View Full Version : What equipment do you really need?

Fitness thanks to the wonders of capitalism, has become a BILLION dollar industry. Why? Because it is such a profitable industry that can use a lot of the same old scams to present new ideas. A lot of these consists of "state of the art equipment" that you "NEED" to get fit. but do you honestly Need what people advertise? ABSOLUTELY NOT!!! Ninety-nine out of One hundred times you don't. So what under a budget of nothing do you have to have to get in shape? I can safely say these four things are all you need to get in shape:

-Appropriate Clothing:

Yes this seems like something redundant, But I really should explain this. wearing something comfortable and specifically for exercise is a must. You need to be able to move around comfortably, and have seperate workout clothes for the sake of your hygiene. Its a lot easier on your back doing ab exercises if you are wearing waistband shorts/pants instead of jeans. Appropriate shoes as well. Your will not have to worry about ruining your clothes, and you will be more comfortable. Which leads me to my second essential need.

-A Soft Surface:
Some exercises (not all) will feel a lot more comfortable if you are working on a soft surface. This may mean getting a mat. It does not have to be fancy, just comfortable, and capable of gripping so you do not slip. If you have to pay for anything, it might be this.

-A Resourceful Mind:
Every exercise essential to getting fit can be done with body weight exercises alone. The key is knowing what exercises work which part of the body. the two that get most people is how they can do pull ups. for that I normally tell them to get a pullup bar like this one here (http://www.walmart.com/ip/Gold-s-Gym-Door-Gym-with-DVD/12177351). But there are a few workarounds you can attempt. such as this:

A lot of great exercises come from utilizing what you already have. It all depends on how resourceful you are or can become. Take a look at the ghetto workout videos on youtube. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kDCxH88-9X8&fmt=34. People in these videos are incredibly creative and show all sorts of body weight exercises you can attempt.

-Willpower & Nutrition You will not get anywhere without these two things. Willpower motivates you, and nutrition fuels you to keep going. Thats all i need to say right there.

Now as far as other equipment is concerned such as weights, these can be used but remember I am referring to absolute needs. Weights WILL make you stronger, but they are more of a luxury item. I use weights because well, I have them XD, and so should you if you have weights.

As for gimmicky gadgets, DISREGUARD THEM :angry: These will rob you with empty promises and false studies from nonexistent research institutes. I'm taking about the shakeweight people. Remember, it will never work if it says it makes the job easier or more comfortable. EVER. You cannot trade nothing for something.

Pretty good. and I really agree with the last point.

If something makes fatloss/getting fit "Fun" or promises you that you can do it in 4-5 weeks, Its a lie.. Getting fit is hard(ish) and takes time.
