Screenshot of Sammy's ball from the 4th movie: http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/File:Sammy%27s_Old_Pok%C3%A9_Ball.png

I want to make something similar to this for my Steampunk costume. I bought a red handwheel instead of the weird looking knob in the screenshot just because I think it's cooler. Besides that, I have nothing. I've been to Lowe's, Home Depot, Hobby Lobby, Michael's, and the internet. I can't find a "metal ball/sphere/orb" besides contact juggling balls which are $60 and the $25 min order from https://www.shopwagner.com/nxc/nxcli.nsf . All I need is a metal ball, hollow or solid, that is around $10 or less and is 4"-6" in diameter.

I must be able to drill into the ball without fear of it shattering.

I'm not going to use a styrofoam ball, or an acrylic shatter-loving ball, or cloth, or glass, or anything but a METAL ball. Brass, steel, chrome, I don't care. I just can't find one. A solid plastic one might work but I am not really sure.

Have you looked into aluminum or brass christmas ornaments? I'm sure they must exist somewhere....

There we go, finally found the link. These are steel, I would think they come in other metals as well.

Those would be amazing to use, if only they were the right size. The description says "Diameter: 1.7" and that won't work.

You'd think they'd have brass ornaments, and they do. They just aren't spheres. They're all shaped things. I also have a feeling finding a brass orb ornament, if one exists, would be less than four to six inches in diameter.

I would say use plastic ball ornaments. I know you can find round ones of those at craft stores (a friend of mine just used a ton of them she got from Hobby Lobby to make a Lady Gaga bubble dress). You'll have to paint them up and add the extra bits on the outside, but they should work perfectly and they come in about the right size.

You might have trouble finding them though. She couldn't find them for a long time but then the craft store finally had them in stock (they might have had to special order them for her).

The ornaments also open in half (I think they are intended for people to put things inside of them to make their own ornament decorations). So if you didn't want to glue them sealed you could still make them openable.
