View Full Version : TGS2010 Photos?

Hi all, I took some photos at TGS2010 over the weekend, and was wondering if there's somewhere here to share photos from specific events so that the cosplayers can find their pics.

There's also something about receiving permission before posting cosplayer photos in public, is that the norm in Japan?

If there is a rule about that its news to me because I put all my TGS photos on my public photobucket, flickr and website. It would be cool if we could share photos here too though.

Yeah it was the first time I saw that rule when I was checking the TGS website:
http://expo.nikkeibp.co.jp/tgs/2010/en/visitor/attention.html

"If you wish to post the image on a personal website, be sure to obtain approvals from the relevant individuals."

In Singapore, there are some forums where photographers would post pictures of the cosplayers after an event, and the cosplayers would "camp" in the threads that they like to wait for their photos to appear.

Well I will be first to break the ice then, here is a link to my photobucket. If anyone sees any photos they like and want feel free to DL it. http://s1010.photobucket.com/albums/af225/celestialshadow19/Tokyo%20Game%20Show%202010/ (http://s1010.photobucket.com/albums/af225/celestialshadow19/Tokyo%20Game%20Show%202010/)

Cool! I've some photos uploaded, but they had been resized. Almost all were close up shots as I only brought 1 lens, didn't get you and your husband together in the same pic though.

Etiquette in Japan generally holds that you ought to have permission to take and post images featuring other cosplayers online... both to help cosplayers control their own images online (many cosplay in secret and would risk consequences at work or home if discovered) and as a deterrant to perverts and blackmail attempts. As a result, some large events now "require" photographers to ask permission to photograph and then share images online.

That's where business cards come in. Usually photographers will approach a cosplayer when they take the image, ask for permission to post it online and give them a card with the site on which their image will appear. The photographer will usually get permission and a card in return. Very few people show up to an event ~not~ wanting to be photographed... but some do (or want their pictures password protected/hidden from the general public on a site like CURE).

Legally, there's probably no way they can force you to do obtain permission or any sort... but it's a more pleasant experience for all when you play nice. It's easy to accidentally alienate Japanese cosplayers by posting their images without consent -- but that said ~ quite a few large events have a good deal of obvious public fallout with international press, invited photographers, etc.

If you're at a cosplay "event" or the rule says you should ask -- best to ask. Though if you aren't worried about networking with the cosplayers in question or the community in Japan, you probably have nothing to gain by worrying about manners either way...

If you're at a general event and the rules say nothing -- don't worry. People probably expect their pictures to pop up all over the place anyway.

I ask other "cosplayers" before posting their images on public sites.
But if I go to a club night or a parade or something very casual... I post photos as though they were any other photo and I regularly upload all of my images to personal albums that are friends/family only.

Thanks for the clarifications! Usually shared with friends too and was hesitant to post initially when I didn't see any here, though many photos had already popped up all over the net.

btw, your trio sure looked like you had lots of fun!

Yeah, we did :)

I think just about everyone here is cool with photos being shared (since we aren't Japanese)... though for what it's worth. If you have any of the three of us: go nuts.

I was roaming around doing more closeups, but managed to take a quick one from a distance whenever I saw the 3 of you with a new pose. :P

Here's 2 anyway!

I don't have many photos of cosplayers from TGS, since my boyfriend had my camera then and didn't get many photos (he got one of adella, airman, and the SF4 group) but I do have photos that I took inside the venue at my flickr:

Wow! That's a hell of a zoom :)

I think I have between 3-15 of just about everyone who regularly posts here though I won't be able to get them up and edited for another week or so.

I didn't get any of Michi, the guests, or the Taiwanese cosplayers :( I just never ran into them in the costume area when my camera was out. If anyone got some of the Gyakuten Saiban girls, Yuffie or either of the Tifas ~ I'd love to see them and snag them for my own memory-set :) Would also be nice to have good, clear pictures of the cute bespectacled Gunner-Yuna who was helping us all out.

No problem with using the photo. :)

That was the first shot I took before stepping into the cosplay area. Didn't boost my confidence of going home with any decent shots as I really hated squeezing with people.. lol

I finally uploaded my shots to my Cosplay.com gallery:

http://www.cosplay.com/gallery/193835/

They've been on ACP since I got back from TGS, but I was too lazy to resize them and put them on C.com until now. T_T

I haven't actually gotten my copy yet. I can pick up copies for anyone else who needs them, too. Just run the cover price through today's exchange and add $13 for the shipping fee for Express. $8 for SAL. $4 for surface.

Oh awesome!! I was just coming into this thread to check if anyone saw us in Cosmode yet, so thank you! :) If it's the latest issue I'll just pick it up when I'm at San Francisco's Japantown this Saturday. What's on the cover so I know?
