So I want to start working on my Cheshire Grell cosplay but after watching the OVA I'm kinda iffy on what to do for his top.

In the concept art (http://i440.photobucket.com/albums/qq124/heavenfirings/Cosplay%20Reference/GrellSutcliffUndertaker.jpg) it's obviously a waistcoat, which is usually what he wears. But if you watch the OVA (http://www.watchanimeon.com/kuroshitsuji-ii-episode-13/) (click part 2, and skip to 4:25) it was apparently changed to a regular vest.

So what I was wondering is which I should do, I kinda prefer the waistcoat it feels more him to me. I just don't want a bunch of people telling me it's wrong, so how much interpretation would be okay?

Also just to add something extra to it would it look okay if I used a brocade instead of regular solid red fabric? Thanks guys.

If you prefer the waistcoat, go for it! It's your cosplay, and you actually have proof that it is something originally designed for Grell anyway (not that that should matter). As for the brocade, go for it! I love seeing textured fabrics used for cosplay, especially Kuroshitsuji characters.
