Well that aside i'm looking for some help with steampunk-ish hairstyles and instructions on how to fix them. Well what kind of steampunk costume are you makeing? The hairstyle of a lowly mechanic would be different from a lady adventurer and that would most likely be different from an airship pirate.

Well that will be most likely something not too complicated like perhaps a large bun with fancy hairpins or perhaps some curled stray locks to frame your face. Or some fancy braiding like this. http://www.dreamweaverbraiding.com/Braiding_Tips.htm After all pirates are busy people.

You really have two options.

Historical and Punk.

I see a pirate as being more towards the punk sepctrum and probably cut short so that it wouldn't get in the way. But if you don't want to cut or wig it, you could throw it up into a sort of edgy updo.

I set my hair in curlers, and the next day (the day of the con) let it out and just pinned it back.
my hair is not quite shoulder length, and quite thick.
