Hello to everyone. :)

Well, I was watching Star Wars, and decided what I was going to cosplay as for Fanime '11. Queen Amidala, and I definitely need some help. I have absolutely no idea how to start off, her outfit that I wanted to make looks difficult and I'll be making most of it. I don't have any sewing skills, but I do have friends... I was hoping if anyone knew where I could buy a good wig, a basic red dress that I can play with for her outfit, make up, etc.

Here's a reference pic: http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e45/Galadriel_86/009_221-004.jpg

The number one reference for anything Star Wars is the Padawan's Guide. I'm very fond of it.

Here's their page for that red outfit: http://padawansguide.com/red_invasion.shtml

I have gotten wigs from Cosworx and Amphigory and been happy with both sites. For white face paint, use a theatrical makeup like Ben Nye, Kryolan, or Wolfe. I use Ben Nye myself, and have very little problem with it smearing or rubbing off.
It will probably be hard to find a dress with that kind of shape to it already, but it never hurts to shop around. Thrift stores are a great resource for unusual clothes.

^This. It will probably be hard finding an already made dress out of a material of that texture. I'm making an Amidala dress as well but I'll be making it from scratch. Right down to dyeing the fabrics (lordy what have I gotten myself into?)

I'll probably be making it out of scratch with the help of my friends if I don't find the dress. Thanks you two. (:

What is the budget you have set up for this outfit? The best way to do this dress will have to be without the piecing ( meaning the seams that show up through the dress). It also needs wire at the hem to keep that round shape and the fabric has to be thick. Depending on the budget, I may be able to help you with the dress and then you may embellish it to match the design.

Check out Rebel Legion's "Royalty/Senatorial (http://www.rebellegion.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=23&sid=d91b9950fa3155bfa413b274fb4b4ac5)" board. They're a costuming-specific organization, and a damn good one (comparable to and partnered with the 501st Legion). Between Rebel Legion and the Padawan's Guide (http://www.padawansguide.com/red_invasion.shtml), you're dealing with probably the world's most experienced people on how to make that dress.
