What kinds of things do you guys like to listen to when you work out?

For me I definitely find myself listening to fast, peppy remixes of songs - even certain anime songs remixed are absolutely perfect motivators. Anything trance and techno also applies!

So tell me - what songs do you guys listen to? I'm looking to build my playlist.

I'm actually working a few new list up now...

Gladiator mix-

Evanesence - Origins.
DJ Shadow - The outsider
Disturbed - Indestructible
My Ruin - Stick it to me.
Fuel - Bring you down
A Perfect Circle - Judith
Finger Eleven - Stay in Shadow
Sevendust - Denile
Ramnstein - Fueur Frei
Exila - Break me down
Seether - Break me down
Sick Puppies - Your going down.
Otep - Confrontation

11 songs, an intro and exit. Needs a few more looking for that disturbed/ramnstein feel.

Ready Set Go Mix--

Paul Oakenfold - Ready, Set, Go.
Prodigy - Voodoo People (Pendilum mix)
Fort Minor - Remember the name
Dragon Ash - Resound
Blur - Song 2
Placebo - Meds (Paranormal Attack mix)

A few more songs to come

One, hard rock. The other a mix between electronic and up beat/inspirational stuff.

We needed this Thread up a long time ago. Lets lay out some ground rules first:

-No illegal download links. Unless the person who made the song specifically gave permission for the song to be free and provided the download link.

-youtube links are ok

-tell us when you like to listen to them

Thats all the rules I can think of right now.

Vicarious by Tool - this one is an amazing cover in piano. I listen to this when doing my biceps workout. She does a ton of other greats songs you wouldn't expect to sound great on piano but they totally do.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x2KhEW37xJA

Nalepa Monday remix - original song Monday by The Glitch Mob

Great for cardio or plyometrics (jump training)

I like to listen to epic movie music. The kind that get's my heart racing (mostly Pirates of the Caribbean.)

I also like to listen to remixed music or techno in general, but it gets hard when listening to things with lyrics because I want to sing to it and that isn't good for me when combined with working out because I'd lose my breath much more quickly.

anything with a nice fast beat, but I find music like Within Temptation what have you done to be a good workout song for my tastes =)

I like to listen to shounen anime soundtracks, as strange as it seems it really helps. The association of the peices of music with where they were used in the series has me remembering scenes or battles as opposed to thinking "only 18 more minutes on the treadmill, only 17 minutes 59..." as I would with music that doesn't bring such things to mind.

Ok this is sort of cheating. it's an AMV, and an old one at that. This was wayy before youtube, and one of the first ones I ever saw. But looking at it now is sort of a big motivator for me.

for anybody who watched DBZ growing up, Vegeta was a character that was one of your first likable antagonists. Sure he was evil, but it was his unyielding drive to become the very best that made him such a cool character. It didn't matter how powerful the person he was fighting was. He would literally charge at the guy at full force and throw everything he had at him. That's what really shows in this AMV, unyielding determination.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R6clRjpESEc&feature=related

looking at it today, it doesn't hold a candle to other amvs, but for me It has a nostalgia to it.

One of my favourite songs to workout to is Unknown Soldier by Breaking Benjamin. That song makes me want to save the world, I swear. :D

For those who like techno/trance
Waves- DJ Satomi (Any workout time...it's fun!)
Dum dadi do - Nightcore (Cardio time...)
Sound of my Dreams - DJ Melody? (Cardio!)
Castle in the Sky - DJ Satomi (I like to listen to this one when doing reps. It's got a pronounced beat that's not too fast)
Caramelldansen - Caramell (Good for cardio)
Spelar Ingen Roll - Caramell (I like this one for reps...again, the beat isn't too fast)

For the metal people:
Elegy - Leaves' eyes ( Cardio)
Our truth - Lacuna Coil (reps)
I walk alone - Tarja Turunen (walks or treadmill...obviously)
Omnous - Eluviete (sp?) ( This is good for reps and things similar too)

Don't know why I can't think of anything more at this moment, but there's some of the stuff that I normally listen too. I love the combination of metal and techno.

I'm familiar with these bands as well, good picks...Although with Eluveitie...I can appreciate the stellar guitars, but the vocals... don't hit me right for some reason. Just an obseration. Lacuna Coil is in my playlist too, just didn't list em, let's hear it for awesome Italian metal (and Cristina)! And I'd recommend you look up Jorn's cover of Tarja's tune there. Many metal fans (including me) I know like it better. The bass line is just fantastic.

I'm making it a mini quest to listen to most anything that appears on this thread. I am really into music and discovering a new band is such a cool thing to me. (SNSD kinda made me laugh, but was interesting) It would be fun to expand the songs of Asian bands I like, which I have a feeling this is the place to find them.... which now it's pretty much just two prog metal bands, Galneryus and Concerto Moon, and Bi Rain and in his case mainly because his videos are so creative. But I hope to find some new bands in all the genres I listen to.

@GhostieAlice, I can certainly see "Dare" in a workout playlist, but "Melancholy Hill"? It's a good song!...but I would have trouble being able to be motivated by the...melancholy feel of that song;)

!!!Breaking Benjamin is one of my fav bands! See them live, you won't be sorry! And Sandstorm, probably the most recognizable techno song (course I'll say that and someone won't know it lol) And at just over 7 and 1/2 minutes, for the original anyway it gets you through a nice chunk of carido/workout! And with "Don't Stop Believing" it's hard to not sing in the gym lol.

If it's anything like your rough draft version at the beginning of this thread...hit me with it. A majority of those bands are ones I like very much, and know those songs well. I'll say I can't decide if I know Exilia. It sounds familiar, but I'm not sure. That "Can't Break Me Down" track is pretty good. I'm gonna check into them more, a good chick led band is hard to pass up.

Here's a playlist I made a few days ago for my current workout routine. I divided my list into three basic sections so that, if played in order, it (for the most part) works with the general flow of my workout routine. However, it does work pretty well when set to random, too. :P Where applicable, I'll list what movie/game/anime from which the song can be found in parenthesis.

Part 1 (Jogging/Cardio):
--------------------

Microphone Fiend - Rage Against the Machine (warm-up song)
Katayanagi Twins vs. Sex Bob-Omb - Beck (from Scott Pilgrim score)
The Concept of Love - Hideki Naganuma (from Jet Set Radio Future)
North American Scum - LCD Soundsystem
Street Fighting Man - Rage Against the Machine
Easy Action - Boom Boom Satellites
Pearl's Girl (short ver.) - Underworld
Fight! - Nigel Godrich (from Scott Pilgrim score)
E-Pro - Beck
Me Likey the Poom Poom - The Latch Brothers (from Jet Set Radio Future)
We Are Sex Bob-Omb - Beck (from Scott Pilgrim score)
Phat Planet - Leftfield
Dialectic Chaos - Megadeth

Part 2 (mostly for transitioning, and works with both types of workouts)
--------------------

Restless - Evil Nine feat. Toastie Taylor (from London soundtrack)
Power of Big Slacks - Junkie XL
Cowgirl - Underworld
Perfect Exceeder - Mason vs. Princess Superstar (from Wipeout HD)
Madskillz (Mic Chekka) - BT

Part 3 (Strength/resistive)
--------------------

Bombtrack - Rage Against the Machine
Galvanize - The Chemical Brothers
Crush - Frank Klepacki (from C&C: Red Alert)
Testify - Rage Against the Machine
Teachers - Daft Punk
That's Enough - Hideki Naganuma (from Jet Set Radio)
Rumble - Nigel Godrich (from Scott Pilgrim score)
Switch On - Paul Oakenfold
Workmen - Frank Klepacki (from C&C: Red Alert)
Get Down - Groove Armada
We Have Explosive (7" Edit) - The Future Sound of London
Name of the Game - The Crystal Method (cool-down song)

A few select tracks that particularly get me pumped are:

As I Lay Dying - Parallels
As I Lay Dying - 94 Hours

If you don't like heavy metal (especially death metal) I suggest you don't check out the majority of my list lol. If you do like it then rock on \m/ ^_^ \m/

Ye-ah! Bring on the heavy metal! Especially I like ATR, Bullet, Godsmack, and 5FDP! I got "Tears Don't Fall," "Scream Aim Fire," and "Waking the Demon" in mine. "Two Weeks" and songs from Godsmack's Self Titled and Awake find themselves in my list as well.

I like listening to fast paced stuff while I work out, mostly electronica, dubstep, rock, etc

Mostly stuff from artists like MSTRKFT, Daft Punk, Justice, and Muse.

Sometimes I like to throw in some kpop into my routines too, haha. Or I'll even try to learn the dances for certain songs.

I go running a lot, and I beat my goal for a 1.7 mile run this year by over 2 minutes, and it was all cause of the playlist I used. I used "Baba Yetu" from Civilization IV (great song) and then "Untouched" by The Veronicas. I also like "Replay" (by Iyaz or something. I hate pop music) and more recently, "On Melancholy Hill" by the Gorillaz. Good stuff.

Strangely enough, most of the time I work out with .sid music playing. Personal favourites being the Metal Warrior # series by Lasse Öörni.

and random soundtracks from 8tracks.com

or some that I made, or my ''Liked mixes'':

sometimes I feel like listening to some of the mixes my good ol pal makes when I feel in a trance/club mood (tho it's more awesome to blast it in his car; and go party dancing in the traffic.. weird I know but HEY! TRAFFIC JAM? PARTY JAM!!1 *dances in car*):

which are all kinda random too.. good times!

If I feel REALLY like getting pumped on crazy technodance I go for Dimrain47

Well, writing about all this put me in the mood.

I'm gonna go work out RIGHT NOWW.
