View Full Version : Babylon 5

I'm seeking reference materials for some costumes from Babylon 5. Most specifically, I'm seeking reference for Delenn, various and sundry Minbari, and the Rangers, though reference for Earthforce and Army of Light uniforms would be most welcome as well.
Anyone got anything?

To break with the Earth, we have launched a difficult and uncertain journey, and none of us can see its end, but our cause is even a little. This truth honors and sanctifies our comrades who made the ultimate sacrifice so that we can do the work before us.

wow.....i thought theres no way there would be a thread regarding B5, but here it is!
i too am working on Delenn, when she has transformed. Her blue underdress and either red or purple tabard over that, and also her action costume - the brown and green velvet dress.
Im also working on trying to find the correct fabrics for the rebel uniforms..a tough job as so many were distinct patterns that may have to be custom printed.
Sadly when B5 was made, it was done in high definition, so quality of screen caps are not the best.
i do have some screencaps of various episodes.pm me and i can send you the links.
I was fortunate enough to have kept some of the magazines from when B5 was first shown, so those have been so handy for references..i also have some 10x8s signed by the guests, as i used to be part of a large fanclub so got to meet practically everyone from the show. ill see if i can scan some of these in.
here is what i have for now...by all means have a look. there is a sub album to the right of the page for delenns blue and red costume - password - sithhappens

Oh this makes me so happy. My Friend and I are just starting our costumes for the London Comic con. We are Doing Delenn and Lennier and then on the next day we are doing Ranger costumes. I found it hard as well to find good images to use. Mostly I just watch and pause an Episode.
Side note After thought. Season 5 Disk 2 Episode Learning Curve has been my fave for Ranger costumes. And I really like the episode.
I loved the images you collected. Did you look at your bank account as well when you saw Headbone they used on the show and think it would be cool too own it. Even if for refrences.
I see your in the Uk, will you also be wearing it at the London Comic con?

Yay for b5!
I can't offer any help, unfortunately. Just wanted to say that the existance of this thread fills me with joy. Also that my friend might be a psi cop for dragon con 2011. Guess who gets to help?

I got to meet Jason Carter ( Marcus Cole) At Dragon con this year. I cried. I was a little shocked really, I think he was drunk. Hes still stunning though. He took my hand told me to close my eyes and told me all about the hot sex we were having 0_0. Very fun guy though. Really loves his fans.

I'd quite like to make a ranger costume, or maybe EA of Army of Light. Not a clue where to start for the ranger one though :(

Anyone working on headbones? It's going to be a fun project but tricky!

Yeah, I'm about to embark upon the headbone odyssey myself, for a competition piece. I haven't entirely figured out how I'm going to go about it, just yet, though I've got some ideas.
If I were going to cosplay Delenn, I'd know exactly how to go about it; it would be some sort of a sculpture sewn into a wig. But I'm doing full Minbari, so no hair to hide attachments in.
The tiny neck-ears are giving me a challenge, too.

We'll have to share tips and such, it's not an easy undertaking but done properly it will be amazing! :) I'm thinking foam right now since they used that on the show, plus it's lighter than latex.
I was wondering about the ears too... Hmmm.

Are you sure they used foam on the show? Head bones always seemed to be more rigid than that, especially in scenes where a Minbari character was laying down. The bedding always seemed to give when the prosthetic didn't.

So, it occurred to me suddenly that I never followed up in this thread. Here's the result.
Took "Best Media Recreation" at Archon back in October.
Head bone ended up being made with a plaster wrap base and paper clay sculpted over the top. My hair (and I have a lot of it, so no whining about how you can't use bald caps) was pinned up to make the plaster wrap base, so it's hidden in a custom-sized pocket built into the bone. The inside of the bone is coated in a layer of liquid latex to keep moisture from damaging the plaster and paper clay. Made the tiny ears myself, too. They're just latex.
This picture doesn't really show it, but the triluminary does light with an LED.
