View Full Version : Do you think this jacket could be altered to a Mello vest?

Alright, so my mother has kindly agreed to help me with my Mello cosplay.

...the only problem is, she doesn't quite understand my need for detail. She thinks a black vest is fine. She doesn't quite understand my need for his specific collar-type, quilted pattern, etc.

But, I found this jacket which I think will cause both of us a lot less stress and will give me a vest I'm satisfied with, that has more detail than what she is thinking.

The problem is, it has pockets, and the collar has an odd pattern. I'm sure my mother will know how to remove the sleeves, but the other things I'm not sure what to do...

So, can you help me figure out a way to fix up the pockets and collar?

That jacket isn't leather or faux leather, so unfortunately, it won't work. You don't want to attempt to make Mello's outfit out of that kind of material. Can you go to a fabric store and get some good-quality faux leather? You'd be much better off making your own vest with that. :)

Remember, Mello doesn't always wear a vest with a quilted pattern, so you might not have to worry about that detail. Could you post a picture of the variant of his outfit that you're going for?

I'm going for this one http://img2.ak.crunchyroll.com/i/spire4/f2751cc4223d74cf6c9d18fd511d8d9d1224030024_full.jp g and I really want the quilted pattern.

In that case, there is faux leather with a diamond quilted pattern available. :) It's a little harder to find than non-patterned, but it's out there. Maybe try looking through the websites of some fabric stores?

You're welcome! Let me know if you find the quilted faux leather, I'll probably be working on a Mello cosplay some time in the next few months.
If you can't find any quilted faux leather, you could look into how to make the pattern yourself. I've never done it, but I'm sure there's someone here who could help.

Although Juliapop's idea would probably work the best, before you go out and buy fabric i'd say try and go for it P: If the jacket wont be missed if its screwed up, then try. Just cut off the sleeves and sew up where the holes are.
I'd also suggest cutting off the collar and sewing up the pockets so they don't look obvious.
Definitely go with Juliapops Idea if you have the time, money, and experience though.

You could totally make a mello vest from that jacket. Haha. But the only thing I'd worry about is the waist band going across. How do you plan to deal with it?

you can literally remove the collar.if you look on the inside of the neck it should jut be sewn in cut the threads and the collar should fall right off same with the sleeves
