I have no idea how to create Kerrigan's hair. It looks as if it's bone, and I was thinking bamboo, but that might be a hard material to play with, so any suggestions?

Any suggestions would be lovely.

It's actually supposed to look very bug-like, since she's infected Zerg. Anything more solid than foam or latex is going to be nearly impossible to work with.

I would recommend using wire and foam to make the underlying structures of the hair, and then going over it with latex. Lots, and lots, and lots of latex. Or resin, but resin won't be nearly as flexible.

After that, it's all about the spraypaint!

This is a costume I want to do at some point as well, and that's just how I'd do it.

This is a good idea until you get into LOTS AND LOTS of latex - it will get heavy if you use an extreme amount. So be careful.

Use thin coats and take your time. Keep in mind that you have to carry this around on your head - supporting it with your neck and back. You don't want much more strain than the weight of a what a wig would be or you could risk injuring yourself or being in pain for most of the convention.

You could get really LONG thing wooden beads and paint them. I dunno.

Grr, had a decent sized post written out and was the victim of more blackberry fail.

But yes. Using wire and foam coated in latex will probably give you the most customizable materials and potential for the most accurate result (outside of sculpting and molding). As Etrina said, too much latex has the potential to get heavy very quick. So just be careful with how much you use.

Another option is looking into cyber dreadfall wigs. They're pretty close in appearance if you shop around, and you could even use some latex on those to help achieve a zerg-ish look.

I like this idea better :p
It will probably end up lighter, the foam may absorb a lot of the first few coats of latex.

For less strain and quick output, you may want to use a black dreaded wig or extensions and then just "cover the top layer with the odds and ends your using to get her bug like tendrils, it will weigh less cut your time and look semi decent atleast to get the effect , and you would only have to make 1 "layer" of the original looking items. not like you would be doing hair flips so people wouldn't really see the underside, thats just how I would look going into such an extravagant costume.

Just something to keep in mind - though I don't know how much it will help:

Infested Kerrigan's hair is not really hair at all. It's... I guess you can say tentacles. To be more precise, they're possibly psychic tentacles (the very same ones that Protoss still connected to the Khala have, actually).

They look kinda like insect legs to me.
