&current=100_1563.jpg

And this is the "down" side:
http://s335.photobucket.com/albums/m478/soren7550/Cosplay%20Album/?action=view&current=100_1561.jpg
http://s335.photobucket.com/albums/m478/soren7550/Cosplay%20Album/?action=view&current=100_1562.jpg

What do you guys think?

soren7550

The jacket is better than I expected. I just folded up the bottom twice and look at how much it looks like the actual thing!:
http://s335.photobucket.com/albums/m478/soren7550/Cosplay%20Album/?action=view&current=100_1564.jpg

The folded part is being held up with safety pins in this pic. I'm not sure how I'll get it to stay up later on, because I don't think simple sewing will hold it up for long (not to mention how frustratingly difficult & time consuming it'll be).

This wig looks really close (both in style & color) to Miss Dark's hair don't you think?:
http://shop.cosplay.com/wigs/cosworx/scruffy-l/scruffy-l-dark-red.html

Also, I think this should work for her blond streaks:

Several pics have been added to my costumes' page (as well as my Photobucket account). Go ahead, take a looksie:
http://www.cosplay.com/costume/322846/

I even made a YouTube video of how much I have done so far:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=teBTVWxWnK4

So all that really leaves is gloves, a wig, wig highlights, patches and silver piping. (and contact lenses do that I can see where the hell I'm going. I don't really plan on wearing my glasses because my glasses take away from the costume.)

soren7550
09-05-2010, 02:15 PM
I've finally got the bottom of the jacket to stay up w/o the aide of safety pins (I used Mighty Mendit, and the Billy Mays guarantee is actually true), and I got something close to the piping I was looking for (I was surprised & disappointed that Michale's didn't have exactly what I was looking for). I also got several feet of black fabric (for $1 USD!) that will be used for the mid section of the jacket & the under parts of the sleeves. (will use the MM to attach it to the jacket since it'll be faster that way)

But I'm having a bunch of problems regarding the custom patches & attaching the black fabric. The person who was supposed to help me this weekend with the fabric suddenly claimed to have no idea as to what I was talking about when I asked for the help and magically became suddenly sick. The place that I'm trying to get to make the custom patches keeps screwing up how it's supposed to look, so I'm looking for another person/place that makes patches. I was going to send them a new image (an enlarged one based on an image from the game) but the person seems to have either forgotten that I'm still waiting for the image or they're doing something else entirely.

The CI patches came in today, and they're not as bad as I thought they would turn out. Not as I really wanted them to turn out, but they'll do none the less.

Started to put on the black fabric today. It was difficult trying to figure out how much of the fabric I should cut by myself, but I think I did alright considering. I've attached the fabric for the arms and tomorrow I'll probably tackle attaching the rest.

Whoa it's looking great so far!!

For the wig, did you see this one? (I'm a bit lazy right now to read /all/ of your posts properly!)

http://shop.cosplay.com/wigs/cosworx/scruffy-l.html

And then use blonde wefts in the front, it would look almost exact!!

The CI patches actually look pretty decent. Not exact, but still pretty good!

I honestly can't wait to see the entire thing!!

And thanks for the complement! I'm happy to see that I'm not just talking to myself so much now.

lol :) Well, I'm working on her other cosplay, the one with the cargoes an tank top, so I'm looks for the same guns and wigs and stuff! So anything to help! :)

It seems that I've either lost or thrown out the cargo pants I was going to use, which sucks because they were almost perfect, I just needed to add the camo colour to it! But I'm planning a trip to some thrift stores and Value Village with a friend soon so maybe I'll be able to find another pair for cheap?

As for her guns, like the Magsecs, the ref pic I have also has her with... I can't exactly remember but to me it looks like a rifle (I could be totally wrong, I'm not a guns expert!) and a few others strapped to her back. Any suggestions as to how I could strap them all to my back?

soren7550
09-23-2010, 05:32 PM
I know EXACTLY what picture you're talking about:
http://i335.photobucket.com/albums/m478/soren7550/Perfect%20Dark%20Album/perfect-dark-zero-1-1.jpg
She's holding a UGL Liberator (based on the IMI Uzi) and has on her back a Fairchild DW-P5 (based on the Heckler & Koch MP5) and a KSI-74 (obviously based off of the AK-47). The way that the pic shows how she has then on her back can only happen with the magic of video games I'm fairly sure, but you can use thin straps on them to hold them on you. (will ask my brother next time I see him about any other options)

Was going to get the wig & wefts today as a part of my graduation present from my older brother but it seems that they only accept Pay-Pal & the wefts I want are out of stock. So I'll bother my oldest brother should he get back to get me the wig (being the avid eBay-er he is, he has Pay-Pal).

Also found a pistol holster that should work good for the cosplay (I know she just has the leg straps to hold her pistols in place, but I'm going to need something a bit more reliable than that).

Got my oldest bro to order the wig for me last night, and I got a majority of the silver piping attached to the jacket and holy mother of god it really makes it look sexy.:toothy:
http://i335.photobucket.com/albums/m478/soren7550/Cosplay%20Album/100_1662.jpg
http://i335.photobucket.com/albums/m478/soren7550/Cosplay%20Album/100_1665.jpg

I even used some of the piping to make fake zippers since Jo's jacket closes w/ a zipper while mine closes w/ buttons (which I covered up w/ a flap of fabric so that I can button it up should I so desire):
http://i335.photobucket.com/albums/m478/soren7550/Cosplay%20Album/100_1664.jpg

And I solved the problem of cutting the fabric in the right area by the arms w/ a bag of pollyfil and my pj's shoved in the sleeve (crude, but effective since my younger brother wouldn't wear it for five seconds):
http://i335.photobucket.com/albums/m478/soren7550/Cosplay%20Album/100_1659.jpg

You can see in a few of these pics that I kind of screwed up w/ attaching the fabric onto the sleeves, but I think I'll be able to cover that up enough w/ the piping so that it isn't that noticeable.

soren7550
09-26-2010, 02:18 PM
Got most of the piping attached to the jacket. All that's left really is the piping that goes underneath the patches. But I want to make sure the patches are straight before I sew them & the piping on.
http://i335.photobucket.com/albums/m478/soren7550/Cosplay%20Album/100_1671.jpg
It looks like I'll need to straighten out the one on the right.

soren7550
09-27-2010, 05:20 PM
Sweetness, I got the wig!
http://i335.photobucket.com/albums/m478/soren7550/Cosplay%20Album/100_1682.jpg
http://i335.photobucket.com/albums/m478/soren7550/Cosplay%20Album/100_1678.jpg

I still need to get the wefts (also need to figure out how to attach them to the wig), sew the patches on, attach the remainder of the piping to the jacket, attach the piping to the top (which I started today. It's difficult to do since I was wearing it while I was sewing the piping on to make sure that it would umm, end up the right way for lack of better words), spray paint the earpiece & pistol and attach the piping to the pants (both the front and the back).

soren7550
09-29-2010, 09:25 PM
The jacket be done! I've recently finished sewing on the patches & the last of the piping.

The wig is apparently so good, many of the people whom I've shown a picture of me in the wig think that I've actually done that to my hair.

soren7550
10-01-2010, 11:00 PM
I'm no further w/ the top or pants, but I did get some silver spray paint today and I will paint the gun (which I've found out the accessory rail won't stay in a flipped position) and earpiece once the weather dries up.

Also, I went to a beauty supply store by me today and I found these:
http://i335.photobucket.com/albums/m478/soren7550/Cosplay%20Album/100_1702.jpg

Now, they were made to put into your real hair, but I'm not sure if they can work on a wig as well. I'm planing on getting these (should they work on a wig) since they're cheaper than the wefts I planed on getting and because the store I went to has them currently in stock.

soren7550
10-09-2010, 08:46 PM
Finished the top yesterday, and I got most of the painting done w/ the pistol a few days before. I should be starting on the pants soon.

Oh, and I got myself a pistol belt a week or two ago.

soren7550
10-21-2010, 06:39 PM
Nearly done now. Since Fable 3 is coming out in a few days, I'm going to be pushing to finish the rest this weekend.

But the work that does have to be done is just detail work I guess.

soren7550
10-23-2010, 09:57 PM
The pistol is done (see here: http://www.cosplay.com/photo/2748284/ ), the pants are mostly done (I'm debating on whether or not to put the piping on the back), the pistol holster has been altered, and I just need to add the inside pocket & numbers 114-10 on the jacket.

Also, I may be able to get a hair stylist to help me attach the blond streaks to my wig, and allegedly she can make it so that you can't tell it's a clip.

Costume is done, parade was awesome (despite my older brother bitching the entire time and it being 30 degrees out), and I got so much positive response for my costume, even though only one person seemed to know who I was.
