Well I tried quite a few to get me a boost to help with motivation to get me to the gym when I'm feeling really tired or groggy, so here's my experiences with them

This isn't for everyone, but if your a person who can chug red bull all day, these are a good alternative to energy drinks with no crash. Hell of a lot cheaper. I find the energy is smooth and lasts for good 8 hours or so, so don't take this unless your planning on staying awake for a few hours at the very least.

These pre-workouts give you energy using non-essential amino acids and energy boosters simliar to those found in fat burners, but without appitite surpressants, or enough to make you feel jittery. I can be tired as hell and 15 minutes I'm out the door to the gym :)

Superpump250 - 7/10 energy - 9/10 pump - 8/10 taste
White Flood - 9/10 energy - 7/10 pump 7/10 taste
Jack3d - 8/10 energy - 7/10 pump - 7/10 taste
Black Powder - 7/10 energy - 7/10 pump - 10/10 taste
Muscle Marinade - 9/10 energy - 9/10 pump - 8/10 taste
1.M.R - 8/10 energy - 8/10 pump - 5/10 taste
NO explode - 7/10 energy - 6/10 pump - 3/10 taste
ON Vassive - 7/10 energy - 8/10 pump - 8/10 taste
PMD pump fuel - 8/10 energy - 8/10 pump - 8/10 taste


So my vote so far has to go to Muscle Marinade, taste is good enough where I can look foward to drinking it instead of dreading it, not like Black Powder in taste though, where Black powder I fear I could drink too much cause it tastes better than kool aid imo.

I tend to lean towards jack3d, white flood, and muscle marinade cause of beta alanine. It's a non essential amino acid which has been proven to help increase health of the heart. It also creates a nice tingling side effect which I love. Feels like electricity surging through my body.

Although Muscle Marinade is a great pre-workout, it is the more expensive of my favorite trio of beta alanine infused pre-workout. It's also not going to be for everyone cause it does have 6g of creatine per serving (which 5 is usually a daily dose) So if your looking for a good pre-workout and creatine. This is a great one to get. Although I tend to get bloated from Creatine mono-hydrate so just careful a bit. I don't have bloating issues from Creatine Malate or Ethyl ester.

Even though it is expensive if you factor in that you won't need to get another creatine supplement, and with this 1 serving is just that. 1 serving! where Jack3d and white flood you can easily double up on the dose. I would never recommend doubling up on Muscle Marinade.

Since my bloating issues of mono-hydrate I'd have to make my favorite white flood, and jack3d still. White flood is a little cheaper serving per serving, even though the initial cost is a little higher. The taste is tolerable, but perfectly fine if you mix with lemonade. You can also use the extra carbs pre-workout anyways ;)

I was thinking about posting this myself.

One thing I want to comment on is taste, and everyone is going to pretty much react differently. Also, the flavors that you buy can make a huge impact - I mean huge. I tried Superpump well over a year ago and could barely down a glass of the stuff, for all I heard about the product being great I couldn't stomach the stuff. Then I got a free month supply a little bit ago, different flavor, and it was free - I'm not going to complain about that! When I tried it, it was great!

Same product, different flavor = radically different opinion.

My top 3 pre-workouts that I've used.... No-Explode (I was a lil bit of a BSN whore), Superpump, and Jack3d. Of the three, I'd likely only recommend Jack3d at this point. Superpump IMO doesn't rival the energy or pump of Jack3d and No-Explode has been failing even in comparison to Superpump recently.

Muscle Marinade and White Flood are the only two mentioned pre-workouts I haven't heard of before, others I knew to be trash to start with, next round of pre-workout I think imma hit that Marinade stuff and see how that goes.

I've found a simple L-Carnitine supplement in liquid form (The Vitamin Shoppe sells a tasty one) about 20 minutes before has had a pretty noticeable impact for me in terms of overall energy level (and weight loss a little).

Used to use No-Xplode after workouts at the advice of a trainer I was seeing, but never really noticed a difference. Is it commonly taken before?

any supplement plan you intend on taking should be approved by your doctor, you dont want to start growing boobs (if your a guy) or screw up your hormone level.

it's a pre-workout so yes your supposed to be taking it before the workout.

Honestly I really don't get much from No-xplode, they have a great marketing campaign, but never seen anyone take it, try something else and ever gone back to it.

No xplode has ridiculously large dose of caffeine 200mg per serving, which is a entire cup of coffee, often you have to double up on the serving 400mg to effect you since people build a tolerance quickly to No-xplode. It even says on the bottle to cycle off.

I don't like no xplode cause the bottle looks like candy, and having raised a little girl with my ex gf for a few years if I had that laying around I'm sure she'd think it's a bottle of candy.

Also people should be taking No-xplode cause of nitric oxide supplement which is a vaso diolator (opens up your blood vessels) and caffeine is a vaso constrictor (closes up your blood vessels) although caffeine is usually in all pre-workouts because it works in synergy to other energy supplements, no-xplodes relies too heavily on it for me to feel a really good pump.

the pump is referred to when you do a lot of workout say your biceps, it gets big and swell up right after you do a lot of weights and really push yourself for maybe 20-30minutes, nitric oxide will help you hold that for much longer. It also helps you provide more oxygen and nutrients to your muscles.

Pre-workouts use ingredients which have been found to be perfectly safe, it's just a combination of essential and non-essential amino acids with energy boosts you'll find in a regular bottle of energy drink.

It also usually contains nitric oxide which is important for bodily functions. Especially in the sexual arousal department. Interesting fact, without enough nitric oxide your body will not create an erection. Period. Viagra is a chemical create to block alpha chemicals that destroys nitric oxide in the body.

The worst you'll find in pre-workouts are often creatine, most pre-workouts contain about 1g of creatine. Which some people say is bad for the liver, but like anything else you shouldn't have to take it everyday, and your supposed to cycle off every once in a while. but with people taking upto 10g of creatine a day and showing no problems it really shouldn't be too much of an issue as well.

anything can kill you, everything is good in moderation even too much water can kill you. There are stories all the time where people die from playing too much games and smoking and too much coffee as well.

Also NEVER EVER LISTEN TO YOUR PERSONAL TRAINER AS A MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL. It's probably ok if they have a background in bodybuilding / fitness competitions cause they will learn A LOT about nutrition in the process. But sad fact is that many gyms like Lifestyles does not require you to have a certification to start taking clients.

Personal training is not a very regulated field as of yet, there are even weekend certification classes for personal training. So make sure your personal trainer has the right qualifications to instruct.

Same.... I feel if I start asking doctors about amino acids it'll be like a episode of Are you smarter than a 5th grader. Cause it's not a question normally asked I'm sure doctors don't even know what the hell the ingredient list contains. It's like when we were in 5th grade we actually knew the name of the biggest moon on Jupiter without having to use google o_O we also knew the names of all the ships that was used by Christopher Columbus o_O

Regardless though if you follow the fitness lifestyle and follow reading material, you should learn the pros and con of each chemical ingredient in a supplement. I make it a habit of using google to research deeper and deeper making sure it's ok. Not saying google is a medical professional replacement but it's a good area to start.

lol never said asking a medical professional was a bad idea, just that personal trainers are NOT medical professional :p regardless people should be doing their own research as well before taking anything, if it includes going to a dietician or a specialist it's great, if not hopefully they're a resourceful bunch =p

We have actually had quite a few supplement topics posted already. I think it could be a good idea if we had posted a topic on a list of types of supplements and what they do (or supposedly do anyway) and give an unbiased view on them. W can then make it a sticky post. Supplements help, but shouldn't be a necessity. The most I use nowadays is protein powder.

Oooh... looking it up, I think I might have been confusing the No-Xplode powders (http://tinyurl.com/2acvbqa) with the Lean Dessert stuff (http://tinyurl.com/2bfsnpu) ... especially since No-Xplode doesn't seem to be in the vanilla shake form I was taking... lol.

I've heard good things about both SuperPump250 and White Flood. I think once my supply of NO-Shotgun is done I'll be switching to White Flood and see how that works for me. On a side note, I take ON Micronized Creatine Powder on my off days to keep my creatine levels. I'm not trying to get into a medical debate, but I've had no issues while taking creatine. Even though I really don't abuse my liver, I also help my liver's health by taking a milk thistle capsule everyday.

If you can stomach it, I'd recommend taking animal pak multi vitamin pack. It's 11 pills a day to swallow but it has a liver complex to help keep you healthy as well. It's about 50 cents a day so it's not too bad, MUCH better price than generic Megaman multi-vitamin packs from gnc. Those run about $1 a piece.

I dunno there are debates about creatine, but like with anything idiots ruin it for the rest. Like this story where creatine was blamed when two teenage kids took creatine and died in the sauna for 4-5 hours to be found dead. Creatine was blamed, but I'm sorry your supposed to be drinking WATER, not dehydrating yourself in the Sauna afterwards. People are just amazingly stupid when it comes to supplements. few of my gym buddies are morons and post pictures of pre-workouts and protein and people start talkin shit like it's anabolic steroids. Ignorance is bliss -_-; regardless before taking anything people should put in some time and some research to find if it's right for you, but i just hate when people don't look or assume.

yeah I was thinking about start taking Animal Pak and possibly Animal Stak. For now I take a Once-A-Day Mens multi-vitamin with my milk thistle and omega 3 pill.

I hate how people don't do the research on things before they start using them just because they hear something good about them. Just because something may make you beast mode doesn't mean it's actually good for you. Every time I want to start taking something or even switch up my workout I do research on it just to see the advantages and disadvantages of doing so. I make sure I stay plenty hydrated while taking creatine as well. Like you know, no supplement will give you a great looking body without the proper training and rest.

pretty much most all pre-workouts will have some creatine, but jack3d and white flood has little to none, probably like 1gram so nothing too much to worry about, it helps with a nice pump you get.
