I was wondering, I've been trying to find boots I could for Miku's cosplay but I can't find much that's not super expensive. I did go on ebay and found some great Miku boots made by hunny_lee but they were way too expensive and I'm not going to pay that much for a pair of boots I can buy a tad cheaper and then paint.

If I couldn't find any decently priced boots would it look okay if I just bought some black shoes and wore thigh high stockings or would they look goofy? I know that some people have done this, but I just wanted some advice so my cosplay didn't look weird.

I'm also going to put an ad in the marketplace but I don't want to spend 100 dollars on boots I'm only going to wear a handful of times. If I had a better job I probably wouldn't mind so much but I don't.

A lot of poeple have used the stockings, IMO I think they look better than the boots ^^; but that's just me~

Stockings are also a cheap alternitive, as you said, the boots are very expensive, but you have to be careful with the stockings too because sometimes if the shoes don't match up very well with them that's what's frowned upon ): .

You know what I did for my Arietta from Tales of the Abyss cosplay? o3o I used a pair of shoes, just flats and wore stockings over them. o_o Then I did the designs and edits on them. Problem with boots is that they don't have that skintight look I wanted. Like Miku. xP And when I found skintight boots, they were freaking 5 inch heels and over $200! D: Ugh. I had to be careful about the stockings I got though. I went through atleast 4 before I found a pair that showed up pitch black, and when I bended, my skin didn't show. Or they didn't hug around my flats, and showed through... One of my friends bought flats, and cut off the walls of the shoes and only used the bottom part of the foot so that it wouldn't show through the stockings because hers was pretty thin. XD....

You could try what I did with my boots for Rider (which was actually inspired by a friend of mine's boots for her Miku cosplay). I just took a pair of thigh high tights, and a pair of flat shoes and modified as needed.

This is basically the end result for my boots -> http://www.cosplay.com/photo/2619030/ (of course, I needed to add armour and purple strips across the top)

It's a cheap but effective way to make such boots. And while wearing my "boots" many people asked where I bought them. Surprised to find they were just tights and flat shoes. For my boots I have to put the tights on first (carefully because of the craft foam armour) and then the shoes.

Hm, may try that. I was going to go look at stockings and shoes when I go to wally world.

for my boots I put the shoes inside some thigh high socks, to make it look more like a complete boot. I made a new sole for the shoe on the outside with teal duct-tape (which I was obsessive enough to paint a lighter teal because I felt like it didn't match enough, although it was a bit peely. (They look like this (http://www.cosplay.com/photo/2512464/big/))

I learned the trick from another Miku cosplayer who achieved an opaque look with a double layer of regular thigh high stockings, rather than thick socks.

What kind of shoes should I use? I been looking when I'm at Wal Mart or Target for a cheap pair of shoes to use for this since basically all's I'll need for my Miku cosplay is a head set and boots. The cosplay set I'm ordering comes with every thing else.

I might see what Target has because I work there so I get a discount. lol Thought I don't know if they have any thing as cheap as Wal-Mart. Some one told me they used crocs, but I dunno if that would make the stockings look weird because of the holes in them.

I bought knee high boots and vinyl leggings, both of which I cut and sewed together. I glued on turquoise vinyl to the bottom of the shoe and sewed on turquoise vinyl to the top.

I was thinking of doing that, but I looked at thigh highs instead. Which are expensive. But sucks cause I had to drop this cosplay for this year so I probably won't be doing it until next year. T_T

Thigh high boots aren't skin tight enough for Miku imo. :O bu that's justme.

All you'd need is flats like the others mentioned, stockings and a hot glue gun.
Just cut a small hole in the stocking and turn the rough edge up and hot glue it along the edge where the shoes meets the rubber sole and paint accordingly.

That's what I planned on doing because I asked another Miku cosplayer how they made their boots.
