View Full Version : Starcraft Spectre Boots

Good morning, all. I think this is the proper place to post this, since it is an armor question. I am currently working on a Spectre cosplay from Starcraft.

Please see attached reference image: http://starcraft.wikia.com/wiki/File:Spectre_SC2-WoL_Story1.jpg

Unfortunately, I am drawing a great big blank when it comes to making those boots. I can't decide if I should try to build my own, or buy some boots and try to mod them. I suppose method is fairly pointless however, since I have no idea on how to start either way.

I sure could use some boot-flavored assistance from cosplayers more experienced and/or more clever than I. Thank you for your time!

They look less like one piece knee boots and more like ankle boots, a gaiter section and knee pads. Perhaps taking that split down approach would simplify an otherwise potentially complicated project...?

It looks like something you could build in sections. Start with a base boot - plain old workmans type of boot (those yellow ones...) you can color to match. I would the base boot as a piece, the two half round coverlets as a piece, then the rest as a separate shin armor.

I did boots with shin armor - you can look through my Nanael progress gallery. I used wonderflex and bondo.

I built my own, in two pieces in Pepakura / Fiberglass Bondo.
The leg cover pretty much destroyed the boots.

I will not recommend this, find a way to build them together.

If you want some of the Pepakura files i made for cosplay, just ask and hopefully you will do a much better job then me.

Hey Mega, amazing work on your Spectre. You look seriously badass. I am very impressed, well done! Your work on the boots looks pretty much spot on. Sorry to hear yours got destroyed. I'll try to rig mine so that doesn't happen. It's very generous of you to offer the Pepakura files.

Based on these suggestions, I think I'm going to go with a hybrid crafting method. I really like Char's suggestion of using work boots as the base, and so I'm going to get a pair of those, mod and paint them. But if you wouldn't mind sending me the Pepakura file for the shin and knee pieces, I'd be really grateful! I think you're right on the money building them in front and back sections and attaching them together. It'd be really hard to get your foot in and out of the shin armor if it was one piece.

Unfortunately, while I can download Pepakura, I can't print the files as I have no printer. However, just being able to look at the completed pieces in 3d will be a huge help. I'm very handy with cardboard, craft foam, and paper mache and I definitley think I could whip up a good pair of boots. And there is just under 8 months to the con, so I have plenty of time to get it right!

If you would be so kind, please send the Pepakura files to my personal email: fh.multimedia@gmail.com It's the address I use for non junk/game emails so your mail shouldn't get filtered into spam. Thank you very much again for your help!

I made one last year actually. I never fully finished it, had to rush a few parts:

Getting the helmet to swivel was the hard part.
