View Full Version : Pikachu??

So I'm making my Pikachu cosplay for K-Con... Which is tomorrow.... I know, I'm a slacker. But, I have everything I need, I just need to put it together....
Anyone have any suggestions or tutorials for how to make a tail for Pikachi that I can attach to my outfit? And also, I need to make a hat with Pikachu ears... So any suggestions would be great... Thanks.
depends what your general outfit looks like, actually P: and if you want the tail to stand or not. attaching a tail to a dress would be different to attaching to a blouse/skirt outfit (or similar). it would also depend what kind of material you're using to make the tail-- fur fabric, for instance, is heavier than cotton or fleece. are you stuffing it or making a cardboard or wire skeleton for it?
if you want it to stand, you could rig a partial belt + tail skeleton contraption out of wire to keep it upright-- that's what i'm doing for my tail. (i can't actually coherently explain it in words unfortunately, i'd have to show it physically for it to make any sense.) if it's too heavy to stand on its own like that, i'm going to string it to my collar.
good luck with your tail, and hope this helped. O:

Well, I have a dress that I bought, and I have light, kinda fuzzy fabric for that stuff. Not really fuzzy, more like soft... Anyway, I don't know if it will look better standing or hanging... Hanging might look better... And standing might be difficult with a dress...
I have stuffing to stuff the tail and ears, and I have Bail Wire I believe, I'm pretty sure that's what it's called. My mom's friend told me that would help it keep it's shape. I do have cardboard as well if that would work better.
i personally prefer wire to keep the shape, especially since you have stuffing for it-- it'd be lighter than using cardboard and stuffing around the cardboard.
hanging vs. standing, that's up to you. i'm helping my pikachu 'twin' make her props; she too is wearing a dress and we're going to have her tail stand to match mine c: hanging is definitely the easier option. however, if you opt for standing i'd advise you to get some sort of collar-- a ribbon, choker or something that you don't mind possibly getting ruined and string your tail to that. i once helped a friend do this, but we strung her tail to the back of her shirt instead. it pulled her shirt back with the weight of her pikachu tail and looked strange.
either way whether you'll be having it (standing or hanging) you'd need some sort of belt to cover up where you'll be sewing it to your dress. a wide cloth 'ribbon' type of belt would be fine, depending on the style of your dress.
just stitch it to the back of the waist of the dress, cover it up with the belt and voila~
