View Full Version : Liquid Latex Ears?

being in theatre, I've worked with a lot of special effects stage make-up, and one of my favorites to work with is liquid latex. I was wondering if anyone ever used liquid latex to make elf ears before (preferably ones that are reusable too, and just reattach them with spirit gum!) I thought I'd ask about it before actually trying it out. I know it'd take a lot of time to keep building up layers, so I want to be sure it's worth it. :)
Thank you!

I've never tried, but in theory it should work fine! (just a hell of a lot of time involved)
You could probably build off of existing prosthetic ears. (I know a lot of Zelda cosplayers don't think they are accurate, but I think it would be cool to mix medias.)

I know I'm late posting it up, but go there for ears, instead of making several ruined pairs on your own! I have a pair en route to my house as we speak - these guys know what they're doing. :3

Yeah, found that out the hard way. :P I'll give it a go!

Yeah - the staff that works for them is super helpful/friendly. I made an error when I ordered mone (=wrong colour), and I emailed them right away, and they fixed iit for me, no problem! It was wonderful. Haven't been home yet to see if they're there, though, haha. I'm so impatient... >_>

I made custom ears for my brother's Link costume and my Zelda costume. I first tried following a tutorial for Hobbit ears using gelatin but that ended in disaster, twice. I then tried painting latex on clay ear molds, this worked out fine, except that the paint brush will gunk up very quickly and it was difficult to pain even layers with a gunky brush. My latest idea, one which I feel worked the best, was dipping the ear molds into the latex and letting them dry. The end result left the ears looking nice and smooth and left me very satisfied. :) I made the layers pretty thick, so they are reusable this way too. :)

I'm actually in the works of Zelda (OoT) right now, and was SO picky about ears. I have been stressing about them. Hahah~
The ones on aradani were a bit big and 'droopy' for my liking, I personally would like those ears on Link rather than Zelda, and then some were just too small. Though, they look it in the photos.

So I ran across this site here:

They are Neraluna's ears and I'm glad I found a US retailer. ^^

They are getting in a new shipment next friday, but I plan to buy from them. (The extra long ones) It says they are made of natural latex. (They already come painted and with 1/4 oz. of spirit gum.)

Wow! Gotta say - thanks for posting this website! I've been thinking about someday pulling off a Link cosplay, and with a college student's withering bank account, these make my idea for Link come closer to being affordable. C: Many, many thanks!

This is off-topic but I wanna thank you for that link... They have a perfect pair of ears for some Zelda cosplays. Thank you so much!
